Left Fuji for Canon. It always felt like I was fighting my Fuji to focus or operate how I wanted, with my Canon autofocus is a set it and forget it type thing and lightning fast, accurate and intuitive.
We need more videos like this! More fuji users have to start talking about this issue. Especially for video my xh2s is basically unusable for autofocusing. We are not getting gear for free. I ve been saving for half a year to buy a piece of gear I was hoping it would be an improvement over my xt3 and this is what we get. Moreover fuji's complete silence on the issue is so unprofessional.... Such a shame really...
exactly the same situation... Cant get myself to sell mx XH2s already, it was my dream camera... But got a used Somy FX30 and you would believe how incredible it feels to be able to trust autofocus...
I went with the Nikon Zf recently and sold my Fuji X and GFX. I didn’t do it for any of the problems you mentioned, but I will say the beauty of Nikon is that if I was shooting professionally I could easily get a Nikon z6 if anything happened to my Zf. No shortage of cameras. Fuji is playing a dangerous game
It's hard to believe my H2S worked fine when been released, but after all the updates, I'm trying to figure out how to focus on my son's eye when he run towards me😂
@@jcar4522 It's kind of strange. I also have a X-H2s with the newest firmware and the AF-C works absolutely fine. Here and there a miss, yes. But nothing which could make the camera unusable for me. I've seen a lot of videos about the messed up AF on Fuji and I understand that this is a no go for a professional. But for personal use I don't really see a problem. Maybe it's just me.
I went bird hunting this weekend with my X-T5 and the 100-400 and of course used the bird subject detection. Of around 300 shots of flying birds I probably have 5 with a bird in focus...It's just gotten terrible.
While I find the predictive AF features amazing sometimes, I find they get in my way. I'm fine with contrast detect with a single point. Sometimes, simplicity is king.
@@LedMirass120 I like them personally. Yes Fuji colors can be nicer out of camera but the FF sensor of the ZF just gives photos that 3D pop that an apsc sensor never will be able to
How is the wireless transfer? I’m someone who doesn’t want to edit as I do that with my pro kit(Sony). Fuji has been very nice for transfers. Not the fastest but the statistics etc it has are great and filters are great.
I agree with you on all points. I really like the XT5, but genuinely feel left out in the cold when it comes to issues that the brand want to blame on users rather than their product.
been a fuji user since the OG x100 came out back in 11. i always thought this AF speed is only going to be temporary, and the next iterations to be at least better. fast forward now, i sold my x100V, and got an A7CII. i gave fuji 13years.
My problems with the autofocus doesn’t even involve auto-tracking. I went to an arboretum the other day to photograph flowers. I had the X-T5 in AF-S mode since I didn’t have a moving subject. The camera would not focus properly within the AF box. What the heck, the latest firmware update now has compromised shooting of still photography. It’s the first time I’ve had a problem with the X-T5 having focusing issues in AF-S mode. These weren’t even “false positives” images. The camera’s autofocus wouldn’t even give me a green box AF confirmation when focusing on a single, subject flower. I noticed that my focusing box was placed directly on the flower while the camera focused on the background space. Recomposing the scene and half pressing the focusing/shutter release button did not help. I was well within the minimum focusing distance. It felt like the camera wasn’t even trying to acquire focus from the green focusing box. Soon after, my camera completely froze with a black out screen. I took out the battery to reset camera. Focusing seemed OK after that. I suspecting bugs in the new update.
I can't agree more with you. I have the same issue with the XS-20. AF. All of over the place both for photography and videography. XT1-4 are bizarrely enough way more reliable with the C-AF limitations
Many years ago, I was a Canon shooter. I didn’t like how slow the improvements were and how many features we wanted were only attainable through Magic Lantern. Then came Fuji who had all the features I wanted at the time but, moreover, the firmware updates they provided for new AND old cameras were game-changing. And, at the time, the autofocus was on-par with dslrs. Now, these issues are a really big deal. They have to know that. I hope it gets better.
I would say Fuji is on the same track as always, the only issue at the moment are the af problems. They fixed the freezes and provided very useful features. But I think the af issue is substantial because, it’s an essential part of a modern camera. It’s very self destroying to fail in this discipline. I trust Fuji that they fix this. Not in November but hoppy in early 2025. If I were a professional I would instantly buy another camera. As an hobbyist I can wait some time.
