With seed chosen and shown in two previous videos and sweet peas also sown, now I put all this months seeds together and decide how to divide them up for sowing through the month to help spread the load, then I sow this weeks seeds.

Yes then Steve 👍👍👍
Cheers Laa...Steve...😃
Another interesting & informative video Steve 👍. He is well organized with his seed sowing. Keep safe, warm, well and happy gardening.
Thanks David, I have to be organised with something, everything else is a mess 😁😁...Steve...😃
Great to have a playing to look back on, thanks Steve. You make it all sound so simple. I guess it is when you know what you're doing. You're not only a good veg gardener but a very good teacher.
Thanks Pat, that really means a lot...Steve...😃
Hi Steve, great video on getting organised with sowing seeds & lots of advice too, thanks for sharing & take care 🙂
Another fantastic video Steve!
Cheers Buddy...Steve...😃
Howdy Steve!🙂 So glad I came across your channel because with each video I learn something new that I need knowledge of. Like your advice on how to stay organized. Thanks!🙂
Thank you Valorie, I'm so glad ou have found it useful...Steve...😃
👍
I'm pleased to see you're sowing shallots this month Steve, I had sown mine earlier and were growing nicely until the cat decided to chew them off ! so I think I may just bite the bullet and sow a few more..
My Cats love to play with my seedlings, I even featured one I think last year because he destroyed about 20 varieties of flower seedlings, the cat is on probation now!...Steve...😃
Great video again Steve
Many thanks Barry...Steve...😃
Great video thanks Steve. Take care
Thanks for watching Sandra...Steve...😃
Hi Steve I enjoy these videos and now I'm getting my weekends back I now need to get more organised with my sowing , seeing different channels sowing seeds gives you so many ideas 💡 for the season ahead. Stay safe Bill and val
Yes, we all have thousands to sow over the coming months...Steve...😃
Very useful stuff Steve. Cheers. Neil
Thanks for watching Neil...Steve...😃
Thanks Steve love your organisation of seed sowing, definitely will be taking your advise and sorting mine out this week, much appreciated 👍
Great video Steve. Very helpful tips especially dividing up the seed packets week by week. Much more manageable 👍🏻
HI Jo, I try to break jobs down into many small parts, that way I always get the satisfaction of knowing I have completed a list of jobs in a small space of time...Steve...😃
Hey y'all, I looked at all the fancy plastic little seed size boxes that fit into bigger boxes to organize the seeds. Many of the women are showing these and show links in the descriptions of videos. Then I looked at the cost WOW enuf of that. I bought quart size freezer bags and labeled with a sticker. Took sandwich bags for putting the seeds in one bag may have 4 basil another 3 lettuce and another 3 green beans and so on. During the winter I line up the bags with the first seeds of the year all the way back to the final ones.
I bought the Staedtler lumocolor permanent garden markers they do not fade or wash off. At the end of the season all the white stick go into pail warm soapy water wash wipe dry and into the correct freezer bag along with the seed no more looking all around.
My schedule is in my iphone Feb 7th start 300 onion seeds and this has an annual repeat no end so every year there it is pop them in and Bob's your uncle. Take care and as always thank you for the video bye for now
That is a smart way of organising, I like the phone reminder idea also...Steve...😃
Looking very very organised there Steve. Fancy coming sorting all mine out for me pal? I know your only putting on a show for the camera and it's really mayhem in your man cave!!! 😁😁
Sometimes it is mayhem, especially when I try to get too much done in one go, that is when the polytunnel starts to look a little messy and filled with half done jobs...Steve...😃
Great vid Steve👍
Sounds like a great idea for a playlist. There’ll be loads of top info in there for sowing seeds
Cheers Mark, and on a side note nice one for supporting Eli and Kate too...Steve...😃
Great video 👍
Cheers Thomas...Steve...😃
Hi Steve just found your channel, starting with your more recent post. I missed my Jan seeding due to ill health , and have a lot of catching up to do. Having missed January I decided to splash the cash and buy in grafted cucumbers and aubergines to be delivered later in the season. You have really useful tips on all these different seeds and plant types. Our last frost date is mid April, and being coastal we don't actually get many frosts. But last year we had frosts into May and ended up with racks of seeds in our kitchen /living room and parafin and candle heaters in our home garden small poly tunnel. We are prepared in case of late frists again this year.
Great thanks Steve! Just had to resow aubergines in the propagator the first batch didn't germinate. Leeks and onions through and ready to move on. Today been potting on alpine strawberries grown from saved seed in August and calendula also. It's so good to see green shoots in the cold frames and the ground.
It is truly magical at this time of the year...Steve...😃
This is so useful. I'm a 'random' sower and really not methodical putting seeds in. That's how I end up with too many seedlings and no place to put them, Lol. I'm going to try very hard to follow your advice this year. So I really appreciate the idea of a playlist to keep me on track! Growing at 5400' elevation in the high desert USA, but your content still works for me :).
