It isn’t sad as much as just part of life. The profound beauty of seeing two friends making music and sharing it for decades; the richness of it is demonstrated in this moving performance. The inspiration, instruction, & legacy they have built for the younger generation of musicians is an example to us all to share all that we have been given w generosity of heart and passion.
How time flies! I saw both of them play this very same piece in Miami Beach a little over 30 years ago. I love how they always make it sound fresh and new. They are the greatest violin-viola duo of the last half-century.
They both got old but to be fair Zuckermann sound is still rock solid. Heard him live one and a half year ago and he still managed to fill the huge Maggio Fiorentino hall all the way to the back where I was
Is not sad, is inspiring the power of will, I’m having a hard time with myself for health problems , until I pick up my guitar and those gentleman shows that limites has being done to cross them Aleluya and thank you for sharing beauty and humor
Argentina.
Definitely helps that they have been "sightreading" this together for at least the last 39years at the time of this recording:) what's amazing is that it still sounds fresh and different, even though they have played it together so so so (so) many times!!
it is because he was playing open strings, so his fingers weren't pressed on the string to vibrate normally. instead, he decided to vibrate on the body for extra resonance out of the wood. hope that makes sense!
I've noticed those notes at 7:26, personally, I think they sound awkward. I had this notice the first time I listen to this duo when they were younger. At first, I thought Zubin must have made the wrong note, but after several later performances like this one, it's still the same ! So they must know what they're doing. I have checked with another duos and they don't sound like this. Anyone who knows music, can you explaine this to me, thanks.
Ricochet bowing. The middle of the bow has some "give" naturally, but the upper middle to the tip doesn't bend. If you start the bow a little above the string in the middle and continue with lots of speed and little pressure, the bow will bounce very quickly on its own. See Paganini Caprice 1 for a good example
ruclips.net/video/t7TodEGLhQQ/видео.html This is my favorite for the same reason that I think this one was better than the old one from 30 years ago. Oh and let me rephrase the irony: "you're the only one" *says one person*
Don't call me ignorant, you should have just asked me what I meant if you didn't understand and then decided whether I was ignorant. Don't be another example of the toxicity that is often present here on youtube. The reason I say that this performance is better than the one from 30 years ago: ruclips.net/video/pAKA3rLENGU/видео.html is because in that old performance they didn't seem to take the music seriously -- the superfluous vibrato was almost patronizing. Though this performance is obviously not perfect and has technical flaws, it has the intention and leaves a far greater impact. It is my opinion that the intention of the music is far more important than technical perfection. If you perfectly paint a terrible seen, it is still terrible seen. Compare this: ruclips.net/video/t7TodEGLhQQ/видео.html And this: ruclips.net/video/pAKA3rLENGU/видео.html And then tell me I'm ignorant, and why. I didn't mean to offend you with my comment about you being one person saying I was the only one who has this opinion, I just thought it was ironic.
Both version are astounding... They were already mature musician in the other version, but just lie a wine of great vintage, they get better with age. Whenever I listen to those two musicians, I have the impression of only one entity is playing both instruments. Like they are telepathically link together.
Amazing playing. I just don't know what to say. These 2 guys are alive legends. It hurts, when I see these legends older and older.... And by the way, guys does anybody know, where Perlman bought that awesome shirt ? Plz, write it down, if you know it. I want one. I need one. :'D
So sad seeing these two legends getting old. :,(
I want to cry :'(
Just be happy that they're alive the same time as you are :)
Was thinking this very same thing.. But they dont just fade.. they still Bloom..!!

Hilary is a good violinist but you Can't compare her to these two legends.
Zubin Mehta's snicker is priceless.
"We're gonna play for you a piece that we've NEVER played before."
Arian Sadrayi - That’s Itzhak Perlman.
@@GH-oi2jf Perlman says it, but Mehta is the one who snickers. That's what Ariana Sadrayi was referring to.
these guys have been playing together since they were children
doesn't seem that long ago
they're still kinda children
Lol
I completely agree with you!!
How time flies! I saw both of them play this very same piece in Miami Beach a little over 30 years ago. I love how they always make it sound fresh and new. They are the greatest violin-viola duo of the last half-century.
I completely agree with you. It is Paradise listening to them play.
Great to see them both together and going strong in 2017.
Capucon
Hearing these two legends play this piece when I was a little boy made me want to play violin
The joy in the guy from the back 🥹
Two friends for life I think, two genius violin players. Love them.
They both got old but to be fair Zuckermann sound is still rock solid. Heard him live one and a half year ago and he still managed to fill the huge Maggio Fiorentino hall all the way to the back where I was
I have loved this tune for forty years played by Zukerman and Perlman. This tune can be alive in them. I love it forever.
Both grandpa's but still young at heart.
Love you pinchas et itzak 😍
Like a very fine wine! They make it look so easy and the sound so beautiful
Richard, I completely agree with you.
was lucky to be there hear this live last week! One of the most memorable night in Carnegie Hall :)
I love them forever ❤❤
I love Mr. Perlman
Is not sad, is inspiring the power of will, I’m having a hard time with myself for health problems , until I pick up my guitar and those gentleman shows that limites has being done to cross them
Aleluya and thank you for sharing beauty and humor
Love those guys. I've seen them both live, but never together. World's best.
Kristen, so beautifully written.😊