I honestly don’t know why so many photographers are ok with subpar equipment?! As a Photographer, I want my work flow to be as smooth and easy as it can be! 😅
Don't think their problems with supply are so much about intentionally creating artificial scarcity. The main issue is photography and consumer products are now a relatively small part of their company's business. Most of Fujifilm's income comes from health care and business products and services. So, they probably aren't devoting as many resources to camera making as in the past. Second, their xtrans sensor is unique and they depend on Sony to manufacture them. As a relatively small Sony customer, they perhaps do not get the priority that the larger customers get.
@catlike1 I touched on this very briefly with a comment but you could be right… however the Fuji ceo just admitted to intentional short supply to keep prices high
@@catlike1 choosing not to fulfill demand, or even come close to fulfilling it on time is not a good practice. Every company projects sales and has a model for growth. It’s a conscious choice.
It's obvious they have been doing this for years. I hardly see Fuji's in the wild compared to sonys even after going viral. And they claim they can't make enough? Clear lies.
@@catlike1 it’s intentional, fujis ceo basically said it. Of course he didn’t say the exact words “artificial scarcity”, but something like not over production for the sake of “brand perception” when ask about supply. Sounds like artificial scarcity to me, “illusion of rarity to increase perceived value and demand”.
I sold my X-H2S and all my lenses just before the last firmware update. Bought a Z8 and couldn't be happier. Makes me sad to see what is happening to such a beloved brand.
Agree with all your comments. And it's become worse; in the beginning, it seemed it was "only" (haha) restricted to continuous AF, but recently I have been experiencing problems with single AF as well. I was shooting last week at a skydiving event and my XT5 literally could not gain focus on the divers walking (slowly) to the plane, in bright daylight. I had to turn the camera off and on again to refocus; of course, by that time, the shot was gone. My son (who shoots professionally with an XH2) lost focus while filming a classic car driving past, very slowly and missed an important shot for a client. It's really too bad, because I like pretty much everything else about my XT5: great colors, raw files, and shooting experience (except AF, that is). Why can't Fuji get this right, while ALL the other brands can - even the tiny Olympus brand. The XT5 is pretty much back at XT2 level, which is ludicrous. I'm invested heavily in the Fuji system with a dozen or so lenses, but if Fuji does not solve this within 2024, I'll be switching brands; possibly to Nikon Zf. Disconcertingly, Fuji does not even take the trouble of announcing an update and promising to address this. In the meantime, I've switched off face detection and eye detection, and rely on single point focus with the joystick. This helps a bit, but should not be necessary of course.
I know my XT20 is old, but I know what to expect of the AF depending on the scene and it's fine once you adjust to it. I havent had the chance to try any of the newer cameras, but it's suprising the amount of complains that are coming this last year. Hope they get back to track soon.
Very reasonable take. I'm glad to hear it's not just me. 😎 If I'm brutally honest, I don't think Fujifilm AF has improved since the X-T2, nor the IBIS since the X-H1. They've certainly added a bunch of UI elements with eye recognition boxes and many false positives since, but ultimately I have a hunch they were just relying on faster processors to supply more than a 2% improvement generation over generation. That said: I'm not expecting much from my Fujifilm - it's a toy, so I might be more forgiving. It's like Leica to me, I'm here for the fun, engaged, tactile experience of missing the shot. 😂
@@richardpieprzak285yeah I’ve owned the xt5 and the xt3 , I have 2 Sony a7iv’s which Fuji can’t touch imo . I love my v and I’ll keep it . I really wish they kept the flash in the a6700
This makes me glad I held onto my XT3. I was strongly considering upgrading, but with all the firmware issues and auto focus struggles, I don’t think I can rely on the newer cameras for my business.
Fuji have turned itself into a very cheap entry level cinema camera: nice colors, codecs and practical. No AF neither IBIS for video. But since the promisse is to be a hybrid, AF souldn't get worse and worse. Nice video!
Issues like this are exactly why I switched to Sony. Even though I'm a hobbyist, I need to be confident in reliable autofocus and Sony is just SO much better.
Well put. I've had Fuji since 2015 but with all the AF problems and supply chain issues I've lost faith. Sure maybe they are victim of unexpected success but its absurd that they havn't ramped up production all this time later and there is no X-Pro4! I'm currently FUJI body less with a bunch of lenses taking up space but holding out that they will turn it around later this year.
I've been in the same place for about 3 years now. Still have the lenses. Still waiting. I bought a Canon R8 and Ricoh GRIII last year just to have something to shoot on. 😂
How is it even possible Fuji auto focus is so far behind everyone else? What are they doing with all the profits they keep reaping from us who buy their stuff? Either they have the wrong engineers, or they just don’t really care about all our focusing complaints these past several years - either way, we lose. I think I’m going over to Sony.
