Ladies and Gentleman, please put this unbelievable for human standards music at your earphones and go either at your garden or balcony all alone one silent winter late evening when sky will be partly lighted by moon while heavy clouds are slowly moving and leave your self looking this sky hearing this music...The unique feelings you will receive will be never forgotten not only to this life but surely also beyond of it...

Same here. My dad passed away in 2017. At the end of his cancer disease he asked my little brother to play the Tannhäuser Overtüre at his funeral on the organ because Wagner was his all time favourite composer. He did it with only 16 years of age. It's hard every time I listen to it.

I'm coming to this performance after watching a stirring performance of this piece by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan... also on RUclips and obviously a very old video. This first thing that strikes me is women have been liberated! They now can sit in an orchestra playing instruments rather than sitting in the audience looking pretty and listening to men play this music. I have to tell the truth though that the von Karajan version was a more powerful presentation... amazingly his eyes were closed for the entire performance. I was afraid he might fall over, but his conducting was dynamic and the orchestra responded beautifully. Some of the difference may be the setting... his in a hall designed to show off and orchestra while here in a church. While a beautiful setting it must be more difficult to capture sound. Nice there are so many options available through RUclips... and I love this orchestra... they have saved me during Covid.

If you want to see more of the Berlin snippets feel free to buy a ticket to the Digital Concert Hall, that is kind of the idea behind it. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony is a Radio orchestra, therefore differently financed and able or in some way even intended to share music publicly. There is no shame in paying (affordable) money to listen to highest quality music...I don't know why we all expect everything to be for free

This by far is my all time favorite 14 minute song. It may be my favorite classic piece for that matter. It is so beautiful, so complex. Passages that are simple and mind soothing. And passages that are as comlex as music has ever been. The musicians have their work cut out for them, particularly the violinists.

Wagner is a genius but Bach as well. He manages to cross craftmanship and emotion in a perfect way, this is astounding like the initial choruses of both Passions for example.

I’m a fan of both composers for different reasons. I like Bach (especially his fugues) because of the counterpoint and genius use and reuse of motifs and themes. The beauty of many of his works lies in the analytical.
I find Wagner’s overtures and operas beautiful for their grandiosity, emotion, and sheer emotional heaviness. His themes are simple and piercing, and the orchestration of and around those themes is spectacular and perfect.
