  • I made this deeply resonant steel tank drum in my parents garage, with no experience and no previous music knowledge. The similar hang drum's tuning is celtic minor (d3,a4,c4,d4,e4,f4,g4,d5). I based my tuning on a handpan like that.
I think it turned out insanely good. And I am very happy with my result, even though Ive never played one of these drums its super fun to experiment. I think it is quite the intuitive instrument, and easy to learn. I just need to put more effort in.
Tell me all your music theory mistakes in the comments. If you have perfect pitch this vid may not be for you :DD

That sounds beautiful. Great sustain and I love the resonance. May be a nice winter project for me to try...

Very nice work! You have created a "tongue drum," however, not a handpan. The notes of the tongue drum are determined by the size of the tongue, whereas on a handpan, the notes are actually hammered into the steel. Sweet little drum you made though!!!

I was a bit confused I thought the two names were interchangable, thanks :D

you should fill it with water so the gas in the steel absorbs into the water also cut it with water in it and it should not explode or catch on fire, also use a rip saw to cut the top off

Did not think of cutting it with the water inside, but I guess it is quite genius. If I ever make another will keep in mind ! Thanks !

This is from two years ago? And you’ve been making them ever since? So I’m assuming the ones you’re making now sound very different!! You should upload a new one! 🛸🎶..🤗🦋

Hey, yeah Ive made a couple more but i guess the name serves me right cos the new ones turned out badly, Ive tried to replicate my initial success 3 times, but to no awail, but I will try again in the future