I saw this coming several years ago. I stopped buying fuji (after 6 bodies and 9 XF prime lenses) after my X-Trans III cameras. When I saw the X-E4 and X-Pro-3, that was the moment I realized Fuji is losing their way, and sure enough, issue after issue where I thank my lucky stars I quit when I did. But the best thing about it is that all my older Fujis recently went up in price in the used market. I saw my workhorse daily carry the X100T go from [at best] $400 not even a year ago to selling for $1029 in lesser condition than mine.... THAT tells me that people are frustrated with Fuji and their quality quirks on top of availability and are paying top dollar for all the cameras I still have in the X-Trans I, II and III, all Made in Japan. Glad I hung on to them. I may sell them all except for my X-Pro2 even though that is going for more than I paid but it's is imho Fuji's best camera ever made.
I just went into shop nearby and was testing x100vi and xt5. Gosh both camera was terrible in autofocusing simple static things. x100vi was having 1 more issue, it was feeling heated during test pics and I was in ac showrrom.. This is what they are selling
You are so spot on! I love what Fuji was but am done with the "planned scarcity" and movement away from Kaizen. I've decided to purchase the Nikon zf to satisfy my preference for a retro aesthetic and am seriously considering selling all my fuji gear.
Long time fuji shooter here, i haven't experienced what many others have, but because of all the online reviews i have also very much gone back to af-s just to avoid it happening. hope they sort it out soon as I love my fuji's but will not risk my business just to stay loyal. I have even sent my x-pro 2 back in for a full rebuild as for me that is still one of the best fuji has ever made. Fuji UK's customer service is second to none though. which is one of the reasons i have stayed with them. But that being said I don't think I ever needed to use Canon's. I have pretty much sent in every fuji I have owned for something like shutter replacement, sensor replacements or dial issues.
Fuji financially is doing very well, …..I think once they see the customer base starts to dwindle….they will have to do it right….unfortunately the sooner we leave Fuji the sooner they will get to it.
I LOVE the look and feel of Fujifilm cameras and the look of Fujifilm images (I can spot classic chrome anywhere), but I agree that these bad firmware updates, absolutely no attention paid to AF, crazy lack of native lenses with linear motors (not even the re-release of a 56 mm portrait prime??), trying to create artificial scarcity to increase "brand strength", seemingly not acknowledging firmware issues, and increasing prices on everything left and right....What in the world are they doing?? If they could fix the AF and FW issues, they'd have one of the best value props on the market and they could ramp up production and start eating into canikony's market share. Even my friends who shoot Canon and Sony are jealous of my Fuji cameras, but this is getting so frustrating.
If anything the fuji native lenses are part of the problem. After some testing with some street and sports photography over last few weeks and I now find I only use the Viltrox 27mm or 75mm Pro lenses. They hit sharp with almost every shot. That versus the fuji 23 1.4 and the 50mm 1.0 which shoot sharp at about 50% of the time. When they hit sharp they're good but so unreliable versus an aftermarket brand. On another note, I bought a used Nikon D850 that came with a single beat up lens and that shoots sharp focus 95% of the time. I've loaned it out but once I get it back I think I'll keep the fuji xh2 with the two viltrox lenses, sell all the fuji lenses and use the cash to get some more to fit the d850.
@@80nigena - for me, the two PRO lenses are just brilliant. The shots are sharp and detailed. I'm using the fujifilm xh2 and I can crop deep into the pics and get worthwhile pics out of those. It's as if these lenses were designed to actually resolve that 40mp resolution and the AF seems to work better with them (more so on the 75mm than on the 27mm ...but still better than on the fuji 23 1.4). The fuji lenses do take great shots but only in less dynamic, more posed situations, and still with a lower hit percentage than the Viltrox.
I bailed on the brand long ago, every time I think about trying something out it's never in stock. I know I could get used, but if I don't like it I'd have to resell which I HATE. AF has always been sub par for people. Film sims never interested me, I was always thinking about which one I should use, and ended up using "standard or b/W" for everything.
Perfect commentary. Loved my Fuji cameras. Latest X-H2S had me happy for a whille. But I've been photographing action a lot and Fuji has gotten terrible. Its as though they created algorithms akin to throwing darts as a prediction. Absolute garbage. I gave up. I bought the R6MII, leave all the AF settings in full auto, and get nearly every shot in focus. And that's with the inexpensive RF glass regardless of the type of AF motor. The Canon also adjusts the ISO when it senses a flash attached automatically and increases flash power with a locked in/low ISO (not to mention adjust the EVF output). The X-H2S would not do this. Fuji crapped the bed.
fujifilm is no longer that company we known. This company is suck now, never invest on the technology, only sold classic feel to China market and never encounter true user feedback
I share your frustrations. My X-T5 has been unreliable and uninspiring. Been using a a used z7 II with z 24-120 f4 S with the z 40f2 and have found it much more reliable and inspiring for how I shoot. I don’t need the latest AI tracking AF, just basic reliable AF and the Nikon can do that but my X-T5 frustrates me with native primes way too often. Weirdly I find my old X-T1 with the small f2 primes a happier experience. Hope Fuji can figure out their (possible) growth pains as I am rooting for them, but lately has only been frustration getting and using their newest.
