I personally feel the lyrics and even the video could be about someone in an abusive relationship that's been scared to stand up for themselves but then come to the realization that they are not afraid anymore even though they know what's coming when they fight back, maybe they died but at least they were free and out of the situation. All i know is Meg Myers writes lyrics as if she has lived a few lives already.

This song is great. The beat, the chorus, everything fits. And the screams at 2:40 are so much real and full of feeling, plus the natural voice without any clew of autotune. I think the Music Industry needs more of this. Loved the song and the singer. Greetings from Brazil.

To me, this song is about being abused and all the gifts your abuser uses as “apologies” like, eventually the gifts aren’t enough to make up for the wounds and you want to fight back.
Yeah, I once knew a beautiful youing woman, a co-worker, in the 90's. She lived with a physical abuser who ended up kicking HER out, on Christmas Eve, no less. The punchline is that she eventually ended up going back to him because she had nowhere else to go at the time.

Interesting interpretation
I think she is an amazing poet and artist. She speaks volumes. And shows raw emotions. Simply amazing. Because most people can't show it. And she does beautifully. She most definitely has my respect.

You guys missed the whole point of the video. Shes breaking free from being so good all the time. Everything was white in the beginning (pure and good) but then she saw all of the colors ("bad" and different) and it intrigued her but it also hurt her. Shes acknowledging the fact that she has these demons and make her see things differently. I love Meg Myers. She's so raw and if you see all her videos you can see the pure emotion that she puts into her song lyrics and into the visuals. Go and Heart Heart Head are just simply breathtaking. She's not ashamed of her feelings even if they are strange and twisted and I LOVE IT. It seems as if music is a way for her to show another side of her, one that's not usually "normal". I think we all have this side but we're simply too afraid to show it or even admit it.
Totally agree! The way she holds herself during an interview (more quiet, reserved, hesitant) vs. her live performances (full emotion, loud, expressive) showcases this other side you mention. I know everyone is quick to toss her in with the angsty 90s chicks (Alanis, Tori, Fiona, etc.) but she should embrace it because it's a group of women completely unafraid of showing the world some raw emotion and rough life experiences. You can FEEL her pains and urges in her music. Definitely refreshing given all the pop crap out there. Solid stuff and I can't wait for more!

I like how they used a low framerate at 2:40 in contrast to the high framerate slow-motion scenes. They used this same effect in the more recent Mad Max at the beginning during some of the action scenes. Makes it appear really chaotic and intense.

All the previous interpretations are dope- the discussions and different perspectives is why I'm here of course- aside from the raw talent of this queen. I felt i related to the stuffed animals and all the battering and bruises like the world we live in and all the 'little regular daily' moments we all go through day to day- just shes feels pulled and hurt and led astray by things and moments and emotions that other people wouldn't feel so strongly- thus the stuffed fluffy animal causing the pain- this is what life feels like to me, and im screaming bc its all so much sometimes- while everyone around me doesn't even seem effected.
