      I have a beginner question. For a small 50 litre tank do you suggest dechlorinating the water in a separate bucket or adding the dechlorinator straight into the tank before adding tap water.

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад

      @@sharup7948 dechlorinator is safe for fish double or even tripled dose, (not that you would want to do that) but it’s safe to add directly to any size tank, just before adding in the new water

      @@KaveManAquatics have a question I just received my Taiwan reefs yesterday and want to know how long before they settle down usually. The reason I ask is last night you can hear them bumping into the glass and swing to the surfs like they want to jump out. I check my water parameters and everything is good. I checked the water temperature to see if it was because maybe a failing heater but nope it’s at 80 to 81 degrees. I’ve never had fish act like this. I put stress guard in the tank just in case it’s stress from being shipped. Any help is greatly appreciated

      @@KaveManAquatics reason I ask I have an algea problem in all my tanks. Not sure if it is due to the tap water here. I have used all the same Prime products as you. I use Hakari and API fish food. I clean my tanks once a month. I just don't want to kill the good bacteria. All my filter systems are Fulval 306, and 307. I use the Fluval Aqua clears as HOB flosser filters yo have more crisp clean water.

    I got a question big dog? What's your thoughts on using aragonite sand inside a couple mesh bags put inside of the filter? Instead of using it inside the tank.. Do you think it will keep the PH levels around 8 ? I'm not a sand fan inside the tank but was curious to know what you think if used inside the filter ?

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад +1

      That would work, but its risky, keeping sand inside your filter always has the potential of escaping the bag and ending up in your impeller, no bueno! But I have your solution. Go with crushed coral in a bag in your filter. Same effect as aragonite. It will raise and keep your PH stable. Just make sure you use enough for your tank size and bio load....check this video out, should be helpful - ruclips.net/video/4F6zhccDam4/видео.html

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад

      Start off with 1 bag, wait a few days and test your PH, if it doesnt rise at all add another whole bag and repeat the process. Remember that you want to raise your PH slowly as to not shock your fish.

    You have a beautiful 210 tank and the Lwanda you got is gorgeous, however I need to make a suggestion that will add another masterpiece fish to your tank. Just like the one in my thumbnail, if you can/ want, get a male Exocochormis anagenys for your tank. They get big, very colourful and are very mild, peaceful fish. One of my favourite fish of all time for africans. God bless!

    I’ve kept fish for over 10 years and have never quarantined new fish 😬 that’s bad isn’t it?! I don’t have the space for a quarantine tank and have been super lucky I think. But I’ve never bought fish online, I’m really lucky to live 5 minutes away from some of the UK’s best London aquatic shops so always buy my fish directly from a local store and just bring home and add to the tank after they’ve got used to my tank temperature. Your new fish is gorgeous!

    Hey mate! Was just wondering if I could ask a quick question. I currently have a 40 gallon with Lake Malawi cichlids. I know 40 is a bit small but I have two filters going and a wave maker and they’re all happy and healthy. My question is how many cichlids would you recommend for a tank this size? Because I know you’re meant to overstock for aggression levels.

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад

      I couldnt tell you an appropriate number because as you know that tank is smaller then the min suggested size. 55 is the min because of the length of the tank. They need at least 4 feet of length in order to swim and feel comfortable. The amount of filtration you have on the tank really doesnt matter...its about the swimming space. Even 1 African cichlid in your 40 will eventually begin to feel stressed as he grows.
      Go ahead and upgrade that tank. You and your fish will be much happier 😊

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад +1

      Got you, I say wait a week. Give your bacteria time to catch up to the new bio-load then you can add in another batch. Use Seachem stability or api stress zyme when you add them and you may be able to add them even sooner. Test for ammonia and nitrite a few days after you add them. If levels are still at 0, its safe to add more

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 года назад

      Stress will definitely fade their colors, but many things can cause stress...also you could be buying juiced fish that have plenty of color in the pet store and then they lose it later....if this has happened to multiple fish and you got them all from the same place, don’t buy there anymore.
