- Your Aquarium Wave Maker Position works best when positioned correctly. There are many benefits of a wave maker. It provides surface agitation, water circulation, and helps calm the aggression in aggressive fish like African Cichlids, a Triple Function. This video will show you how to position a wave maker in your aquarium.
A wave maker in fish tank helps your aquarium water circulation by keeping detritus from piling up on your substrate. Your aquarium wave maker setup is easy to do with the right information.

Do you prefer wave makers over bubbles, or visa versa? I find its difficult to have both because wave makers will suck up the bubbles and create like a million micro bubbles lol Whats your experience? Share it below! And don't forget to subscribe 👉 ruclips.net/user/kavemanaquatics
So the Wave Maker goes on the side where the filter takes in the garbage into the canister but it goes at the top right
Roy Stevenson You got it! It will pull water towards it from the bottom where the flow will pass right by your filter intake!
I have two bumpers but now I want to transfer to a wavemaker instead I have a 60 gallon tank and at the same time my water is not moving but that's not the reason why I want one I just supposed to have a wave maker I'm somewhat I don't feel my tank is getting enough oxygen my tank is kind Overstock also I just before I have a wave maker
@@KaveManAquatics okay so I will put it at the top towards the intake another question if I put it at the will it suck up the sand
@@roystevenson1297 no but it might push sand away from it causing some hills
This guy seriously covers all topics and explains everything to-the-t. There are other videos explaining things but just dont cover the things you need or just dont explain well. KaveMan is the best. He started me off with all the basics and how to setup a tank but also understand how a cycle works and what needs to be done.
Appreciate you taking the time to leave that positive feedback bro! Glad you're enjoying the channel! 😊💪
This man is the KING. I’ve had a tank for a year and a half and it’s never quite been what I want to be. Better believe she’s dialed in now. Thanks brother
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Best Video on RUclips for wavemaker placements. I’m not a beginner and have to say this video breaks it down for anyone to understand no matter how long you’ve been in the hobby. 💯👌🏼
Thanks for that feedback bro! Highly appreciated! 😁💪
Man i really appreciate your quality videos. I can’t believe you don’t have over a million subscribers. Helping me out so much. I just switched from a standard hob filter to a sponge filter thanks to your other video and now I just ordered a wave maker from Amazon. I also ordered the temp controller!
Oh. My. God.
This video has been a GODSEND…. I upgraded my tank and a few of my fish have been gasping at the top of the tank for hours and I’ve tried EVERYTHING. Stupidly in my head I figured having the wave maker on the opposite side of the filter intake would create more oxygen, then I watched this, moved the wave maker to the other side of the tank and just like that NO GASPING FISH! Thankyou for this, your videos are so helpful!!!
My pleasure! Glad I could help!! 😁
Thanks all great advice you give, one of the best on here. I have just got a wavemaker and was unsure about the position, so again, thanks for this advice.
Glad I could help! 😊
Love his clarity in speach. Direct, no bs. Answers the questions as my mind analysis develope uncertainty
Ty so much for the info. The way you explain things is awesome keep up the good work!
Thank you very much for all the videos. I watched each one of the videos and finally got my 55 gallon tank set up correctly without loose of fish.
That is awesome to hear!! So glad I could help! 😊

The placement of the wavemaker made such a huge difference in my cichlid tank ... thank you.

Added a wave maker to my 75 last night and today my tank is so freaking clear! Great info and explanation!!!
Awesome! Glad I could help 💪
Lol... I've been on here typing all kinds of ways to position my wave makers, intake and outtake... And BAM, here is KaveMan to the rescue.. 👍👍... Great video and explanation Brotha... I'm all set for my 75g... . I've subscribed to your channel, positive vibes ✌️.
Jermaine T. Campbell, Sr. I remember back when I was doing the same thing! Lol Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for subscribing! 👍👍
Thanks a lot man I was really scared to start up my first saltwater tank. The wave maker was the only thing I was worried about. Interesting!!!!
No problem, Glad I was able to help 😊
Fantastic channel man !! Been a subscriber for a while now and been in the aquarium game for about 10 years but still learn so much from your videos !! About to get into wavemakers and this video hits the spot on all the information I need !! Many thanks kev 👌

