Gojira imo is one of the best bands in modern metal, they have that great combination of heaviness and appealing sound that bands of the past like Black Sabbath and Metallica had. I have showed them to non-metalheads friends and most of them liked them.
They even have a slight KoRn aftertaste its quite awesome just discovered these beautiful peeps :D

Fellow Hoosier here! i saw Gojira open for TOOL for the first time! Gojira just finished a tour and just wanted to be done, but they couldn't resist the opportunity to open for TOOL. Meshuggah was the opener for them. Such an awesome concert. SOAD the day before.
The melodic bridge is insanely good, it takes the whole songs to a new level. I think the best metal has to offer comes from joining heaviness and melody. Rammstein does it, SOAD does it, Black Sabbath does it, Metallica does it, Iron Maiden does it and so does Gojira. Amazing song

It's about losing their mother. They toured that Summer... some of the 2016 shows Joe really let the pain out. I have a line from the song tattooed on my arm.
That opening verse and 1st go of the chorus kills me ever time. “the cure is somewhere in the silence but I’m crushed by the noise inside”. That line articulates so well the feeling of being HAUNTED by dark thoughts brought on by depression. Followed by the plea for help: “don’t lock the door on me”. So emotional. Joe & the band did a fantastic job with this record.
That’s a good interpretation, I feel like the noise inside is our ego and the cure in the silence is the unconditional love of the source
They were loosing their mom during the writing process of this song, I heard

Funny to hear that. Well, I had never seen them live, but I watch the videos, and Joe's voice always seems weaker, worn out in some songs. The truth is that this happens to all vocalists who use screaming as a vocal technique. So, the live instrumental part is fabulous and even more powerful and visceral, but the vocals leave something to be desired in relation to the studio performance.

P.S.
After his death, I found myself in an inpatient behavioral health unit when my suicidal ideations got out of control. During group therapy, we got to play a favorite song or two for the other patients when our music therapist would come. I chose this one. Almost everyone loved it and hopefully I converted a few into Gojira fans \m/

@drealmerz7 z dude i know those songs. I am a big fan of all kinds of metal and music in general. To add, because most of gojira's songs are not in 4/4, it's nice to have some variation. I don't necessarily mean it's unique, however some of the riffs are.
Just because it's accessible doesn't mean it's bad. Or as ypu put it, mediocre and boring.Hell there are many other bands that are worse ( paramore , icon for hire, dir en grey, the pretty reckless) and so on.

Best straightforward metal band in a very long time. I grew tired of prog and djent. There is so much pretentiousness that goes along with being that technically sound. Gojira just wants to rip your soul apart, and then put it all back together again. This shit rocks my socks out of my ass!!

This drummer is incredible though. Metal seems to have all the best drummers these days. Even mainstream radio bands like Slipknot, Tool, and Avenged Sevenhold have or had great drummers. Then you have Meshuggah, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, Lamb of God....
they are quite technical but that's secondary to making actual great songs, they know how to implement that technicality to make great songs, it's never forced

Les gens sont tellement exigeants... Moi je te trouve que Gojira est vraiment fidèle à leur ambitions : Faire passer une émotion à travers leur musique quitte à perdre leur côté très bourrin. J'ai aimé ce morceau dès les premières secondes, peut être un peu moins le passage voix claire dans la 3ème minute, et encore, y'a rien de vraiment méchant.
J'ai hâte d'écouter tout le reste de l'album et hâte de vous voir au Hellfest 2016 ! \m/

So cathartic , have been a fan since "the art of dying" . They are easily the best band to listen to for me nowadays. Their raw passion, work ethic, and loyalty to their own unique sound deserves recognition and I'm glad it's finally coming to that point .

But if you want to get picky about it, Citreon may have built the first mass produced FF but if i remember correctly the drivetrain was actually first used many years before by Daimler with one of their steam powered vehicles around the late 1800's. I'm not entirely sure on the exact model or date though because I've only glanced across such information. But fuck it, who cares. As OP suggests, FF's are a bit shite with only a few exceptions.

I got hooked on Gojira with the first track to "From Mars to Sirius", which may arguably be their best album. I think that if you want the best idea of who they are, listen to "The Link" from start to finish.
