  • Its very important to have the model number and the serial number when ordering parts for a Rinnai tankless heater. There parts may look the same but there are slight differences in them and it will just prolong the time it takes to get the hot water back on.
    A good tip is to make sure you have a good selection of screws, o rings before you start any repair on any unit.
    These repairs should be done by a licensed plumber trained in level three by Rinnai.
    When installing, servicing and repairing any Rinnai unit or any part of the plumbing or gas system, make sure you follow all state and local plumbing and gas codes and you file a permit with your local building department.
    If you have a question please e mail me at economyplmbg@aol.com
    I hope you enjoy this video and I hope it helps you in your future repairs.

    Through your videos I've learned a great deal about my tankless system, more importantly you give the comfort level that I can tackle "some" repairs on my own.
    Thanks for taking the time out to talk me on the phone and walk me through troubleshooting my "intermittent heating" problem. You are a true professional!!

    Great video. Helped me out quite a bit on my 12 year old RC98i. Same issue. No codes. Not kicking on. Tried to blow it out twice. Found the part # in that paper on the back of the door thanks to you. Found the part new for $85.00. The part did come with the O rings and the directions included in the kit were actually very good. Took about an hour to do. Immediately worked. Water also seams to be hotter and works faster than before. So it may have been degrading over time. Local repair company wanted $300.00 just to diagnose and recommended replacing it due to age. That would have been such a waste.

    great video, based on your video, I'm pretty sure my water servo valve went out(not opeing up). my house get's cold water only, no error code but no hot water, and all pipes don't spew hot water. any idea how to get the servo valve working as it's not opening up and no water is able to go through to the tank. it is a 17 yr old tankless, thinking I should pay 1500 and just place it all

    When flushing my RU80 my unit does not allow vinigar to be pumped through the exchanger. What valve do I need to disable or should I leave the unit on with gas off, or unit on and firing with a very low setting on the thermostat. Unable to flush.

    Hi Frank, I’m in the process of doing this myself and I’m very hopeful that this finally fixes the problem (had issues for almost 5 years).
    I was wondering if there’s anything that could be done to prevent this from happening again? I know a water conditioner could be a solution but is there something simpler such as an inline sandtrap.

    Thanks for the video. I'm 80 miles from the nearest road in the Alaska bush and the 75i stopped working. I thought it froze up but I find that unlikely. I shut off the inlet and outlet water valves, open up the two valves we use to drain the unit and blow through the hot water side, nothing, it's blocked. On startup the control panel doesn't light up and there is a buzzing like a stuck solenoid so that's why I suspect this valve. I'll let it warm up some more (it's inside but there is the exhaust pipe) and see if it drips and is frozen after all. Living in the bush I have to repair everything myself and your videos are a tremendous help! I never knew about that paper on the inside of the cover. Does this sound like a bad valve? Any suggestions? Thanks again

    Question, I have an external unit and it works and heats water. My MC-91-2-s has voltage to it but no display. I replaced it and same issue. I connected both to a bench power supply and same issue. Should the controller have a display of any kind with just voltage to it, or is it an issue with the Rinnai water heater?

    How’s it, my tank(r53i) shut off and the fuses blew out. I replaced the fuses and the heater never turned on, both the control panel and water heater. Turn on hot water and the machine does nothing. I replaced the PC board, and still nothing. I’m going to check the turbine today. Never had any issues with this heater. Will the heater not show any sign of power if the turbine is malfunctioning? Confirmed power to the unit is good. Any advice is appreciated.

    • @ThatTanklessGuy
      @ThatTanklessGuy  2 года назад +1

      yes if the water flow turbine is cloged or bad it will not fire the tankless buy you may have a bad PC board. it will show signs of power to it but something might have burned out when the fuses blew. Mike

      @@ThatTanklessGuy mahalo for the reply. I just replaced the pc board and checked everything including the turbine. All looks good. I checked the power to the transformer and shows power, but the secondary/ output in the transformer only shows 4v coming out so I think it may be dead. The part is obsolete now apparently, I ordered a universal, 120vac/24vac. Will this work?

    Question for u I just installed the RSC199in. At startup I noticed a pressure drop on the hot side that I haven't witnessed on past installations. It's not the plumbing bc it's all new and I isolated the tank from the plumbing and it does the same thing. I tested the pressure at the cold side service valves 85 psi and flows strong. Out of the hot side valve it flows strong for 2 seconds and then pressure cuts in half. Could this be the servo valve?

    • @TheBuddylab
      @TheBuddylab Год назад

      If you checked the incoming filter for debris and you checked the pressure at the service port and both are good then it could be the servo valve.

    • @jacobanthony3260
      @jacobanthony3260 Год назад

      @TheBuddylab ya I did pressure is good at cold service valve. Hot side has good pressure when tested with gauge but dies when operating. Rinnai sending new servo valve thanks. Crazy thing is I just got finished with another rsc and same thing. I think Rinnai has a bad batch of servo valves down the pipe line. I have installed problems 30 of these RSC units no problems now get 2 in a row that where bought at the same time

    I have an RL75 with a code 65. Trouble guide says it's a bath fill function error. However, I don't have a bath filler. Does this still sound like a bad servo valve?

    • @ThatTanklessGuy

    Hello Mike .
    Have a very curious case with my Rinnai 98 RU
    When i have only one shower or bathtub hot tap running , the max temp i can get is 36 Celsius. If i open vanity hot tap at the same time, water temp at vanity is 52 Celsius and temp at shower drops to 29 degrees and all valves are located at the same level of the house .It is the same on all levels of my house.
    I reprogrammed my unit to max temp 140. For some inexplicable reason at 135 F and 140 F my unit is NOT firing at all and in use light NOT lit when there is demand for hot water. The max temp setting unit goes to work is 130 F.
    When I go and open bathtub hot water on main level and hot water at vanity in basement, story repeat itself. Small volume demand is super hot at 52 Celsius and big flow is only between 29-36 Celsius.
    Unit has been cleaned and descaled and i got water turbine spinned by compressed air from the bottom of servo valve when i took water filter assembly apart for cleaning .
    I suspect water servo valve turbine jamming ??? What is your vast repair experience tells you ? Thanks in advance for Your advice .Regards.