As a beginner getting into this hobby, words can’t express how much I appreciate your videos. Thank you so much and I can’t wait to follow you in this journey! Buying my wave makers thanks to you 💯
Thats awesome! I love comments like this, my entire purpose is to help beginners get started! I remember how hard it was to find good info when I started. So I'm glad I could help!! 😊
In a 125ga tank what size heater do you need
Thank you...that was the best explanation I’ve seen. 🥰🥰
No problem, glad I could help! 😊
Thank you so much for the instructions! Everything you showed is easy and very logical, now I have a clue!
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Decided to switch from gravel to sand about a month ago and I don’t regret. Replaced it with Quikrete Playsand and added four wave makers. The Hygger double head blows from the left to the right and two less powerful, one on each side at the bottom, blows to the left creating that nice flow. Despite having some decorations in the tank, I can barely see fish waste sitting on the bottom. And as you said, the constant flow will keep these serial killers distracted. I’ve learned a lot from your vids. Thanks for the tips, Kev.
My pleasure bro! Glad you're finding the channel helpful. 😊

Thank you so much for doing this video. I’m going to try and move my wave maker to the filter side and see what happens 👍
Great! It’ll definitely help in getting more detritus to find your filter intakes.
This was just what i needed! Thank you for the explanation about the circular motion and using multiple examples! I’ll be watching this again 👍❤️
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Brilliant videos mate very informative 👍
Yo Kev, I watched this video a couple of months ago for the first time. I kept saying for weeks I was gonna buy a wavemaker for my 29 gallon tank. Ive always had an issue with tiny little particles floating around in my tank despite using a Fluval 206 canister filter. My intake is on the left like you point out in this video. I finally bought a small 580GPH wavemaker last week from Amazon. I installed it that evening above the left side intake. By morning.....my tank was CRYSTAL CLEAR!!!!!! Thank you so much for this video and the information you are providing. You prove to me why I love the fish hobby everytime I watch one of your videos. Always informative and your tanks are beautiful to watch. Keep making videos. Please.
That is awesome bro!! Glad you decided to pull the trigger and now you’ve gotten that crystal clear water!! So glad I could help! 😊💪
@@KaveManAquatics my tank is so clear I decided to buy my fish buddy 2 of these wavemakers for their 55 gallon aquarium. I'm gonna set it up exactly like you have in your video with one pointing up and one pointing down on either side. I'm excited to see how their tank is gonna come out after running these for a few days. Thanks again.
You were clear as your water! Thanks. Great vid.
Thanks, Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant video! I've been thinking about adding a wavemaker to increase flow in my tank but was unsure about positioning. You just cleared that doubt for me and explained the how's and why's. Thank you!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
You are the most helpful, accurate and understanding RUclipsr for fish and aquariums in the hole internet and I've seen them all for years! You are the best! Even now after two years you teach me things I've done wrong and correct them like this for the position of the wavemakers in the tank!❤️
I really appreciate that! Thank you bro! Glad you're enjoying the channel and finding it helpful! 💪
Great video man!!
Glad you liked it! 😊

Bro your channel has recently become my absolute favorite on RUclips. I was gifted a 75 and 55 gallon cichlids setup with canister filters, wave makers, lights, stands the whole works and probably 30 grown African cichlids and I’ve been binge watching your videos to learn about the more advanced equipment. Thank you so much for all the advice and knowledge!
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful. 😊

