My grandparents, during WW2, took in Jewish refugees from Poland, including a baby which would cry all night (probably part of 'The Kinder Transport'). At least two of the adults had their tattoos and had somehow escaped. They will be long dead now, but my grandmother was to meet one of them - a lady - who spoke only Polish and tried to tell her what she had endured, but certainly conveyed, with pure emotion, a story of terrible anguish and severe trauma. I can't help but think of these things when I hear this.
Your grandparents are rewarded in the next world, God sees everything and forgets nothing! Bless them amen
@@ruthietaylor8756 Thank you for your kind comments and prayers for my grandparents.
Your grandparents are truly heroes!
Your dear grandparents are among my HEROES. How courageous of them. Blessings always.

This music is not sad, but it does bring tears to the eyes.
Paul, it brings tears to my eyes as well! Nice to hear from others who truly appreciate such great compositions.
Hhhhh
@@paulwary it is meant to convey what the original tune conveys on the very day of repentance/forgiveness or return to G-d (Yom Kippur)… it is a supplication and the annulling of all vows from the year that has ended and new one that has begun. It is how the Jewish supplicants open the day fast to ask G-d to be written and sealed in the book of life, health and prosperity.
He was born in The Ukraine and studied under 2 of the top cellist in Russia. His teachers said he was a magnificent cellist who can understand and feel the pieces he is playing. As someone who is Jewish and was in the quire in our temple and on Yom Kippur and sang Kol Nidre along with the cantor I understand the beauty of this piece.
Thank you for this, Craig Wolf!
Mischa Maisky was born in Riga, Latvia, not in Ukraine.
In "The Ukraine" was born a jew whose name is Selenskij and who names streets after Stepan Bandera and allows that in "The Ukraine"'s army are worn symbols of the SS. If Selenskij were not jewish, the whole world would be disgusted by "The Ukraine". Try at least to be aware of these facts, when you pray the Kol Nidre.
@@epitimaiosZelenski is saving Ukraine and Europe from true fascists who are Z and V bandits of Mr Pu
The two top cellists are Rostropovich and piatigortsky right?
This shreds my heart into an infinite number of pieces. Bruch was my parents' favourite composer, I recall my father playing compositions by Bruch on his violin....the music and memories sad but oh so beautiful.
oh wow! I love it .I've been sharing this for Yom Kipur for Sunday September the 4th .I started with the Cantor version All Jolson's version from the Jazz Singer, the first talky
Thank you. G-d bless you all....
ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes
I love this music so much. Mischa Maisky is amazing!
One of the finest compositions of Max Bruch.
I heard it for the first time on All India Radio program in 1990s on Sunday night at 10 p.m. performed by probably played by Maestro Pablo Casals , if not mistaken.
For me, the cello connects this piece to my heart.
I have been listening to interpretations of this most sacred piece of music for over 75 years and Maestro Maisky's performance is exemplary and truly touches the soul. Thanks so much for posting.
I'm not Jewish but I listen to this often, because I honestly wonder if this performance can ever be surpassed. Thank God it is preserved for posterity.
It brings tears to my eyes to hear my pieces still being played so beautifully after all this time. This is the joy of classical music.
lmao be like someone trying to fake being max bruch and commenting under this video
@Max Bruch - I love ❤️ ALL your musical compositions
my mans must be speaking from the grave.
Lmao he died in 1920 but he do be commenting tho
Umm Bruch loved during the romantic period, not the classic
The orchestral arrangement, accompaniment and interpretation is also excellent and adds wonderful depth and feeling.
So deeply moving, especially in these times. Beautifully played. I love it when the key changes half-way through.
Mischa Maisky is a true master
Finally, a version of the Kol Nidrei with soul.❤
I recommend Yuri Bashmet's viola version, it is so excruciatingly beautiful music.ruclips.net/video/qHggzdHJQDU/видео.html&feature=shared
As a person outside of the Jewish faith, I understand the gravity of this piece, and its meaning. Incredibly powerful.
Beautiful comment Colin. As an atheist Jew, on Kol Nidrei night each year when this is sung, I very nearly feel some kind of spiritual connection to something I cant explain.
Bruch himself was outside of the Jewish faith - he was a Protestant with no known Jewish ancestry - yet he produced this wonderful piece.
@@MrBoybergs: Sir, perhaps you might open the door of your heart and bid that spirit welcome? Who knows what joys it offers.
Can't help but remember our beautiful Jacqeline du Pre every time I hear this...
And my mum who loved Jacqueline Du Pre as well as this beautiful music
Yes, we can´t forget her !
I have the same
She was the best. Absolutely no ego...may her memory be a blessing forever.
Nowadays we have Mikyung Sung (and I hope she plays this with orchestra someday, but here with her mother): ruclips.net/video/VjGqcSGGPfU/видео.html
Thanks for posting! This is so fabulous for people who can't afford to belong to a Temple and/or attend the high holy days.
Why don't you try? Maybe it'll be good for you.
Underrated composer. Listen to his symphonies and violin concertos to be captured.
Camil Moujaber ;
you are fully right!!
Also his wonderful Scottish Fantasy for violin and orchestra.
@@alexleach6307 And just about everything else he wrote. Bruch's music is gorgeous!
My favourite composer..his melodies and phrasing are heart breakingly beautiful
Beautiful performance of Kol Nidrei. Listen also with Cello og Violin. !!
As non Jew had i the possibility to sing this Song the day bevor JOM KIPPUR in Switzerland. This song is own of the best Song i know untill today. SHABBAT SHALOM to all JEWS.
As a young boy way back in the early '60's I listened to Kol Nidrei's version performed by Il Musici. It was a 45pm record I turned many times. The record got lost over the years. Very happy to find this version on RUclips.
wow..beautiful music and masterly interpreted!!! Misha Maisky's playing touches my heart! Thank you!
So beautiful I have no words for this.
So touches the heart and soul!

