LYRICS
Before all things reborn again
You learn the painful breath of time
Cold mourning stretches out your arms
To the mighty warmth of the golden sun
Seem all have gone insane for gold
All was created out of the night
We're all born from the burst of a star
The day you'll come to life you'll realize
Expanding force to life where you belong
And in the winter cold, with opened eyes
You'll find the strength to fight and stand upright
One day you'll walk the world and keep in mind
The heart you've been given in winter time
And through the bitter cold, with opened eyes
You'll find the strength to fight and stand upright
Gojira, Mastodon, Tool, Deftones, Opeth... What a time to be alive
I'd throw in Katatonia, Riverside, Anathema, and Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson to that list.
How could I forget Soen, the group Martin Lopez is now in, excellent musicians and music. They're more than a Tool clone as some would say which is a disservice and Lopez is as awesome as ever, so glad to see him back in music. I met Opeth years ago at meet n greet not too long before he left and he looked bad physically, now he appears to be much healthier.
Might I suggest ghost also
I'll throw haken with the bunch
Yeah. The devil's in the ways we live
There is only one problem with this song. It ends too soon.
musical orgasms are outlawed any longer and it would cause one.
intended actually... makes it that more dramatic. its almost like trap but metal.... melodic metal trap? hmm...
There is one more problem - It is too similar to the Water by Sepultura. Before yoy hate this comment just check this please.
@@regal6679 o.O only thing honestly sounds close is the acoustic guitar. Every metal band has pretty much done some kind of acoustic songs, Slipknot perfect fitting example. But this song dont fall in that cat. either cuz there is a metal drop in it. its a hybrid piece. Water is a good song though glad you mentioned it.
Right? I would say the same. I was born in winter and it described me. It feels like me.
Discovering Gojira in 2020 & going back through there discography, is like a journey through out space & time.
Same here idk why I never gave them a try but I did now and love them
Agreed, and I'm so fucking glad I found them
While riding on a flying whale!
i’ve been doing the same. great band
Wow man where have i been...this reconfirms my faith in music
Before all things reborn again
You learn the painful breath of time
Cold mourning stretches out your arms
To the mighty warmth of the golden sun
Seems all have gone insane for gold
All was created out of the night
We're all born from the burst of a star
The day you'll come to life you'll realize

@@MarcelReuling Born in Winter was released in 2012. Only the music video was released in 2014 :)
Perfect...
Appreciate you.
Thank you!
shouldn't it be "before all things REBIRTH again"? I think they botched the grammar lol
I’ll be honest, I thought this was just some generic “hardcore” band, but Jesus was I wrong. They create some heavy and amazingly complex and almost alien sounding music.
You thought Gojira was hardcore lmao? That's insulting. They're progressive metal, always come with something original and technical.
Sassy the Sasquatch that’s exactly what i’m saying. it’s brilliant stuff that i regret dismissing awhile ago.
they as a group and as individuals you will find, have immense depth in ideology and beliefs. their music is how they put it into "simple relatable" terms
Hardcore lol. That was a genre you know. Gojira is technical death metal.
@@decodeddiesel no its not
"All was created, out of the night
We're all born, from the burst of a star"
Such FURY. Fucking awesome.
much poetry
+Cryogenics12 You know what the funny thing is: That is actually scientifically accurate.
After the Big Bang, there were only two elements: Hydrogen and Helium. When large enough clusters of these elements came together, they formed stars. In the core of these stars, the fundamental building blocks of life were created: Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen, and more.
As these stars died out, some became a supernova and essentially "bursted" these new elements into the cosmos. All of the Carbon in your DNA to the very Oxygen you're breathing and the Iron in your blood came from the burst of a star.
+Cryogenics12 man... Im stoned and feel so crazily good right now after that song. kinda trippin but not too bad.. like a cloud.. wow. haha
+Cryogenics12 So metal!
it's a conspiracy man lol
Gojira is the one of the only groups whose RUclips comment box is so positive. I can't find a single negative comment, it is so refreshing to see.

I love gojira.. Wait..
I.. Just... Can't.. It's physically impossible to be negative here :o
You just CAN'T dislike Gorija songs.
I'll give it go:
Gojira doesn't headline and tour enough! Fucking hell Gojira!?
1:14 you can hear him screaming his lyrics silently in the background. thats perfection!
That's my favorite bit
he did it in stranded too, I love that part.
He does this in almost all of his tracks my dude. Katatonia does this too on their later career albums too.
This song is so beautifully constructed... From the low cleans and the melodic harsh vocals to the atmospheric guitar tones, the godlike lyrics to the perfectly placed heaviness in the song. This is the definition of dark beauty right here
Well said.
Could not have said it better myself.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the shooting star
Kendrick Foo
Kendrick Foo perfect description of this beautiful song!
And some people say metal can't be beautiful
Nobody says that lol, nobody cares enough to make that oddly specific, random ass statement.
@@eriks1736 Tell that to the Opeth fans who only listen their prog rock albums, always talking shit about their Death Metal albums because to them "it's monotonous and boring music".
I think by this stage in Gojira's career you'd be very hard-pressed to call them Death Metal. If you really ever could.
Death - Voice of a soul made a lot of people change their mind ehe
@@GhostSymptoms There's people for everything,Im a huge Opeth fan, from Orchid to Sorceress, they're amazing at what they do. Gojira are extraordinary on what they do. Just listen to whatever the f*ck you want and stop caring of what other people think. I agree with @Crab Lad, to oddly specific statement, and honestly, who the fuck cares ?
After seriously contemplating to end it all forever, this song ultimately held me back.this song prevented me from chosing an irreversible solution for what turned out to be manageable problem, thus at an epic scale.
This song made me chose to stay here, for my beautiful wife, for my beloved children, for the friends that were happy to hear from me again.
This song made me wanna live. Gojira saved my little live and I am so grateful for that.
And Gojira isn’t done they will likely drop an album this year or next year.
As a person who's been struggling with suicidal thoughts for many years, I was really happy to read your comment despite being a stranger. Made me want to give you an imaginary hug, man.
All the best wishes to you and your family!
Glad you're still with us buddy.
Hope ur still doing well! Rock on

