My Wife saw Slat walls somewhere and really liked them, she wanted me to to 2 walls in our entry way. I was trying to think of how I could attach the slats as nailing straight into the sheetrock would hold. I did a search for slat walls on RUclips and saw your video, I think it was the third one down but I picked yours. Great idea to angle the nails in from the sides, both because it helps lock them to the sheetrock and also hides the nails. I finished the project a couple of days ago, she is very happy. Thanks for the help
That made my day Steve, thank you for leaving your comment that really gave me motivation to keep making more videos like this! I have some cool tutorials of other projects we do for clients I'll be uploading this year. If you're on Instagram could you send us a picture of your slat wall!
Hey Steve, I saw your post on my google page. That wall looks amazing! I like the idea of having the plants in the room as well. The color and all of it came out so good!
Yup, I was thinking the same thing, how am I going to nail slats to drywall without using some sorta adhesive. Nail them at an angle from the sides!!! F-ing genius!! Lol, this is why I'm not a carpenter.. Thanks for video!!
You obviously do this for a living but you mentioned several techniques and tips that other people have never mentioned. The 45 and nailing the sides are the biggest tips. You’re awesome thank you
Man that is a beautiful wall. It's also obvious that you've done this with care and real quality. I'm going to give this a shot and I really appreciate the video. Great tutorial!
I'm so glad I came across your reel on Instagram which led me here. Thank you so much for this breakdown. I'm about to do this to some of my walls in my house. This will save me so much time on trying to figure out the math. You are a life saver. Great job!

I’ve watched at least a dozen slat wall videos and this one struck me for 2 reasons. First, I did NOT know about that brad nail on the sides trick. Fantastic info since I just received my 18-gauge nailer earlier this week. Second, the colour. I really want to do a dark-ish walnut one (most seem to be lighter coloured) and this one turned out beautifully. Thanks!
Hey David! Thank you for your comment! Bradnailing through the sides will definitely give your wall a much clearer look! When I see the nail holes on the front of the slats it's super cringy plus it's hard to match wood filler with the color stain. Try water-base golden oak by Behr. Use two coats, that's how we got this walnut color. 1 coat will come out way too light.
@@Wouldwoodworkif in case in the future you need to take down the slats, will it be harder to take them down since they seem way more secured than if you nailed them in from the front?

Beautifully done. I am thinking about doing a small section I my living room to add interest to the entryway with a floating shelf and mirror. Thanks for the tips.
Nice work. One tip I'd recommend is use a pin nailer with 1 3/8 nails instead of Brad nails. Super small hole and strong enough hold and no puttying required.
Would pin nails still be strong enough if you want to hang shelves on this type of thing if you did the same technique shown in the video? I want to do this myself but on drywall not sure if the nails will have enough depth of wood to be in or if the 'hook technique' of 2 at an angle is good enough. Though maybe brackets for the shelves could fit in-between the slats and go into the wall directly anyway.

Hey buddy my home, believe it or not is all concrete. So what do you suggest I use to secure my slats or to secure the pieces for my accents wall thanks
What's up Robert! That get a little tricky but off the bat my mind is leaning towards building your slat wall on panels using 4x8 sheets of 1/4" or 1/2" sanded birch plywood. Make sure you paint the sanded plywood first then brad nail the slats to that with equal spacing. You will have to anchor 2x4 or 2x6 wood studs to the concrete using concrete screws or anchors horizontally then screw those panels onto the studs in between the slats (16" spacing)

Yes you could but be VERY careful as there are water lines, possibly hvac lines behind your walls. Check behind each wall to see if there is anything that might have a pipe in that area and use a very good stud finder that can show metal, pvc or copper lines
