AWESOME Video, Jason! Main thing I wanted to know is if settings in Video and Photo mode were Independent or Dependent on each other and you were the only one that answered or at least answered it properly! And also only one to provide detailed views on how that is done (and that's a pretty cool new feature to let the user decide which ones can be independent or not). Thanks again for this very informative and detailed video!
As someone leaning more and more to video, the A7III has been fun, but the A7SIII with all framerates in FF and the fastest most minimal rolling shutter CMOS and dual native ISO is just hard to beat. A7IV is a super powerful photo video camera that seems more 60/40 rather than 50/50 I kind of wish Sony didn’t make it 33mp but kept 24mp or made 28mp if that meant the 4K60p would not have to crop to APS-C (Super35). And would keep rolling shutter a bit more in check. Those 2 factors are too critical for video to compromise on. And I’m actually okay with shooting stills at 12mp. Just nail the composition and never crop. And if some high end job would come along, I’ll rent an A7R series if the client requires super large files. But usually clients complain files of 24mp are too big for social media… so yeah.
Can't fault your logic, it expresses exactly how I feel about this new camera. Sony decided to listen more to the wallet rather than what users really needed, although don't get me wrong, it's a great camera overall but such a shame for the cropped 4k 60 🤦🏻♂️
I do stills with a7S3 too - 12mp compressed RAW is great & easier to handle/store, yes 24mp would of been better for videography but Sony probably wanted to improve on both fronts & that they did. Curious to see a7Cii as well as a7S4 (19mp from fx9?)
@@mirrorlessny storage is a good point although since I bought a Qnap Nas I didn't experience any more issues with space. Jason, this is the best review that every other YT-er should have made.. they all just talk about 100fps and the crop at 4k60p.. this is going to be a very very worthy upgrade from the A7-III imo
Just the vastly improved focusing alone is a great upgrade. But i love that finally there is a fully functional touch screen. I also really like that when you switch to video it has a video menu. And in stills its a stills menu. Also the new lossless raw. And no video record limit. And the flip screen and ergernomics. Great buffer if using the best card. And 33mp is a perfect sweet spot. Seems like a great camera. But i see people whining that it won't shoot uncompressed raw at 10fps. Or full frame 4k60p. There's always something people are unhappy about. Personally for what i do I'm still happy with my A7r lll. But if i was looking for a new camera i would be very happy with the A74.

I've been wanting to get back on photography and have been waiting for this, but it's so much more expensive than iii. I think it makes sense to get a iv if I'm already going to spend that much... but should I?
Well, for the release of the IV, it is nearly the same price as the iii release. For the price, I'd say it's pretty fair. For the upgrade, probably not. I'd say, just stay with the iii if you are just using for personal/casual use. But if you are looking to make some money, a lot of the features and quality will come greater on the IV imo. That's too much. I bought a7Riii last year and am fully happy with it. Where does it stand now? Cost ist almost same as that of a7iv. Only extra 9mp. Does it matter?
@@Cony989 Thanks for the feedback. Yes I mostly shoot stills, portraits, landscape & City. A7riii does a good job for that. No added advantage with a7iv there. Occasional videos & contents limited 1080/60fps. For that my old a6000 is enough.

@@NAM3L3555 this answer was from BandH Photo:The full frame Sony a7 IV Mirrorless Camera (B&H# SOA74) has 759 on-sensor phase detection focus points as well as 425 contrast detection points. According to the AF algorithm, the camera will choose the appropriate point(s) at which to focus and then use that/those focus point(s) to attain critical focus. In AF-S mode, the additional step of using contrast AF to confirm focus is used to maximize accuracy. . . at the cost of very slightly reducing focus speed. @@TechnoBabble Agreed all those points are true. But is it worth the additional cost?Clearly you all are Sony fans. The price isn’t competitive. It’ll spend the extra and get a a7RIV. I’m a photographer doing care about video features
I think the upgrade from 3 to 4 only makes sense for video shooters. All major updates like better stabilisation, anti focus breathing, 4k60, no record limit etc. are in fact just video options. The 3 rocks good enough in photography and if it's not professional enough for you, the 4 won't be either.
As an A5100 shooter I feel a bit like a bum here, but I see the A7iv vs iii benefits in photo: 33m px sensor - better AF - electronic shutter - 3,68m px EVF - better ergo & UI - anti-dust shutter - LC RAW - unlimited burst for action
I love the focus mapping, that is really intuitive; breathing comp, active stabilization and the faster eye/animal CAF and tracking are also really huge innovations and upgrades.
I believe the battery grip now fits all current bodies, A7IV,, A7RIV, A7SIII, A9II, and A1. Also with A7IV you can crop anywhere within a photo and save it in-camera.

@10:25 um, can you please tell us which is which. You show a side by side to highlight new color science but don’t say which is the new camera lol
In Jan I bought A7rIII for a bigger price and now this one looks better at everything and costs cheaper 🥲
The improved AF is a thing though.
And the AF from the A1, that just gets glossed over ?
CFE card -> almost unlimited burst shooting. I hate it so much in the A73 when it starts lagging after 20 something pix...
Can we just get a line skipped FF 4K 60FPS?
Praying the guys responsible for the Unlimited Recording Time hack can somehow hack the a7iv to do this 🙏
If enough people request it, Sony might add this via a firmware. After all, that's how the Canon R6 does its 4k60.
@@youuuuuuuuuuutube I was thinking the same. We gotta create the backlash to get the change we want!
@@WillStinton No way upgrade this new camera because sony gives 5fps for uncompressed and loseless compressed raw. TERRIBLE!! TERRIBLE ROLLING SHUTTER, Lcd Resolution still worse. Loud Mechanical shutter and useless Electronic shutters because of banding, no indoor photography and no fast moving photography.
I won't use 99% of these so I'll be sticking to my a7iii.
I kinda agree, but I have an a6400, a73 and a7r3. I think I can trade my a6400, which was a dedicated video cam, and another full frame so I can keep 2 cameras instead of three. But which full frame to trade in....
@@3rebornxd Depends what you want. The a7riii is a higher megapixel a7iii so if you take photos I'd keep that. If not then trade the riii
@@anonym5510 I'm a hybrid shooter but I def take more photos than videos. Maybe A7iii has to go...
@@3rebornxd I'd keep the a7riii then
@@anonym5510 I appreciate it!!