It feels so real, like it touches something most music doesn't.

Say hello to all the wonderful people discovering Gojira after the Olympics opening ceremony 🤘
Hullo folks! Enjoy your dive into one of the greatest bands to do it! 🥰
Ну ,ребята, зря вы влезли, конечно, в этот олимпийский обезьянник, там и так все обблевались и усрались,хотя родились не зимой))))
Welcome, you lovely fuckers!! 💞💞
I knew they existed cause a friend of mine listens to them, but I had no idea they have been around as long as they have, damn.
@@iverr6 Oh yeah! You should hear some of their early stuff (or even Mario's band before Gojira) it's pretty wild! 😁
Listened to AC/DC at the age of 12. Listened to Metallica at the age of 14. Listened to Megadeth at the age of 17. Started to learn playing the guitar at the age of 33. Now, at the age of 36 I'm listening to this and watching the video. And I'm in tears. Good job, Gojira!
Next is Meshuggah
Meshuggah is waiting for you.
Mate you got it spot on. I’m in the same boat, didn’t start listening to these guys til my mid 30’s and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing. I can’t stop listening to them.

Gojira is the type of band that stays for life, u might even forget about them for a while but that influence.... everyone goes back... everyone
Truth has been spoken!
Shrey Chakraborty "u might even forget about them for a while but that influence.... everyone goes back... everyone"
Get out of my head!
+Steve Rouse its true its a nice song, but only because wine is old it doesnt mean its good, its not scotch. wine depends on the year/place the grapes have been harvested and the way they were treated/conserved also the type of the barrel and cork . a good wine from 2014 is most likely better than some from 54' or 67' for example. *flies away drunk after testing too much wine*

I thought that at first too, but then when you listen to it in the context of the album it's the perfect length it needs to be.
This band makes me feel like no other band can, it's cathartic

hahaha yeah...and the same thing for a perfect circle....james maynard keenan must be to busy with his wine production lol ....but the new katatonia album is pretty good too bro (imho)
Wow my top favourite bands here, Tool, APC, Gojira, Katatonia & Opeth. Just missing Mastodon somewhere in there :-P
@Noukz37 Imagine all those bands on the same tour, that would be insane..
Man. this band is so fucking amazing and I don't give a single fuck about metal
So you don't care about metal but you like this? There is tons of metal that is similar in style to this don't be so biased
Don't take it wrong, but metal is pretty generic these days. Of course, there are lots of bands that are pretty good, but that's not the case for all of them
Cesar Diaz there are tons of great bands out you just have to look
Cesar Diaz what the hell? you can literally say that for any genre of music. everything has generic music.
Cesar Diaz metal couldn't possibly be more versatile! I think you need to explore more metal before you make such a big judgement on the genre. Most metal isn't mainstream music because obviously it's not exactly easy listening, so the most metal you non-metalhead listens to is the most stream generic music that's probably what you've experienced, but there is a whole world of metal out their with more sub-genres than i count! Its much more extensive than you probably think
2:19 This is one of those riffs that will literally melt your ears if you don't have a trained ear for metal. Absolutely brutal.
I hadn't seen something that amazing since Tool
dito. crazy. it reminds me so much of tool. at the same time, its no replica. a very decent band. love them!

To be honest this song personally gives me the feeling they were trying to impersonate Mastodon more than Tool.
Navid Javan i think youre right pal
BrokensCam I don't agree, Mastodon is like, drugs. I don't do drugs, but there is this little " psychedelic " thing about Mastodon (awesome band btw) but totally different from Gojira.
Thank you for responding, I understand that your opinion differs from mine, and that is fine, however I was comparing only this song to Mastodon, as I feel there is a more Mastodon/Neurosis influnced present in this song, rather than a tool influence, but that is only my opinion.
+MrKylljoy Mastodons almost stoner metal, and you don't immediately realize how stoner metal they actually are until you watch an interview with them