Great players and a great Norwegian piece of music…arr.Halvorsen…
I hope to see them play in my life time, hurts to see them aging :(
These men have one soul. God bless them.
This is still amazing after 20years , came from the 1997 version. Mr. Perlman is just funny, and Mr Zukeans mad skills on the viola wow! #violagang
Esses caras ainda arrancam lágrimas dos meu olhos!!!!
¡Caramba!
Bravo.Very beautiful concert.... with my favorite violinist Itzhak Perman 🎻❤️🌷Bravo Maestro Zukerman 🌹
two legends
Zubin mehta, Perlman, Zukerman, they look old. Me too. I love their tune so much.
Zuckerman - long time advocate for the performance of baroque music on period instruments
Look at Zubin Mehta- How beautiful to see them three- Not to even mention the enchanting playing
Wow. That’s all I can think of to say. Totally knocked out!
Me too.

Thank you very much Maestro Itzhak Perlman my favorite violinist 🎻❤️ And Maestro Zukerman 🌹
Brilliant
It’s the music man, they can still play
wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fun to contrast w/ early , early career , great movie of them TROUT on YT.
Well that’s one excellent sight reading

please come to TAIWAN play this song
What a joy to listen to!!
that last note on the viola! vibrating the open string =O
BRAVISIMO!
Oh melody come back from heaven. God bless you
Amazing! Seems like this performance is just as good, if not better than years earlier
Sem palavras 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Better than ever ❤️
Awesome listen both together, they are two really good violinist
Legends never die.
Pinchas vibrated on the body of the violin during last note!
viola**
yea, a big violin
Viola my bad. But I've never seen that before!
it is because he was playing open strings, so his fingers weren't pressed on the string to vibrate normally. instead, he decided to vibrate on the body for extra resonance out of the wood.
hope that makes sense!
though he would just vibrate on the octave higher with the third finger.
Great and respect .. I hope they are foever
Perlman Truly Master Class and Beyond.
Respect !
highest respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the technique for 3:12? I can't get the bow to bounce for that long

If you start the bow a little above the string in the middle and continue with lots of speed and little pressure, the bow will bounce very quickly on its own. At 1:28 it feels like the bassist is staring into my soul...
And the other one is crying:D
❤❤❤
😍😍😍bravoooooo
os melhores violinista sem comentários simplesmente maravilhoso
I liked this one better than the old performance they did together that is on RUclips. Am I the only one?
*Says one person* Why do you think the other one is better? I'm curious.

Two words: BRA VO!!!!
Mestres
so happy to know they are still playing at this age. Gods on violin. Thas is how I'm presenting them to my sons.

Any Chinese bazaar.
Probably custom tailored
😇 legends
Is Zubin Mehta the conductor in the background. He looks quite exhausted
Lewesis Old men performance
Juntos son dinamita
Zubin looks so much like his father!
This is the better version than their younger one. Absolutely in tune, in sync. Of course not possible to sight read.
Well it’s definitely not more in tune than their younger recording but ok lol
wow that was impressive
In my chamber group I'm playing this with a *cellist*
How do we know when the next time they will perform is?
2 Maestri
😢❤
I’m so sad.. All of these great tremendous soloists having white hair together and performing in this age🤧
Think of it the other way,, we're lucky to be able to hear them play still, at such an old age
obviously not what they once where, but the same character is still there

oof god bless
I've been so disappointed at myself when I heard how well they played for sightreading
Ty ^^
I n t e r e s t i n g!
@@VoxsPats i think its because theyve played this a countless amount of time, since they were young. Making this joke funnier.
Just two kids making music together :)
JONATHAN so true😅
6:29
Where is Halvorsen here on the record?
Does anyone know what this is the encore to?
Nobody plays it better and believe me because I looked.
I am applauding at home, don't worry guy
Good one Perlman 😂😂😂😂
Perlman:Oh my strength.....
Zukerman:a little more come on..
Pinchas Zuckermann aka the best altist in the world xD
So embarrassing for me to mess up and go to the toilet at a public concert :/
Don’t see that.....ever.... :>
great masters.Haha,he is wearing his Chinese style shirt.
They say that to this day those white people are still clapping.
Black people are very welcome to clap, if they want to get off their arses and attend.
