Also where do I place the filter? Left/right side or middle for best result? What else do I need? Beginner. Thank you.
@KaveMan Aquatics Hey Kev. This is a really informative video and it makes absolute sense I can’t thank you enough. I would definitely consider a wavemaker, as I know that water agitation is essential for my pleco only tank and the more water agitation the better. I do have a question, I have noticed that my airstone set up has stopped my plecos from shooting bubbles through their gills and swimming upwards for more oxygen. My question is, do I ditch the airstones and switch to a wavemaker or could I use a wavemaker as an additional? Should I also use a wavemaker that is optimised for my tank size or could I just straight up go with a 1500 gallons per hour?
Don't know your tank size so cant say if 1500 gph would be good for you. But make sure the wave maker allows your guys to still swim where they'd like. Yes you can use both the wave maker and the airstone but you may run into a micro bubble problem. The wave maker will blow those airstone bubbles around the tank...Normally after adding a wave maker it provides sufficient surface agitation for oxygen transfer and you wont even need the airstone anymore.
I’ve just added my wave makers and I’m finally happy that my fish are acting how they should be. @KaveManAquatics Haha ! .... I've already downloaded the buildr app, it seems great so far ... I'm still cycling my tank, it's a slow process, lol .... a quick question for you Kev, how many GPH wave maker(s) would you recommend for 90gal tank, tidal 110 & eventually Geophagus & Blue Acara stocked tank Cheers
Hi, just a quick question, my intake is bottom left, but the outtake is on the top right hand side, facing the intake, if I place the wavemaker as per your description, won't they be fighting each other? Should I put it below the outtake? Or do I need to move the outtake to the middle of the tank and face it right? Thanks
Great video as always. I use a combo of a sump return on 1 side and bubbler on the non return side. Reason being I dont like my fish blowing around the tank with a wavemaker, especially as they are small South American cichlids currently. The sump return side blows the poop to the left side of the tank as its positioned close to the glass which causes surface agitation and flows to the bottom of the tank after hitting the glass (150 gal aquarium) so at least I only have 1 corner to vac. Keep up the great work!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You have a new subscriber. I have learned a LOT from your videos in the week I have been watching them. My son wants fish for his birthday. My biggest goal is to keep them ALIVE. lol 😅 luckily we have set up the tank and we have been waiting for me to get things just right before introducing our new friends. 🥰
I have a question. We brought 5 goodish home yesterday. My 2 big ones died over night. I do have some bubbles on the surface but it is NOT creating a foam. The bubbles are popping and the water seems fine chemically. I do use test strips. Since my fish died. I will be doing a 30% tank cleaning. Is there anything I should do to help my other 3 fish survive until the weekend when I can get them tank mates? We HAD 2 TETRA AND 3 DANIO glofish. Do you have any recommendations?
There’s a few Important factors that come before oxygenation like tank cycling. Test your water parameters and make sure your tank is cycled, if not your fish won’t last long. The test strips aren’t the best, you should go with an API master test kit, it’s more accurate and you’re going to always need that in this hobby anyway. Yes do a water change and then test your water. I have a great video on using the master test kit inside this playlist...but when you get a chance you should watch as many videos in the playlist as you can. Will definitely be helpful to beginners in the hobby 😁 ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er

Hi had to show you this! got this from a forum with chilids tanks! Hi there! Welcome to the forum! I have never heard of a fish that actually needs carbon. I think you may be mistaking filter cartridges (carbon) with filter media. Most aquarists don't use cartridges (carbon) because they are only active for 4 weeks and need to be replaced if you actually want activated carbon in your filter. Most people only use it if they are trying to rid a tank of medication or strong oders, ect. Filters do need filter media, you are absolutely right about that. Fish need the media in a filter because it allows nitrifying bacteria to grow, which eats the toxins fish produce and keeps your water safe. But, filter media consists of many things other than carbon. A good example is sponge. Many aquarist ditch the filter cartridge's because the carbon serves them no purpose and replace it with sponge or something similar for the bacteria to grow on. Fish don't actually need the carbon itself, but need the bacteria that grows on cartridges and other types of filter media. :D
@@KaveManAquatics nothing to do with your video all the utube videos show using a canister where they have bio, sponge, and the carbon layered I always understood you needed carbon in your filter
oh ok, no carbon is always an optional thing, never necessary. With or without carbon it shouldnt change your cleaning schedule. And you never want to really clean your bio-media, just rinse it in tank water if you have to. If you are a beginner I highly suggest you check out my playlist for beginners. It'll be very helpful for you 😁 - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er

Awesome videos, no clue how much you’ve helped me. Made a rookie mistake with my first wave maker not realizing I was using a 1600 gph in my 20 gallon. 🤦🏾♂️ Now I have a more appropriate 95 gph pond pump that I rigged with foam to angle towards the surface. I have a hang on back filter and the water flows out towards the front of the tank. I was wondering where would I properly place my pump. I also have a sponge filter on the opposite side. Thanks again for all the help. And may your water be forever crystal clear!
I like how you don't look at your tank when you're trying to make a video. Seriously, I see people doing that and I don't think it's professional. Awesome video, Brotha!
i added a wave maker today and had this video handy. Thank you. My intake is on the right, looking at the tank. Its a 125g reb blood parrot tank with a feather fin catfish. 7 in total, canister filter and black sand with amazon swords.
Wow such a simple fix that my 30 gallon long looks even better. I had my wave maker at the opposite end and I just stopped using it because it only lifted the detritus and made it float. Thank you so much man.
I followed your advice in my 75. I have two of the sun sun wave makers. I put one near the top of the water above my fx6 intake and put one near the bottom on the other side. I face the output towards the right. I also have a tidal 110 in the middle of the tank and a large sponge near the right front corner. I hope I did it right lol! The fish seems to love all of the flow!😃

Excellent video. I no longer do bottom vacuuming by applying this trick. My big aquariums are up to 3 feet deep so this saves a lot of maintenance work. I use very little substrate on top of a simulated rock bottom mat too providing for less detritus on the bottom.
This is perfect i was starting to wonder where i needed to place the one i just ordered, just not sure how id be able to change the direction the water comes out of my filter. I just have to hope this will not affect the baby fish i have as i im afraid they might get sucked in the wave maker.

