This band is absolutely astonishing. The way they can make you headbang with their killer riffs and tempo changes, but at the same time flail your body is exstasy and saddness when the melodic parts come in, and all that in the same song. It's pure talent, may they live to make music as long as they can.

i am a relatively new gojira fan but there is a special story about this song.. i was on vacation when a friend played this song for the first time. it went straight to my heart and i got goose bumps even on my head. i didn't knew that my grandmother was in fact dying in that very moment... RIP... it gives me chills every times i listen to that masterpiece
Just became a fan. These guys are so talented. Better late than never. Glad i found them, or they found me. Thought i would never find a place in my heart left empty when Pantera ended.
ha...i felt the same...discovered them in 2006 and have been spreading the word to everyone since then telling them to watch how this band explodes....and it's happening and well deserved too
The section of the song up until he starts singing is very interesting to me, cuz I believe that they wanted to capture the PROCESS of dying. The section tells the story of a person who is in the process of dying, and these are the last few minutes or moments of this persons life. Maybe a patient in a hospital, or someone who had an accident, or someone having a stroke or whatever right. 00:00-00-19 : It starts off with just the claps (?) and that's where this person realises and feels that something is SERIOUSLY wrong, and the hum represents death, cuz the hum is so obscure and you can't mistake it for anything else, so this is where the idea of dying gets in the persons head but he's trying to convince himself that he's fine, and coming up with reasons and explanations 00:19-00:57 : This is where the clock kicks in and more sounds are being added, as the intro progresses, death also progresses and this person is starting to realise that he's dying, and it gets harder and harder to find other explanations to what he's feeling, hence why the clock becomes the backbone cuz he realises that his time is out, and as more sounds gets added and it gets louder, the more he realises that he's dying 00:57- 01:10 : This is where everything else stops but the clock, and this is the exact instance where he realises without a doubt that he's going to die soon, and he doesn't know what to do, cuz how could he? We humans can't imagine death, so he freezes out of fear? Terror? Sadness? Confusion? Regret? Who knows, maybe a human emotion that we have yet to discover. 01:10-02:16 : All instruments kick in and they come in hard, just like his realisation of dying, the instruments represent his thoughts and emotions. Cuz they're just a giant mess and battle, he's feeling all of the emotions above and many more at the same time, cuz he knows his life is coming to an end 02:16-forward : Now he starts singing, and the whole tempo of the song kinda slows down to a very weird, sound? And when he starts singing he kinda sounds "off beat" in a way, it doesn't sound like it's structured with the song and that's on purpose, cuz he's dying! He doesn't care, or is even able to stay on rytmh, he doesn't CARE about small issues any longer cuz he's dying, he wants to give you his last words and these are it. This is how I think they thought when making the song, and I think it adds a whole new dimension to the song. Thx for reading LOL!
@@predatorhunter3169 I agree. This isn't Dream Theater. I don't think they had an actual "story", they didn't calculate it. I think they just felt it, other than the odd-rhythm. They just wrote and excellent song.
The soothing riff from 8:45 to 9:54 is actually a riff played backwards. The original riff is a beautiful melody I obtained by playing that part backwards using an app.
It's actually the intro riff to the next song on the album "Esoteric Surgery", but played down quite a bit. Here's a link to the outro before they reversed it! ruclips.net/video/Vk2OCOUCgiw/видео.html

Listening to Gojira has been one of the major pleasures of my life. Truthfully my favorite metal band. The raw rich beauty speaks to the bone. The passion and emotions of a spiritual being on a human path. Just epic. I hope everyone’s life aligns at some point like this and to listen to this as a reflection of our innermost humanity.
When people ask what its like to take psychedelics, I tell them that its like taking a gojira song and experiencing the song stretched out over 6 hours. Gojira is a trip

This song is just huge musically but I think the deepest part is the lyrics. It's a wonderful, colossal lesson on how Life should be lived to its fulness without drowning it in the materialism of our days, accepting its complementarity with the Death which is the only thing that gives sense to life itself, giving it an end. The fact that we don't live forever should be a huge motivation to walk through our existence in the best way possible.
“I won’t bring no materials in the afterlife. Take no possessions. I would rather travel light” is such a beautiful line Edit: the lovely @R Neumann reminded me of a line I excluded while baked. Cheers my friend!
*I won't bring no materials in the afterlife.* *Take no possessions, I would rather travel light.* Along with masterful instrumentation, the lyrics are just as heavy. Magnum Opus

This band is absolutely astonishing. The way they can make you headbang with their killer riffs and tempo changes, but at the same time flail your body is exstasy and saddness when the melodic parts come in, and all that in the same song. It's pure talent, may they live to make music as long as they can.

believe it or not. I found these guys while i was cleaning and had the comcast metal channel on. You don't find Gojira. Gojira finds you.
00:00-00-19 : It starts off with just the claps (?) and that's where this person realises and feels that something is SERIOUSLY wrong, and the hum represents death, cuz the hum is so obscure and you can't mistake it for anything else, so this is where the idea of dying gets in the persons head but he's trying to convince himself that he's fine, and coming up with reasons and explanations
00:19-00:57 : This is where the clock kicks in and more sounds are being added, as the intro progresses, death also progresses and this person is starting to realise that he's dying, and it gets harder and harder to find other explanations to what he's feeling, hence why the clock becomes the backbone cuz he realises that his time is out, and as more sounds gets added and it gets louder, the more he realises that he's dying
00:57- 01:10 : This is where everything else stops but the clock, and this is the exact instance where he realises without a doubt that he's going to die soon, and he doesn't know what to do, cuz how could he? We humans can't imagine death, so he freezes out of fear? Terror? Sadness? Confusion? Regret? Who knows, maybe a human emotion that we have yet to discover.
01:10-02:16 : All instruments kick in and they come in hard, just like his realisation of dying, the instruments represent his thoughts and emotions. Cuz they're just a giant mess and battle, he's feeling all of the emotions above and many more at the same time, cuz he knows his life is coming to an end
02:16-forward : Now he starts singing, and the whole tempo of the song kinda slows down to a very weird, sound? And when he starts singing he kinda sounds "off beat" in a way, it doesn't sound like it's structured with the song and that's on purpose, cuz he's dying! He doesn't care, or is even able to stay on rytmh, he doesn't CARE about small issues any longer cuz he's dying, he wants to give you his last words and these are it.
This is how I think they thought when making the song, and I think it adds a whole new dimension to the song. Thx for reading LOL!
I absolutely agree, you explained it well!
Mango Meow u thinking too deep
@@predatorhunter3169 I agree.
This isn't Dream Theater. I don't think they had an actual "story", they didn't calculate it. I think they just felt it, other than the odd-rhythm. They just wrote and excellent song.