I absolutely LOVE your videos! They are clear, easy to understand and strait to the point. You are awesome! Thank you so much for making these videos.
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Thank you. The video was extremely helpful. I purchased everything that you mentioned in your video. I have two questions: Where exactly did you place your wavemakers on the glass horizontally (i.e. middle, towards the back, towards the front)? Second, where is the best place to place the filter intake on the left side?
My top wave maker is in the middle, bottom one is in the back. Great question. My filter intake is on same side as top wave maker.
Hi there!!
I have a 50 gallon aquarium tank that my mother gave me and in it I have a Penguin Pro 375 filter, a warmer and an Aqua Clear 50 gallon pump. Do I have the right equipment? Also where do I place the filter? Left/right side or middle for best result? What else do I need? Beginner. Thank you.
@KaveMan Aquatics Hey Kev. This is a really informative video and it makes absolute sense I can’t thank you enough. I would definitely consider a wavemaker, as I know that water agitation is essential for my pleco only tank and the more water agitation the better. I do have a question, I have noticed that my airstone set up has stopped my plecos from shooting bubbles through their gills and swimming upwards for more oxygen. My question is, do I ditch the airstones and switch to a wavemaker or could I use a wavemaker as an additional? Should I also use a wavemaker that is optimised for my tank size or could I just straight up go with a 1500 gallons per hour?
Don't know your tank size so cant say if 1500 gph would be good for you. But make sure the wave maker allows your guys to still swim where they'd like. Yes you can use both the wave maker and the airstone but you may run into a micro bubble problem. The wave maker will blow those airstone bubbles around the tank...Normally after adding a wave maker it provides sufficient surface agitation for oxygen transfer and you wont even need the airstone anymore.
Appreciate your passion and care for this!
Thank you bro! Glad you’re enjoying the channel!
This is a very well done and simply explained lesson for beginners like me. Thank you!
Thanks, glad you found it helpful!
Hi, just a quick question, my intake is bottom left, but the outtake is on the top right hand side, facing the intake, if I place the wavemaker as per your description, won't they be fighting each other? Should I put it below the outtake? Or do I need to move the outtake to the middle of the tank and face it right? Thanks
I just left this exact comment now, I can't move the return pipe anyway else in the tank apart from where it is in the right hand corner
I have had African Cichlids for Years, but recently started upgraded to much larger tanks and adding fish. Your videos have changed the game! VERY Educational and Valuable information! You are a great presenter as well Thank You 🙏🏽 - Def want to support you…going to buy some of your shirts.
Thats awesome! I appreciate you John. So glad you've been finding the channel helpful 😁💪
This is Somthing I did not know I was missing, I have wanted to get rid of the bubbles but did not know what to use as an alternative thank you so much your videos are lifesavers
Glad I could help! Not only will it provide the oxygen you need, but watch your water get clearer too 😊
I’ve just added my wave makers and I’m finally happy that my fish are acting how they should be. Thank you so much for explaining it all so well 😁😁😁 I just need to get some poly fil now and some of them bead things to add to my fluval 307 filter then I will be all done. I’ve also cut my feeding in half too. All thanks to you man.
I’ve been thinking about a wavemaker for my tank. Good info and clear explanation on placement in this video. Thanks 🙂

Just a thought have to say I search for YOUR videos if I need info. You are awesome with breaking everything down and totally easy to listen to. Thank you, please keep it up!✌
I appreciate that bro, glad you're finding the channel helpful!
Hey Kev. I kept fish when I was younger and I came back to the hobby in the last year. I’m going to be honest, I thought that a wave maker was a gimmick. But, since I got one, I can’t believe how clear my water is and how little comes out of the substrate when I do my maintenance. Thanks for everything man.
Glad I could help change your mind on the benefits of a wave maker! 😁💪 Welcome back!
Thank you for your great videos. You explain everything so simple for novices like me to understand. 😊

Excellent video. I no longer do bottom vacuuming by applying this trick. My big aquariums are up to 3 feet deep so this saves a lot of maintenance work. I use very little substrate on top of a simulated rock bottom mat too providing for less detritus on the bottom.

Awesome videos, no clue how much you’ve helped me.
Made a rookie mistake with my first wave maker not realizing I was using a 1600 gph in my 20 gallon. 🤦🏾♂️
Now I have a more appropriate 95 gph pond pump that I rigged with foam to angle towards the surface. I have a hang on back filter and the water flows out towards the front of the tank. I was wondering where would I properly place my pump. I also have a sponge filter on the opposite side.
Thanks again for all the help. And may your water be forever crystal clear!