Long ago I came to the conclusion that Fuji cameras are only good for static subjects. If you're shooting anything that moves use a different brand, even a 10-15 year old DSLR will give you a better hit rate. Fuji fans always blame the user, focus settings or that you have the older lenses and need to upgrade. I have the very slow AF old XF56mm f1.2 and was told that I'd notice a much bigger improvement with the AF on the XF90mm f2 as it had the much better linear focus motor. The 90mm still hunts far too much, it's slow to AF and has a poor hit rate of around 50% on a slow moving subject. I love the image and build quality from Fuji lenses, their customer service with repairs is excellent and puts Nikon's to shame, but having cameras that cannot achieve a better hit rate than 50% on slow moving subjects at just 3fps is unforgiveable. Even my 14 year old Nikon D700 can achieve a hit rate of at least 80% with single point in AF-C mode, I've yet to find a Fuji get close to that.
Like many others I dumped Fuji as they are frankly becoming a joke at this point when it comes to AF. Now shooting on Nikon and the AF is on another planet - AND it's FF :)
That's right! There was news on Fujirumors that the CEO of Fuji gave an interview that in his opinion everything is going according to plan and the product defect was created specifically. Because they don't want to lose the price of cameras if there is overproduction. In general, such an approach to business and such an attitude towards the user is unlikely to lead the company to prosperity. IMHO
Usually if something goes wrong (or if enough people complain), they'll release a new firmware (say 4.5) which will actually be an old one, and later they'll release a new one agin (say 5.0) which will have those issues adressed. Happend to me with my X-T2.
I'm undecided, between Nikon, Sony and Canon. I think I'll go Nikon, maybe. I'll wait until 2025. Seems like Nikon is on par or very close to Sony and Canon in AF and image quality, if not even better in some things.
im not too sure on the scarseity as I believe almost all of the camera manufacturers have said issue (for lenses at least). An example I will provide is I placed an order for a 70-300mm xf lens and I waited about 10 days before I could go and collect it. My sister just bought a sony a7v and received the body about a week to 10 days later, however she ordered three native lenses at the end of June and as of writing this it has been about 10 or so days and the other day she received an email notification saying that her order is being delayed with no predicted time line. I just think the industry is growing at a faster rate than what the manufacturers can keep up with, and with all of them having such a large variety of options they just haven't scaled up to match the market. (this is my opinion not fact).
I agree. I use the xt4 for my personal stuff but I wouldn’t dare use it for pro purposes. Exactly because of the AF. I can’t depend on it which would make it pretty risky and tedious. I still use Canon since it’s very dependable and hardly misses the mark. If I do miss it it’s because I make the error. It’s such a pity because I really enjoy the xt4 results.
It's not just AF and supply that's the problem. Also a lot of quality control issues and more cheaper things on the cameras in general. All this together really speaks for a quick profit company and not like they used to be.
These issue makes me think that Fuji does not care about pros 😭 they only care about the normal people who buys the x100vs, hugely disappointed, I am looking at Canon and Sony right now.. a shame, fuji is top 2 on color science imo...☹️
I reached my braking point with Fuji not too long ago & sold all my Fuji gear. The autofocus is terrible, gives you false focus indicators, & misses focus 90% of the time, regardless of how I tweaked the settings. The autofocus should work out of the box & not force one to dive into menus & settings (which doesn't fix anything). I went back to Sony, whose autofocus just works; no fiddling with settings required, no false positives, & a 95%+ hit rate compared to Fuji's 10%. Also, I can walk into BestBuy or any camera store & pick up what I need right away if needed
Been an exclusive Fuji shooter for more than 10 years, got tired with these issues you’re talking about, sold all my gear and bought a Nikon ZF kit. I never looked back.