Hi Paula, I'm glad it is going to be useful for you...Steve...😃
Hi Steve, just recieved my 20 container wise seed module trays from Patch Potatoes that you recommended 38.50 used but in good condition as opposed to buy them new for 106+ direct. Thanks for the tip, I'm very happy now 😁😁😁🌱☀️
Hi Fletchy, all of the containerwise trays are blooming brilliant...Steve...😃
Getting excited about seeds now
Hi DN, I'm a little bit more than excited !!...Steve...😃
@@GreenSideUp We can tell. All good 👍
Great video! You’ve answered so many questions. I am always unsure what to do with the seedlings once they’ve germinated in the propagator.
Thank you Jan, I'm glad you got something from this video...Steve...😃
I’ve started my early things and ready to organize the rest. Lol, gotta work in this years seeds!
Could you remind me about what frost date you work off of for outdoor planting of your starts.
Thanks so much for the time you give sharing your methods!
Hey Steve, thanks for another great video... The flower seeds that you have sown in the large container and are going to put outside (in the cold.) About how many weeks do you leave them outside? And do you put this container back inside to germinate? And when they have germinated, do you immediately put this box outside again (in the greenhouse)? 👩🌾Greenthings Holland
HI Estella, I put the tray of Larkspur out to cold stratify them for a couple of weeks, this makes the seed think it is winter. After that I will takle them back into the tunnel for some gentle warmth to make the seeds think it is now Spring, so they wake up and germinate...Steve...😃
Greetings! Vid is perfect. Really took away alot of wisdom from you I can utilise in my allotment here in London. What was the purpose of sowing certain seeds and putting them in a freezer bag outside? I think you said "stratification"? I've been growing some perpetual spinach indoors for a month.. wondering when should I put it outside? I do have coldframes, a greenhouse and a polytunnel. Any suggestions?
Some seeds need cold stratification to help them germinate. This is chiolling them into thinking it is winter for a couple of weeks then I bring them back into the polytunnel for a little warmth, the seeds think the weather is warming up and it is spring, so time to germinate...Steve...😃
Another fantastic, straightforward vid, thanks ao much!!
But what if I've already seeded most of those & propagated in unused/recycled fish tanks outdoors kept covered under sheets of industrial plastic & some have sprouted through?.. job done! Although is looking like I got a bad batch of swede seeds (they looked crushed and were literally tiny & same thing occurred last year, everything came up except them!) so had to order local organic swede plugs, which came on a treat 🙂
Question is, shall I continue my re-sow/succession method again in 6 weeks.. very early starter here in the south by the sea, had my seeds mostly in by 30/01 x 🙂
Sounds like your supplier might have a bad batch of swede seed, you should let them know so they can test and maybe take them off sale...Steve...😃
@@GreenSideUp appreciate the response Steve, thanks!
Shall get on that today & let the supplier know 🙂
Steve what was the plant you said to grow with tomatoes...ta..., i couldn't quite make it out thanks. Keep the show going
Tagetes, type of Marigold
@@robinroberts8996 thanks for that Robin much appreciated
Great video (as usual). After pricking out the seedlings, what do you do with all the leftover compost? Can it be topped up and used for the next batch, or should it be discarded into the compost bin?
Hi Old Daddie, I tend to recycle it into a trug, the same as I do with the leftovers after sieving compost, the latter goes into the bottom of my dahlia tubs when I make them up and the recycled compost gets mixed in with the top part of the pot...Steve...😃
You doing brocolleto again? Or are you switching type?
I probably will grow them again, but later this season going into Autumn again, I still have a ton of those seeds...Steve...😃
Would you mind if I ask where about you live?
I am in Cumbria, the north west of England...Steve...😃
I know you're a chef so you cover the cooking, but, who does the household cleaning, do you pay someone. I ask this because your allotment needs a massive amount of time to take care of. I've never seen you answer a comment on here, so I don't really expect a comment from you Steve.
Hi Kath, we, like most people could not afford to get someone in to clean for us, I do everything at home,. At the plot I spend 5 days a week, sometimes six for 1-2 hours only, this increases to 2-3 with lighter mornings/nights, but I work fast and hard. Many plot holders pack in on their plots in September then return late February/March, that is six months extra I get in time to organise and get jobs done, but I am always behind what I want to get done. Kath I think you are part right and part wrong with the comments thing, sometimes I will miss commenting on a whole topic simply due to more important things at home, like the sweet pea topic from a couple of days ago that I will reply to shortly, but was meant to do this afternoon. The majority of this years topics I have replied to and I am setting up something that will allow me to get back on top of that. I am not perfect, but then again...no one is but the comments are very important to me...Steve...😃
@@GreenSideUp sometimes life gets in the way. This last year has taught me that it's not the end of the world if I don't dust my fireplace or hoover my stairs! Lol But I really enjoy your videos no matter what you're doing 🙂