Haha ! .... I've already downloaded the buildr app, it seems great so far ... I'm still cycling my tank, it's a slow process, lol .... a quick question for you Kev, how many GPH wave maker(s) would you recommend for 90gal tank, tidal 110 & eventually Geophagus & Blue Acara stocked tank
Cheers
@@AlgaeWhisperer Go with the 1600 GPH I have in my shop. Search “wave maker” in the shop - linkpop.com/kavemanaquatics
Hi, just a quick question, my intake is bottom left, but the outtake is on the top right hand side, facing the intake, if I place the wavemaker as per your description, won't they be fighting each other? Should I put it below the outtake? Or do I need to move the outtake to the middle of the tank and face it right? Thanks
I just left this exact comment now, I can't move the return pipe anyway else in the tank apart from where it is in the right hand corner
Say brother man. Took your advice on this method for my 150 gallon mbuna tank. Working excellent! Thanks again! ✊🏼
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Thanks man! Put one in my tank and couldn’t believe the stuff floating around that was “hidden”!! And my cichlids are calmer too!
Kev. Ur awesome. I almost put the wave on opposite side. Ur vids really help me as a beginner.. keep the content comin. Thanks alot
Thanks bro! Will do!
I moved my spray bar after watching this video and now my sand us immaculate. All the waste is moved down to the filter intake. Thank you.
I just stumbled across your channel because I'm starting a 55 gal corner tank with a single oscar. It's my first go at sand for a substrate and watched your video about vacuuming it. Wow! You explain every step so clearly and fully! Thank you for all of the awesome content. Your chiclids are beautiful!

I really appreciated the video on the wavemaker placement. It really helped with my HOB. Thanks a bunch! 🙂
I'm a noob with the wave maker and I was doing it all wrong! Thank you for this!

Awesome, thank you! Glad you've been finding the channel helpful! 😁
@@KaveManAquatics glofish***

I totally agree with this…why did you have to show it to me? Did I say something contradicting in the video?
@@KaveManAquatics nothing to do with your video all the utube videos show using a canister where they have bio, sponge, and the carbon layered I always understood you needed carbon in your filter
Without carbon how often do you need to clean the sponges or the bio?
oh ok, no carbon is always an optional thing, never necessary. With or without carbon it shouldnt change your cleaning schedule. And you never want to really clean your bio-media, just rinse it in tank water if you have to.

@@KaveManAquatics I've watched alot of your videos they are definitely helpful! But how often do the sponges have to be cleaned?
Just a thought have to say I search for YOUR videos if I need info. You are awesome with breaking everything down and totally easy to listen to. Thank you, please keep it up!✌
I appreciate that bro, glad you're finding the channel helpful!
Awesome videos, no clue how much you’ve helped me.
Made a rookie mistake with my first wave maker not realizing I was using a 1600 gph in my 20 gallon. 🤦🏾♂️
Now I have a more appropriate 95 gph pond pump that I rigged with foam to angle towards the surface. I have a hang on back filter and the water flows out towards the front of the tank. I was wondering where would I properly place my pump. I also have a sponge filter on the opposite side.
Thanks again for all the help. And may your water be forever crystal clear!
Got my Sunsun yesterday and the Freesea is coming tomorrow. Thanks for the advice Mr KaveMan!
My pleasure!
I like how you don't look at your tank when you're trying to make a video. Seriously, I see people doing that and I don't think it's professional. Awesome video, Brotha!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Ty so much for the info. The way you explain things is awesome keep up the good work!

i added a wave maker today and had this video handy. Thank you. My intake is on the right, looking at the tank. Its a 125g reb blood parrot tank with a feather fin catfish. 7 in total, canister filter and black sand with amazon swords.
Glad it was helpful! Your parrots will love the flow 😊
Wow such a simple fix that my 30 gallon long looks even better. I had my wave maker at the opposite end and I just stopped using it because it only lifted the detritus and made it float. Thank you so much man.
Glad it helped 😊💪
did you use 2 wave makers for your 30 gallon? did you buy the SunSun 800 GPH
Kev, you’re the man.
Always address my questions and concerns with well thought out videos.
Keep up the good work my man.

You're the best aquarium dude on RUclips bro.
I appreciate that, Thank you! 😊

Can’t express how helpful your channel has been! Got my kid one of those small glo fish starter kits & I’m the one slowly becoming obsessed 😂 I wish I would have came across your videos much sooner! Would bubbles/waves be necessary in a 5 gal? Thank you for sharing your knowledge brotha! 👏🏽
Glad to hear you're finding the channel helpful 😊 Your filter may be causing enough surface agitation but adding an airstone wouldnt hurt
I absolutely LOVE your videos! They are clear, easy to understand and strait to the point. You are awesome! Thank you so much for making these videos.

Thanks a bunch for all the helpful videos you make bro! Great for beginners like me who wanna step up our tank set up.

Excellent video. I no longer do bottom vacuuming by applying this trick. My big aquariums are up to 3 feet deep so this saves a lot of maintenance work. I use very little substrate on top of a simulated rock bottom mat too providing for less detritus on the bottom.
That’s awesome, this definitely helps in less frequent vacuuming. Glad I could help. 😊