i've lost my faith even being fuji-fanboy since 2019 and using my beloved xpro3, once i became a father and my kid started to walk and run - i tried to stick to xpro3, but it's suuuch a paaaain and even with a native fuji glass i wasn't able to stick to him with AF (even my ricoh gr3x is doing better AF job, who could tell), so i sold it and i got leica sl2s, the camera everyone is giving hard times because of the "slow and unreliable AF," BUUUUT seems like all of these people who's ranting that sl2s has a bad AF just didn't shoot with fuji cameras, i mean... the sl2s gives me pics in focus 99% of the time where xpro3 even don't shoot because it can't focus on anything, i miss all the SOOC shots that i may take and still could continue to take, except pics of my kid, my personal needs changed so my camera
That was my problem too, Fuji AF couldn't cope with a running toddler whilst my Nikon had no problem! I gave up on Fuji, having listened to the fanboys saying the AF had improved.
the issue is that adding assembly lines is not a cheap and quick process. Sometimes artificial short term hype might not be enough of a factor for a company to open new assembly lines. So it makes sense to bring the film simulation demand towards existing cameras and leverage on the existing assembly lines to ensure some level of quality. But as for the Firmware update screwing up and AF... thats totally Fuji's fault.
I bought the x-H2 for a lightweight landscape alternative so my expectations have been thoroughly met. I have never expected any of my previous X line cameras to be Canon R5 AF accurate. Unfortunately Fuji jumped into the high spec hybrid market, something they are not and probably will never be at there price point. They should leave that to the Big 3. (Nikon z6iii kicks ass)
I like Fuji cameras, but they have never been professional gear. Ive never seen a pro stills shooter or pro video shooter with Fuji kit on the job. Sure as their BTS, fun cam yeah, but not their moneymaker. It is really annoying that they do this scarcity thing. I'm not sure it makes me want their cameras more tbh.
I had the same problem with the AF on an XH2 a year and a half ago, though sounds like it’s got worse. I sold all my Fuji gear after frustration with the AF and went to the A7CR and the sigma I series lenses. Though Nikon are appealing now their AF has improved and they offer better screens and EVFs.
I was looking to upgrade to X-H2s from my X-S10 at some point, but with the current state of Fuji autofocus and firmware updates, I started to look elsewhere, maybe Lumix. It's too bad because I love Fuji colors, and film sims are fun for photos. They really need to fix this. I want my next camera to have better autofocus than my X-S10, not worse.
Fuji focuses worse than the old Panasonic. Unacceptable! Now I shoot with Sony 7Cii after many Fuji iterations and it’s the most enjoyable camera I’ve ever owned. The handling and the results are awesome.
Yeah used to have an Xpro 3 in 2020 with the official m mount adapter. Loved the 27 2.8 but preferred manual focus. I also got increasingly frustrated with fujifilm and saw them losing their way more and more. Sold my xpro 3 last year for more than what I paid for and got a leica M10r. Not saying leica is better it’s kinda apples and oranges and depends alot on what you use it for but the crop and corner performance with my m mount lenses always bothered me. Also never used my xpro for video. Kept that ef x20 flash tho.
It took them so long to even admit that there’s something wrong. And even with the video they released yesterday, they only talk about AF for video (most people don’t care) and omit several latest camera like X-T5
So glad I sold my Fuji gear this year and didn’t upgrade to newer bodies... It was a great 5 year run with my xt3 but really don’t like the direction they’re going. Definitely switching to Nikon or LUMIX as I’m focusing more on nature / wildlife.
I have an X-H2S for a couple of months, I also have an X-S10. X-H2S is great on a lot of points, but I agree that AF can be dissapointing sometimes. I hoped that the update would have improve the AF behavior but it is still annoying. I think it is the most important improvement point for their cameras. I look forward for upcoming AF updates, hoping that it will improve otherwise I'll think to change for Sony.
Have you considered Panasonic? I always loved Lumix G (m4/3) but once I was able to afford an S5 (now I have an S5ii), I haven't been interested in any other camera. Downside? Bulkier and Heavier system. Upside? More predictive autofocus, video specs punch above it's weight class and you can now install live LUTs for photos and videos. So you can also get your "camera recipe" fix. This is also coming from someone who considers Fuji my second favorite camera brand. Like you said, they're just super behind with performance at the moment.
Hence why I’ve never sold it. It’s more than enough for me. When I’ll get more paid job. I’ll simply move to Sony for pro video work and keep Fuji for photography.
They themselves have admitted that its better business to have out of stuck X100 cameras rather than to bunch without being sold. They are taking advantage of the TikTok trend for nostalgia. Once that is over, we will see how it goes for them. I looked all over Tokyo back in April for a used Fuji camera and only found out one store. The rest of stores had plenty cameras for all other brands but Fujifilm models only were the most recent ones, and in some cases none at all. I love my X-T5 but its sad to know that firmware can screw up the AF so bad.
the artificial scarcity issue is driving me INSANE! Gives me no confidence especially if you break something or need something in a pinch. And yes the scarcity of that pancake lens makes zero sense. One of the same issues why I switched away from Pentax even though I loved them for years. For them scarcity was less an issue as was lack of innovation and not staying as innovative as the competition. Seriously considering switching over to Nikon.
