This is one of my favourite concertos. I like performances of Rostropovich and du Pré, but this one joins the list. The sound of orchestra is fresh and crispy. I can hear all instruments together, at the same time each of them alone. Mischa plays as well as he looks. Many thanks for publishing!

Because Bach set it at 84. Misha played it at 84. Except of course he slows down at the end of the first third and some over the top rubato in the 2/3 runoff. I like the interpretation though. It was written simply so that students could play it - it is up to us to add more flourish ;) plus there are so many directions you can take that piece! @@susannagroppello751

The Warsaw Philharmonic is one of the best orchestras in the world. Gorgeous sound, precise technique, and wonderful emotions expressed. (The cellist is not bad either.)
I love the Filharmonia Narodowa! Ever since I heard Johannes Moser play the Elgar Cello Concerto I have been listening very often to both Johannes and the Philharmonic.
I know what you mean. You know he's aged, but just watching/listening to him, he's more vibrant and more sure of himself. It's really exciting. I enjoy listening to Yo-Yo Ma, but something about Maisky that just turns me on. Either is old enough to be my father.
Since this is my favorite cello concerto, I have listened and enjoyed many, if not all the best cellists performing it. All had something special to add. Maisky is the closest to my mind to play it as Dvorak would have imagined it. All the passion, his loss of his love is included in Maisky's interpretation. Bravo, bravo.

Wow! Maisky again posting himself as the best cellist of our tines. Unfortunately underrated by arbitrary "best cellists" in the web. But his cello, is very strong but at the same for which he has been critiqued) the interpretation is flawless and the cello is the the most important and instrument as in all concerts for an instrument it is that one that takes the lead. Yoyo Ma, the top rated cellist wherever yo search in the web is the umber one, and I think he is great, but Maisky deserves to be the number 1 cellist as his powerful cello takes over whatever piece he plays .

Excellent performance. It cracks me up to see the difference in bow tapping (applauding) from the violinist and the violist at 46:34 is quite different. Violinist super excited, the violist is like... meh!

For me Yo Yo Ma is the epitome of cellist virtuosos of my generation, I did have the privilege of seeing his performance live
