Easily the best slat wall video I’ve seen! Great information, straight to the point, and the wall came out 🔥🔥🔥 Can’t wait to see the rest of the series!!
Thanks, I have actually filmed a whole series building out the studio. I build an electric standing desk and a grove made inspired desk shelf. But haven’t gotten around to editing the videos 😩😩😩 but your comment is the kick in the a$$ to get it done!
Neat project, it turned out wonderful! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas. I have been searching RUclips for ideas because I'm working on making a slat wall for my bedroom studio. Prices at HD are insane now, plus I live in the SF Bay Area and prices are high here as well. In my design, I am looking at how to reduce the number of slats, but I'm using a roll of acoustical closed-cell foam from Amazon that is 10mm thick, I want to cover 2 walls one 6' and the other 9'... so I will space the slats (1.5" wide) about 2" to 2.5" apart... I mocked it up on the wall, it looks good and as long as I am consistent it should be fine, it looks good and there's more of the sound absorbing foam exposed ... anyway, this is Still TBD. BTW, you mentioned about the solvent smells from the oil-based stains, yes, they are horrible, and I've used them in the past, I put it on sparingly and wiped it off, but no matter how much you wipe off, and even finish with a film, like poly and leave them outside for a few days... it still smelled for weeks. I learned my lesson, I use a water-based product, not only easier to clean up but the smell is gone in a few days. Knowing this, I plan to let the slats have time to outgas before installing them. Plus I will make 39" panels in my shop so it's just a matter of installing them on the wall.
@@HobbyHalloween thanks for your comment! I’m based in Atl and have always heard everything is more expensive in SF. I love your idea for the foam. I may go back and make an update video installing that or a similar foam. Haven’t decided yet. Glad the video was helpful please send some pics of the finished product whenever you tackle it!! Happy new year!!!
@@PablosPOV I left a comment and it disappeared. I ended up returning the foam because it was going to be a disaster... and after pricing the DIY vs. finished product; I purchased a slat wall product 8" x 94.5"... it has a heavy black felt backing (about 1/2"), not foam, so if I were to DIY a slat wall, I'd design it using that material. Your suggestion of putting in slats (horizontal) I used that to help secure the product to the wall. I thought I'd save you the headache I had If you revisit a DIY slat wall installation.
You fire 🔥 if you’d like, for acoustic measures, a felt layer can be punched on the backside of the wood panels. Felt is used for sound absorption, in order to get less sound frequencies bouncing around in the room. Regardless, great job 👏🏽
@@PablosPOV honestly the complete breakdown, it was very detailed and helpful to those like me who wouldn’t have a glue about what to look for in the stores. Thank you
Good question, I think they have a lower limit on how small they’re willing to cut the strips. But in Theory you could definitely have them get the boards cut closer to final size.
I love it definitely going to build but I guess my question is does this do the same as the slat panels without any padding, also does this replace making or purchasing acoustic panels? Esthetic wise this is beautiful I’m just trying to figure if it functions the same as store bought?
@@beabossc great question, first, thanks for the compliment! The short answer is, this build isn’t a sound treatment for the space. It will help a bit with breaking up reflecting sound but it won’t absorb sound the same way a sound panel would. Hope this helps! N I may end up doing a redesign with sound proofing!
No you don’t have to have an air compressor. Because I already owned the compressor it was cheaper to go that route. But they make plug in versions and battery powered versions also. Lemme know if you have any other questions.
Great job! Just one small correction though. That plywood is not "sanded", it is "SANDE" plywood. I know it looks like a typo on the sticker, but it's not. "Sande" is a species of wood that is imported from a large area of land from Ecuador to Columbia and also sometimes near Costa Rica. It is used mostly to make plywood. It is also sometimes called Mulberry Wood. Again, great work and I look forward to more. I also subscribed! :)
What is the point of the lattice since you're not going into studs? I am about to do this project and trying to make sure I avoid any misteps and so on. Seems like since those lattice are so narrow, they don't serve a purpose? (honestly asking because I don't know) Let me back track. I know you put the lattice into studs - this makes sense. But then if you are using brad nails that are too long and go through the slat and the lattice making holes in wall, then to me, the lattice part is unecessary. Now if you are using nails that happen to perfectly go through the slats and lattice and not hit the wall, that would make more sense. but I don't think the lattice is thick enough to hold that way?
@@PablosPOV Yeah I understand that. Oh wait I was overthinking it lol. I have been trying to figure out how to do the project without 500 holes int he wall so my mind got lost. You still have holes in the wall but the lattice makes it a little stronger hold since it's wood and not sheetrock. Lol I am dumb. Same concept of how I have my 3 montirs in a crossboard that's int he studs. Sorry for the dumb question. Most every other video just puts them in sheet rock from the side and said they will NOT come out. But I supposed the lattice gives extra support just to be safe.
@ no worries! And no such thing as a dumb question! Glad I and the video could help! Post some pics of the finished wall! Def love to see how it comes out