Funny…I’m coming to Fuji from Nikon because of all the production problems with them. Issues with hardware, defective sensors, Z6iii “locks up”…..something is going on with camera manufacturers these days. I have never seen a new Nikon camera in any of my local camera shops for at least a year, and I’m in a huge city, so this is not a solely Fuji problem. I get my XT-5 this week, and there are two of the colour I didn’t want in the shop on the shelf…..
My take is that there's nothing wrong with either Nikon or Fuji. I have bought and sold many of both brands' products over the past 4 years and I haven't had a single issue. Things are exaggerated especially by RUclipsrs who try to find issues in order to generate discussions and views.
@@leep5113 I get what you are saying, I am just adding my own experience. I also have many friends who use mirrorless Nikons professionally and no one has ever complained. In any case, it is our own experience that matters in the end. Enjoy your XT5!
@@AntonisKorakakis I’m hoping that Nikon make and ship more cameras to market and resolve any production problems soon…I have to be cautious about what I sink my cash into since I am retiring soon, so any final camera has to give me the biggest bang for the buck. The XT-5 is based on trading-in older cameras/lenses.
This predictive AI algorithm is not working well at all. Fuji are so far behind now in this area & the more they try to improve their AI AF, the worse it seems to get... Have they even acknowledged it's a problem?
no camera is perfect. My nikon does miss focus sometime, but not as bad a my friend's fuji xt5 he just got. He is handicap and just hit the button. He has canon, sony and nikon too. He get so many OoF (out of focus) shot with fuji. People move ever so slightly. The firmware AF tracking predicting is what a lot of 3d tracking is, but I guest Fuji is a little behind here in the algorithm.
They’re hanging onto that buzz… They are going to ruin their line and if/ when Nikon and Lumix get their acts together Fuji may be done… Pixii is making moves too!
Eric, it’s funny you mention “false scarcity” because I just read something written/said by a Fuji person (leadership) talking about how Leica has created a “value brand” by not flooding the market with product. At least that was the gist of it. Fuji keeps price up through scarcity. What a coincidence that you just brought this up. I can’t remember where I read it, but will share if I can find it.
But more fool Fujifilm, Leica does scarcity through price (backed up by quality of materials and manufacture) rather than availablility. Fujifilm is selling themselves short.
autofocus is not the problem. its users that put up with it, persist and purchase new models on the hope things improve. panasonic did an amazing job but fuji guys rave about the colour even though the image is blurred and unusable. i was one of these people but now im saved and free of the firmware will it wont fix autofocus anxiety.
The four standard replies of Fuji fan boys when they hear criticism against Fuji's AF: 1. stop focusing on the equipment, focus on improving your skills; 2. check your settings, the camera is set-up wrong; 3. don't use this lens, use the other one instead; 4. the youtubers are making things up, their videos are optical illusions and mind tricks.

Eric, was just listening to the LenShark Photography Podcast and Sharky James brought up the whole Fuji "scarcity" issue. He spent quite a bit of time trying to tell us it's BS. I don't agree with him but you might want to take a listen.
Saving my money for another brand. I am done trying to get gear from Fujifilm. Horrible company is creating scarcity, we all know it. The RUclips or Tic Tok camera really isn't worth the money, nor the wait.
I placed an order for the XF150-600 on B&H when it was "backordered" and on SALE and I got a shipping notification 1.5 weeks later...so they are producing. I agree they need to nail the AF in the next generations of XT and especially the XH lines. However, I've been having a blast with the 150-600 on XH2S and the bird AF has been working great for me. I'm going to buy the X-S20 as a backup camera.
Maybe they will address it in a firmware update. I’ve been shooting Fuji for 7 years now. The autofocus system in my opinion has never been great. I don’t understand how every other camera manufacturer seems to have a better autofocus system. Why can’t they catch up? If your shooting a static subjects you can make it work but action not so much. I have a Nikon d500 I use for sports and it has a way better autofocus system and be honest the image are just as good. I love the size of the Fuji cameras and their lenses are extremely sharp when they achieve proper focus. I think I’m about to jump ship and go to another brand.
