  • In this video I briefly explain the benefits of creating a DIY custom chicken coop design using pallet wood and other recycled materials you can find for free or at very low cost. Using pallet wood is a popular method for building sheds, chicken coops, outdoor furniture and many more but a lot of these projects can require dismantling the pallets, so stick around to the end of the video where I explain the most efficient way (in my opinion) for retrieving intact pallet boards for project use.

This was so very needed for me to know about the 4×4 block to get nails out. Thank you for sharing your wisdom

That block tip is going to be really helpful! I was using a crow bar and hammer to remove nails individually 😅

I'm just finished breaking down twenty-five plus pallets and now just starting to build the base. I'm still going to be in it by about five hundred but if it wasn't for recycled material it would be over a thousand easy. I bought a similar pallet buster and worked great.

Thank you very much for the idea with the 4x4 block I've never seen pallets torn apart that way before I'm going to try it tomorrow because I have a stack of pallets out back that I have been trying to pry apart by hand with a crowbar hammer and flathead screwdriver which is very frustrating.

I just tired it and I’m amazed! It works great, the only thing is I noticed most of my pallets were made where the nails extended past the wood and were then curved and hammered back in. So the block method didn’t work without snapping the boards, so I’m a little sad. Still, I’m going to use this method on whatever pallets I can!

3:05 Thanks for great idea how to disassembly europallet by placing a wood block under it. I'm building chicken coop too and was scared how long I spend on single one using crowbar.

No nesting boxes? Put a table across the back with roosts above and sweet pdz on the top of it. Put nest boxes below table.

I'm a bit late finding this but it'd be so helpful if you could explain how you manage to get one pallet on top of another (vertically). Pallets are so heavy and I'm having trouble convincing my husband that it's possible!

I love the way you just good ol jumped on the pallet board to separate the wood, this is what i am going to be doing....and I need a lot.
I even bought myself a reciprocal saw, but your way is simpler.
Nice chicken coop.....I am going for something similar

How many pallets did you use?

16 pallets for the frame, around 60 total counting the frame and the boards used from other pallets.