Heart wrenching sounds, so beautiful.
The meaning is 'all our wishes', music carries us ALL into a better world, this piece, sacred and holy performed is tearing our souls into pieces ! impossible to keep calm !
All vows. Not wishes…not at all.

My great, great , great ,great Uncle was Max Bruch.

Actually?
In my book, he is one of the greatest composers and you have every reason to be proud of him
Yeah yeah and what have you done in the music line. turned pages for Maisky even ?

OMG!!!!!! Breathtaking!!!!
Beautiful and touching.
A beautiful work and performance, starting in a reserved manner, then opening up at 5:16 into a heartfelt declaration.
I f'n love that part, pure eargasm
JAAAA

Very Touching! The essence of human being.
Exquisite performance by probably the greatest cellist since Du Pres. Just breathtaking.
For the record this is Bruch's version of Lewandowski's arrangement of the Kol Nidre used in synagogues on the eve of Yom Kippur all over Western Europe from the mid19thm century.
gorgeous...gets me in the spirit or the holiday...introspective

Einfach wundervoll!

fantantisch wat Maisky doet. BRAVO !!!
Mischa is the maestro.👌
Magnífico, gracias.
This composition breaks me to my core.
C'est magnifique bravo.
What a great performance, so heart felt !........beautiful xx

@@noga7107 Veh ce que est Tres etrange.. it appears Bruch was not Jewish... as per my research above. Perhaps Meistro Maisky is the grandchild of a mythical Jewish Bruch , the Luftmensch :-)).

@@noga7107 I will try to have a good week and year too even though your message makes all my Anglit go backwards..!!!
@@noga7107 I thought Katz had it all mixed up but it seems not so. The Wiki article on how his music was suppressed by Amalek is most interesting. Ok so I have a version of this, a commercial recording on the Saxophone by Rousseau. It is not from Ytube, it is from another form as it were . If you tell me where to send it, I can send a copy . Or you can find Yvonne F at Yad Mord, Hof Ashkelon and ask her for a copy as I have sent one to her surely. . Or she might have deleted it if she does not .like classical Saxophone music. Who can say. ?? Offer remains open.
Elke keer weer genieten! Sialom!
A protestant composer arranged a Jewish melody with incredible tenderness and deep respect. Burch's music sings.