I agree especially on the point of the accessibility for pros However I would add that serious enthusiasts like myself. I have and X-T5 and X-T3 for a backup However if either one would have an issue, I would expect to be able to get a new X-T5 by the weekend. And this scares me a bit. Some weekends I take 2,000 photos. So it would not take long before I started going a bit stir crazy if I could not save the memories Intend on being equipped to do so. I am wondering if this first iteration of predictive AF is a data collection phase. Is it possible for them to do that through the APP? It would be cool and creepy if they could do enough AF Datta collection to use to improve the AF Issues. You Need to train the system somehow.
Rest of the cameras: Autofocus
Fuji: Outoffocus
hahahahhah deadddd
Loooool 🤭😬
bravo, sir
As much as I loved the Fujifilm cameras, these issues is the reason why I just got my Q3 and I couldn’t be happier at this point.
yeah i think everybody will be happy wit ha Q3 :D
It's hard to believe my H2S worked fine when been released, but after all the updates, I'm trying to figure out how to focus on my son's eye when he run towards me😂
I encourage you to downgrade to 1.03, its now a new camera. Here to help if needed :)
I noticed the same, it got worse with each firmware update
I went bird hunting this weekend with my X-T5 and the 100-400 and of course used the bird subject detection. Of around 300 shots of flying birds I probably have 5 with a bird in focus...It's just gotten terrible.
The scarcity issue is my biggest beef with them.
While I find the predictive AF features amazing sometimes, I find they get in my way. I'm fine with contrast detect with a single point. Sometimes, simplicity is king.
Fuji is fudging up. Sold all my Fuji gear after getting a ZF. Such an amazing camera. It made my fujis feel like toy cameras
Les couleurs sooc de nikon sont bonnes ?
@@LedMirass120 I like them personally. Yes Fuji colors can be nicer out of camera but the FF sensor of the ZF just gives photos that 3D pop that an apsc sensor never will be able to
How is the wireless transfer? I’m someone who doesn’t want to edit as I do that with my pro kit(Sony). Fuji has been very nice for transfers. Not the fastest but the statistics etc it has are great and filters are great.
I bought the xt5 but then started reading about the firmware. Next Day I have returned the camera and exchanged it with the Nikon Zf aswell
@@thenazgul3669 cool. Let me know what you think!
I looove Fuji. But this AF issue is making me miss my Sony A7CR.
I honestly don’t know why so many photographers are ok with subpar equipment?! As a Photographer, I want my work flow to be as smooth and easy as it can be! 😅
Finally, a clever photographer :D
Thank god you get it on the artificial scarcity. Have been saying it since 2022. Now even PetaPixel are running cover for them.
You make a lot of good points that I haven’t seen others talk about before. Subscribed!
Sold off 4 Fuji bodies and many many lenses last year and went Sony A7CR. Super happy with AF now!
#XT1and XT2!
Very reasonable take. I'm glad to hear it's not just me. 😎
If I'm brutally honest, I don't think Fujifilm AF has improved since the X-T2, nor the IBIS since the X-H1.
Having a breakdown here.
After that statement about them holding back their inventory on purpose that was it for me . I got my v but I’m done buying into them for now .
Same. I own an XT-3 and XT-5 and I’m definitely done with Fuji. Autofocus is awful compared to my a6700.
Nice video!
Thank God, I stayed with Nikon ….they are getting better and better
Issues like this are exactly why I switched to Sony. Even though I'm a hobbyist, I need to be confident in reliable autofocus and Sony is just SO much better.
And this is why I use Panasonic FF.
The Fuji CEO has spoken about this. The limited supply is manufactured to drive up the cost. They could meet demand but they chose not to.
I can confirm, even on the native lens XH2S still has the same autofocus issue.
I have pretty much sent in every fuji I have owned for something like shutter replacement, sensor replacements or dial issues.
... what he said ... 100% !
Good video 🎉 my thoughts on the scarcity issue too. It’s intentional
Well said sir. Thank you for saying this. its a joke
Many camera makers restrict firmware downgrades, mainly to prevent people from downgrading when they do things like restrict new 3rd party batteries.
Fuji financially is doing very well, …..I think once they see the customer base starts to dwindle….they will have to do it right….unfortunately the sooner we leave Fuji the sooner they will get to it.
That's so frustrating when firmware does that. I hope they fix the problem soon.
I've loaned it out but once I get it back I think I'll keep the fuji xh2 with the two viltrox lenses, sell all the fuji lenses and use the cash to get some more to fit the d850.
how much of a different are the viltrox pro lenses compared to ther fujis?
Same. Reala Ace is good too
Perfect commentary.
Sadly you are right.. I shoot fuji since 7 years and i love the cameras.. i want to keep loving them...
