  • There are many great choices of aquarium fish food in the industry. But most fish food will be missing essential aquarium fish vitamins and minerals. These important nutrients are lost in the production of commercial foods. Its just part of the process of making Flakes and Pellets. When this happens we must supplement the nutrients needed for our fish to thrive.
Unless you're feeding live or raw frozen foods daily (which no one does) your fish will be missing essential nutrients lost from commercial aquarium fish food processing.
In this video I'll share with you all the supplements I use in my African Cichlid fish food and more importantly why you should use them too and ensure all your fish get everything they need!

I use similar supplements. Only I put it all in a squeeze bottle. Basically 2:1:1 ratio. 2 parts garlic guard, 1 part vitality, and 1 part zoo plankton. And I also add 2 ounces of vita chem. Shake the bottle up before each feeding, and add enough to cover all pellets. I feed my boys X-treme.

    Sup Kev,
Got in this hobbie about 2 yrs ago.
Then went high tech planted aquarium co2, lights, and all. Loved the aqua scaping but pm was getting tuff.
Then ran into you channel. Gottta say that ive learned alot. ( what i learned and still learning is that it takes years to balance, stabilize, and master your own aquarium set up. But learning from you i realized how many years of errors. money, & equipment you have saved me and everyone that watches your channel.
    I thank you for that.
Now i upgrade to a 150 gal. tank from a 55 gal. My 55 gal was a community tank but i see all your cichlid videos and i took the risk of turning my tank into a semi aggressive cichlid tank.
LEFT MY COMMUNITY FISHES IN THERE AND THEY ALL GETTING ALONG SO FAR. its been 3 month. Also removed all plants and just left all anubias. Easy pm.
Now im learning your clear water setup for your cichlid.
Bought a fluval fx6 and have your same setup. Except the crush corals because I dont need the high ph. (Yet).
I have never gave thought to food and what they can do for fish color.
So this will be my next course.
My wife never liked this hobbie.
Now she wants to learn everything and she says my tank belongs to her.
My bad for such long review but i never leave a comment or anything. Not the media guy. But i just thought you deserve to hear what a good job you do.
    Also STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.
    CLARO Y PELADO!!!
    THANKS AGAIN BRO.

Kev, I wanted to say thank you so much. My son and I have learned more from your videos, on how to care for our fish, Cichlids and otherwise, than ANY person at any LFS I’ve ever spoken to. They all act like they know a lot, but don’t tell you about anything to get to PREVENT things from going bad. They wait until it’s bad to tell you what meds to treat with. I lost a Porcupine Puffer and a HumaHuma Trigger because of the improper guidance from them. I now know the things I can get to keep them healthy and prevent a lot of these illnesses from happening in the future!

That would be a great skill to have. Unfortunately if there is a way I don’t know of any. The only way I know is just recognizing the species itself. But there’s so many it’s difficult to memorize all the differences. You really have to be trained well to spot a fish and know what species and group it belongs too...I know some but no where near all.

Your videos are so informative! Got to love them. Direct to the point and concrete. I have a community tank and a turtle tank that my dad just bought some african cichlid now because he saw the tank to empty. The turtle loves them and doesn’t bother them. Im learning now about african cichlids and I’m fascinated about them. 3 days ago they stopped eating and I got worried that’s how I found your channel. Yesterday I bought crushed coral and put it as substrate to raise my ph. Yesterday night they ate some, not as much but I guess little by little. Now that I saw this video I bought all of the products that you recommended to see if they increase their appetite. I as well want them to thrive. I don’t know if you will read this since is an old video, but you are the very best at explaining. EVEN WATER CHANGES ☝️ my God. My bank account is going nuts.

LOL So glad that Im able to help! New African Cichlid keepers are my favorite 😊
Raising the PH is definitely going to help them, just do it slowly, no drastic changes.
And they will go nuts for the food after adding the supplements.

However, someome said the challenge we mix them together is how to find the way to feed them since they are different diets. Is it true or it does not matter ? Is there any brand that both Mbuna and Peacock can enjoy and no issue about digestion or floating? Thank you
