      I can't be bothered to listen passed the opening and the high statement. He is slightly under tempo ok, so I thought I'd be hearing pure polish and expressiong, but he can't phrase the opening octaves in their preparatory sense, he plays the high melody OUT oF TUNE and he bores me already! Listen to Perlman or Heifetz, or BEST, D Oistrakh.

      @Dano Zakerios I somewhat agree with PJ's assessment. At lease the start of the 1st movement is not in sync and out of tune just a tiny bit (not sure if everyone can hear that!). But MV got better along the way and played beautifully. Still not my preferred version. Beautiful, moving performance? Yes, but the breath and the drama are lacking comparing to Perlman or Oistrakh.

    • @germangarciamartinez4097
      @germangarciamartinez4097 3 года назад +6

      Has anybody notice that the tempo is pretty much lead by Marek, the director and not MV himself.
      I can't listen to Oistrakh version anymore (I would love it if MV's version didn't exist ykwim).
      Even though I've listened to Heifetz it feels more robotic, very perfectly timed which in my opinion let's you feel the music 2% worse.
      I feel Maxim Vengerov's sentiment and understand what he expresses more than Heifetz.

    It's a shame that Beethoven only gave us one violin Concerto. This and Paganini's concertos are the best of all time. I often wonder what it would be like for these composers to hear their music being played by the likes of Vengerov and Menuhin, and also for them to see beautiful women playing their virtuosic pieces. They'd think they were in heaven and get a fresh burst of composing inspiration. When you see what beautiful music is created on earth, it makes you wonder what will be created in heaven. Earthly violin music so often embodies an eternal sense of longing. It's like the sound of the kokako.

My Daughter played it also successfully and because of that I can say that Maxim Vengerov has revived the beauty of this music in Beethovenian way and style - from one side playing in a very controlled manner and in the same time very spontaneously with all Beethoven's all indications. Vengerov is a master of his instrument, and a very deep thinker as well. His treatment of the major concertos reflects a mindfulness and contemplation that few display these days. Fast tempos and brilliant gymnastics are a great place for a shallow thinking player to hide his/her lack of comprehension.

    This concerto, along with the Sibelius one and his solo playing of Bach's partita no. 2 (a presentation with Patrice Lare) are one of the BEST recently recorded presentations of Vengerov! Never fail to cheer me up or simply make me feel better about life, letting my imagination fly with whatever I'm listening.
    To be honest I'll never understand why people who do not appreciate Maxim Vengerov very much or even like him or his playing come into videos where he majorly appears, only to complain about him ( his playing, his emotional range, his facial expression or whatever) or to compare him to other violinists. The world is wide enough for everyone to like what they want to. It requires -in my humble opinion at least- much more effort to watch something you don't like and then complain about it. What a boring way to spend time on the net!

    I love this concerto and play it myself Vengorov is undoubtedly one of the greatest violinists we have in the world today. I very much like his interpretation. Like others noted the tempo is ax little slower than say taken by Perlman and Barenboim. But I like it both. With a slower tempo some of phrasing becomes more heartfelt, while in other parts a faster tempo works better. My own preference has to do less with the tempo and more with the tone of Vengerov’s interpretation. Often I think he does not follow the dynamic markings of Beethoven, often he is louder than he should be in my opinion. His intonation is incredibly accurate, but his tone is often too bright, a more velour-kind of tone would be more beautiful and express what I think Beethoven meant. The cadenzas Vengerov chose are beautiful but the more usual Kreisler cadenzas are I think the best ever written for this marvelous work.

    I’ve taken a several year Beethoven break, knowing I would return. What an absolute privilege and joy to hear this for the first time! I’m afraid Vengerov may be responsible for making me once again addicted to LVB. This performance is so tastefully mature, so balanced between expression and technique, and so particularly intimate! Vengerov’s supreme confidence is not in any way diminished. As much as I have always been in awe and loved his playing, I actually think I prefer listening to this later performance.