I am totally agree 👍
It's not just AF and supply that's the problem. Also a lot of quality control issues and more cheaper things on the cameras in general. All this together really speaks for a quick profit company and not like they used to be.
These issue makes me think that Fuji does not care about pros 😭 they only care about the normal people who buys the x100vs, hugely disappointed, I am looking at Canon and Sony right now.. a shame, fuji is top 2 on color science imo...☹️
Spot on take. My thoughts exactly
Yes
@@katieevans6017 high five to you, and yeah, i hear that fuji's AF has some improvements here and there, but i waited 5 years, no more
the issue is that adding assembly lines is not a cheap and quick process.
Something definitely is going on at Fuji
The Kaizen is a Trojan horse 🤣🤣🤣
It’s crazy that their older cameras AF are better than the new. I’m refusing to buy anything newer than a xs10 at the moment.
I switched from Nixon Z to Fujifilm 2 years ago. I have still no problem with the AF. Maybe because I shoot in Single
Is this the same as af-s single square?
This issue sounds infuriating.
Watch the video in my description. It is
Have you considered Panasonic? I always loved Lumix G (m4/3) but once I was able to afford an S5 (now I have an S5ii), I haven't been interested in any other camera. Downside? Bulkier and Heavier system. Upside? More predictive autofocus, video specs punch above it's weight class and you can now install live LUTs for photos and videos. So you can also get your "camera recipe" fix. This is also coming from someone who considers Fuji my second favorite camera brand. Like you said, they're just super behind with performance at the moment.
No issues here with a xt4
Hence why I’ve never sold it. It’s more than enough for me. When I’ll get more paid job. I’ll simply move to Sony for pro video work and keep Fuji for photography.
I don’t think it’s artificial scarcity, I think they are bad at predicting demand…kind of like they are bad at programming AF haha
The Fuji CEO has actually admitted to creating production scarcity to maintain the brand strength and cost. Check out the article on FujiRumors.
Yeah it frustrates me honestly …. But for my purposes the AF is usable. If I was a pro, it would be a no go
the artificial scarcity issue is driving me INSANE!
@@AntonisKorakakis true, but I do know people who have had these issues with the newer Nikon’s. Makes me a bit skittish about buying…
I downloaded the update for my XT-5 but have not installed it yet. Guess I will hold off until the next update. Thanks.
If you are on v3.01, v4.00 is better.
If you are on v2.10, hold onto it and don't update.
@@JakeChambersOy V2.03
They’re hanging onto that buzz… They are going to ruin their line and if/ when Nikon and Lumix get their acts together Fuji may be done… Pixii is making moves too!
Eric, it’s funny you mention “false scarcity” because I just read something written/said by a Fuji person (leadership) talking about how Leica has created a “value brand” by not flooding the market with product. At least that was the gist of it. Fuji keeps price up through scarcity. What a coincidence that you just brought this up. I can’t remember where I read it, but will share if I can find it.
I saw the interview… that’s what prompted this. It’s garbage
Yeah the af steered me away from an xt3 even tho its a total upgrade from my a6400
The four standard replies of Fuji fan boys when they hear criticism against Fuji's AF:
1. stop focusing on the equipment, focus on improving your skills;
2. check your settings, the camera is set-up wrong;
3. don't use this lens, use the other one instead;
4. the youtubers are making things up, their videos are optical illusions and mind tricks.
@@-ksw- to be fair some of their camers offer insane value.
Xs10 with its ibis
Xt3 for cheap 4k60
Xh1 for cheap workhorse body
Xt2 for cheap oversampled 4k
The rest is honestly on par with other brands and their af is well ...
Oh boi, No they are Not. Not even the Xh2's is on the Same Level AF Like a random Sony Kamera. I usw IT now for nearly 2 years and No, ITS not.@@JJARCHIE
@@IJAY2509 i bought my a6400 when it launched (2019) , used it heavily alongside the zve10 and borrowed my friend' a6700 and a73 time to time. You dont get to flex only your 2 years of usage.
Read again what i said - never said they had any comparable af , all i said was anything but the af.
Get some reading comprehension and fix your grammar
Eric, was just listening to the LenShark Photography Podcast and Sharky James brought up the whole Fuji "scarcity" issue. He spent quite a bit of time trying to tell us it's BS. I don't agree with him but you might want to take a listen.
Fujfilm xt5 was better but now worse because of the updates and fujifilm doest seem to care about this issue
Sometimes technological advances in cameras are dumb. Of course, I learned photography in the 1950’s.
Amen!
I think I’m about to jump ship and go to another brand.
thee are af problems even in this video. happy to get a Sony in the end.