Calling him a machine would be an insult I think. He puts too much heart and soul into his playing. More like a god IMO
I see this song as a representation of unexpectedly finding yourself going through difficult times and eventually gathering the strength necessary to overcome your struggles.
Joe wrote the song for his yet to be born daughter. It's about being born in a world where people are cold and only care about themselves (born in winter), yet growing up strong. Most people think it's a song about evolution, but you actually nailed it. haha

This song, especially with the last lines, is extremely cathartic to me. Im turning 20 this year: going through life and working on my future, can be really stressful. Thats not even to mention the years of the mostly silent turmoil ive been through in my childhood and teens. Sometimes i just have to step back, and take a breather, and tell myself i can do this. Hopefully I'll come back to this comment in the future and see how far I've come

Whoa.... if Tool was a super-technical metal band this is the kind of song they would make, I think.
And they are not, why?
ChaosToRule
where I live I don't think I'll ever hear Gojira on the radio.
ChaosToRule
Why is Tool not a super technical metal band? They don't play metal, for one. Both bands are technical sure, but a totally different kind of technical playing in both bands.
Some of Tools music is kinda metal but true, they are very different. Both bands are my number 1. But Tool are super technical.
This is simply harder mostly by the the vocals but the guitars also have a more metal sound, while Tool is more of a rock band. Gojira is harder and more aggresive sounding than Tool. Tool are hard rocking in their own right. Both bands are great in my opinion.
The song of all songs. The most 'beautiful' Gojira experience one could ever have.

Listening to this band is one of the best things that happens to my life, their music just puts me in special mood, feels otherworldly
To those pointing out the Triangle, Gojira has been deep in the industry and they know what they are talking about. The clip shows time scrolling, from the beginning of existence to our own existence, this clip is about existence, time, and life. Do you really think the guys would just put the Triangle in a matter of fashion ? These guys don't follow trends, they have a message to deliver.
This song is inspirational, it gives a taste of what perfection is, it's almost scary.
Can't you see they are trying to say "open your eyes"?
The animation is so tight it is like hearing the song with your eyes and seeing the song with your ears. That face part tho O.O
As a metalhead and Muslim, i approve of this song. Swear this reminds me of what Islam teaches. "Before all things reborn again" the day of Judgement. "You learn the painful breath of time" you suffer through the test of time in the world till after time stops which is Judgement day. "Seems all have gone insane for gold" Islam teaches us the fundamental importance of not worshipping or succumbing to your worldly or material desires. "We are all born from a burst of a star" Although in the Qur'an it says life originates from water, everything is also made from dust which is what came after the burst of the sun. Then the last verse just reminds me of Jihad which means struggle in Arabic. Only through Allah, we are given this strength to fight and stand upright against the harsh test of life (time). If you win the fight i promise you, Allah will reward you in the hereafter which is after space and time. This is not the end my friends. As Salam Alaikum wa Rahmut Allah wa Barakatu. (Peace and blessings from Allah may be upon you all.)
No matter the religious differences people may have we can all relate to music my friend
I have no idea why but this song chokes me up like I'm about to cry, beautiful.
"All was created out of the night, we are all born from the burst of a star" my favorite lyric, this is actually true if you think about it 😎
Yeah bro
It’s universal history
@@kerbalscuffedprogram4705 Yea, but it's a metaphor. It means: ''No matter who we are, we all come from the same place.''
This song, this band even, is under rated as fuck.
Powerful and inspiring lyrics that are not at all cliche. Rare nowadays.
its not about the literal meaning of being born in winter, its symbolic
thank you
Sublime. . Un son qui t'envahi et qui t'explose tout les sens.! !!
I have a newfound appreciation for their new stuff after finally seeing them live the other night. Fucking brillllliant mannnnnnnnnnnnn!
Saw them a couple months ago in Asheville. Incredible.
XD I was there as well! The show was amazing!
first time I saw them was in tampa fl. this year with tesseract and was blown away. Hope to see them every year from here on out.
Senior Bacon They are going to be at Carolina Rebellion in Charlotte in may. I'm thinking of seeing that one. Lots of bands I love there.
^_^ Yeah, I'm hoping to get to that one as well.
@@melrun ah mince dommage

GOOSEBUMPS!!! Visually, audibly, lyrically, and spiritually 🤯 Such a work of art!
Gojira has been my favourite band ever since I came accross their music 4 years ago. So powerful and enlightening no matter the song. they make me feel alive
I've been listening to Gojira for years and somehow just discovered this last night. I fell asleep with it on repeat. This could be a 12 minute long Mastodon-like epic and I'd still want more.. Masters of their craft.
Perfect! :') Impossible not to love this band.
u are 100% right.Gojira for Life!

I stumbled upon this band a few days ago and I'm obsessed. This song in particular is my favorite so far. It just sounds magical to me lol and I haven't been much of a metal listener until recently
I was born days before spring, and I feel lucky I can say "I was born in winter". This song just hits different.
Sex education: prog metal style
It’s funny, when I first heard this song however many years ago, I remember feeling late to the party on Gojira. And now they just performed the most badass Olympics opening ceremony in history. And im now revisiting my first Gojira exposure and reliving the good vibes, bros
For me this video adds a whole new dimension to an already breathtaking song. Yet again another masterpiece from Gojira.
