I just picked up the D12S - R5M - R5C and couldn't be happier. It was the enthusiasm you and Gene (audioholics) have shown towards Perlisten products that compelled me to upgrade. Very glad I did - the bank balance not so much.
@Dean Kim they're definitely unique, but I haven't had a negative comment about them. The imaging and bass from them is astonishing, I think that's what people take away after a few demo's. I love their 'unique' aesthetic - you definitely know a Perlisten speaker when you see it. I genuinely love them.
It's good you can adjust the settings on the sub itself. I'm always weary when things are app-only (looking at you, SVS) because in 10 years who knows if those apps will even run or be supported. Also I wish they'd stop with the glossiness.
"Maybe the downstairs neighbor is going to start pounding on the floor feeling" at 4:28 into this video review. This is why I was asking about the Neighbors during your Live Podcast.
So after talking with Matt Poes and your review I got dual R210s “blind” and I’m having a hard time adjusting to clean sound for a week still adjusting - I’d say these are Sound Quality focused. 20Hz is so clean there is almost no audible sound coming from subs, I’m getting solid 17hz at 98db in my room…then my family came knocking lol about exactly how you describe “feeling of doing something I shouldn’t” lol exactly!
At $5k, it’s a lot of “pricey” and I don’t have a problem with it because that is the customer they seek. Pretty sure I will never own Perlisten and that’s ok. I plan to leave instructions to my son to use the inheritance for a killer Perlisten HT of his own. Now THAT is going out in style 😉
Shane your review of the Perlisten D215s finally convinced me to purchased two from Matthew Poes. Of course the particularly favorable audioholics review also was a factor. Since Perlisten is the new kid on the block, it gets a lot of blow back from the established pecking order over at AVS sub guys.
Hi Shane, Great video! I was wondering if you could let me know if the driver baskets are casted aluminum or stamped steel? I think you can easily see them through the mesh cover at the bottom. Also, are the driver surrounds foam or rubber? Thanks in advance!
Hi Shane, thanks for the review. Any chance you can make a video showing your process to get multiple subs playing nice with each other and the mains? Be it these subs or others, when you have multiple subs there has to be a way to time align them.
My OSD Trevoce 12s are sounding Scary awesome good. Scary like neighborhood may know. Had to put Main Driver facing the side wall and passive radiators, one hitting the back wall or Corner and one facing me. Just 45% Subwoofer Amp knob and my Onkyo THX Atmos receiver at volume 35 will shake the house. Paid $299.
That's funny you always say the demos sound different in person when my house is just rattling with your mic actually picking up the lows very well. I have Dual Seaton F18s down to 3HZ useable and your demos always rock my house.
Nice! I love the idea of being able to source speakers and subs from a single company and have them both be excellent. We'll see if Perlisten pulls me away from Focal one day. I'm looking forward to watching their development. Would love to see more in the in-wall line, like speakers for overhead channels and in-wall subs.
Would you say the sound quality and extension is similar or do you feel one out performs the other? Also, if you had to choose between (2) R210s subs or (4) KF-92 subs which scenario would you lean more toward?
I auditioned these R210 at the the Florida Audio Expo, with Dan Roemer himself doing the music demos (no HT as it's a hi fi audio show). Very nice for music, but at least for music it was no better than my two SVS SB3000. I'm sure they're very good for HT duty, but the price of $4k is in competition with JTR larger sealed subs, and those go deeper and punch harder.
I’d say this is in a completely different category. If you need something with better aesthetics that could go in a living room or a decorative style theater this would be that type of sub. It’s more in line with B&W, Kef, Focal, JL.
Hey Shane would you choose this R210S or the single driver D15S? I only have the budget to purchase 1 sub right now with a goal to add a second sub in the future. I am hoping the D15s has no distortion.
Shane I'd love to hear you review the JL Audio f212v2 subwoofer. Would be awesome to hear your thought comparing that $10,000 subwoofer to everything you've had in your theater. See if she's really worth $10 grand.
You need to add Jurassic World to your demo and Godzilla king of the monsters. There's 5HZ bass in there which will be a real test for home theater subs.
Well you are comparing 2 subwoofers to 1, of course it sounds better with 2. What didn't you like about the d12s? I have heard both brands and currently have a r210s and I'm trying to decide whether to grab another r210s or go with maybe JL or svs in the future
@@stevec.3392 If there is a dealer near you it might be worth auditioning, also the paradigm xr13 is another contender if you are looking for other options
if you came across a fast musical sub why dont you show us music demonstration ? i dont get it. even the homepage says: the audiophil choice - for this modell.
What's the point. The microphone I have to record and the speakers you're gonna use to listen to it. Either over your mobile device or TV will sound absolutely nothing like the real thing.
LOL, as I get older I'm starting to have a tiny dislike for subs that are heavier then 25kgs ... Brands are starting to get ridiculous with these multi-ton subs...
They make really ugly subs, to much going on at the front of the box. To each their own but I wish their boxes were much cleaner looking. As for the value, (and the looks), I would tend more towards the Rythmik's, clean, controlled, deep and powerful. Even RELs, although logo happy, have a slicker look.

I'd probably own a couple if they were matte, flat black.
I do not like all this gloss black either for F sakes.

Another great and informative review Shane!! It’s amazing how well performing both the D and R series are!
I really have a soft spot for your sub reviews. Makes me always wanna try these demos on my home theater.
I love the design of these subs. They're pricy, but with the performance, fit and finish and DSP adjustability, they're hard to beat.
Your review left me wanting to hear them they sound tough I’m impressed.
Thanks!

Awesome video. Keep on keeping on.👌✌️
I like push pull configuration. Its amazing for optimizing bass from small enclosure although requires more powerful amp

Have you covered why you keep the subs in the front and rear opposite corners vs in both the front corners?
They look cooler both in front. But you'll get smoother even room coverage front and rear.
hahahahahah 4:07 that's the audio Reverse Blood Eagle ....so painfully gooooood

Yeah Focal doesn't have a sub up to the standards of their speakers.
They make some beautiful looking speakers and subwoofers

I just entered to win one in a contest entry. I'd love to win one. A little high priced for me but looks to be a premium sub for the size.

I'm looking forward to seeing a DIY video about how hard it is to make this type of sub from Toids or DIY audio guy
Shane, can you explain (in a video) how to setup the PEQ on this?
You have to use REW.
I only care about the edge of tomorrow demo in these sub reviews. This one did not disappoint.
How does it compare to M&K X10+ Subwoofer?
Love the reviews. New subscriber. Quick question though. What is your intro music? This song is awesome!
Love your video

One R210s or one D12s for music playback only. Any thoughts?

Great review Shane. 😊 What an awesome pair of subs. I think for those wanting quality and can afford it wow go for it ‼️😲
My choice go for rhythmic rhythmic sub
I think I’m gonna go the cheaper but just as good route of the REL’s… in white to match my white 805 D4’s…
I think these would be insane for 2 channel music but for home theater I don't know..
Would be cool to know how perlisten subs stack up against rel subs for being fast?!
Good question. I've yet to review any subs from REL in the same price range as the Perlistens. They don't like to loan those expensive ones out.

It's still active.
You read the specs wrong in the beginning. The subwoofer is obviously taller than it is wide, so there's no way it measures 21" wide by only 15" tall.
They make great products but I can't afford them
How would a subwoofer like this compare to SVS sB-3000, Sb-4000, or Rel Predator 1510?
