    I get asked a lot where I get my seeds from so I have for the last week and a half been compiling this list to put onto a video and therefore make a record of it for others to see. I do of course use many other companies too, but these are the main ones for me at the present. It should be noted here that last years list was not the same, and that next years will also be different.

I've started to clear it and it looks pretty good so far it is big so I have been on Premier seeds and bought loads of seeds, I can't wait till Spring Keep up the great videos it's given me a great new hobby and a new lease of life. That is wonderful to hear Derek, an allotment is a happy place that in time will produce very well for you. Chunk every task down into much smaller jobs, then you will achieve more, faster. Work on small areas at a time and once ground is clear a hoe is your best friend. Best of luck with your new plot!!...Steve...😃

    Very helpful vid Steve. As usual, honest and thoroughly explained. 10 suppliers is just enough to explore, too many and we lose concentration. You're a good teacher mate. I've been using Premier seeds since I started my allotment a year ago and You're absolutely right, I give them 10 out of 10! I'm just starting with Growseeds too. I like nipping into Wilkinsons in our little town, their seeds are often very well priced, especially at end of season. Seeds are still well in date but they just want them gone. Among other things I bought 10 packets of carrot seeds 5pence each! Thanks again

    Hello Steve, I use Premier Seeds Direct too but hadn’t heard of the others. D.T Brown is a company that I also use , twice I got free parsnip seeds to grow from them complimentary which was a nice touch. I live in Scotland I had heard of the company in Annan so I might use them in future. I have saved your video to my RUclips library for future use as I have already have all my seeds for next year. I like the seeds to come in simple packages too help keep the costs down. I like gardening to be on the cheap side , I like to recycle ♻️ too even my bags of compost adding seaweed & leaves, blood fish and bone , chicken manure pellets and lime . Gardening to me should be done by doing it cheaply as possible and recycling whatever you can , never throw away what you can reuse, cut down on plastics , take cuttings etc . I like to grow my own because not only it tastes better but you know the food doesn’t contain anything harmful and it cheaper too than buying from the shops. Plus side it keeps you active.

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  2 года назад +1

      I think most of what you have written is pretty much the unspoken "rules" for most allotment plot holders and many gardeners too. Keeping active and out in the fresh air is so important in these troubling times and being able to have a "craic" with other plot holders over the fence too...Steve...😃

    • @GreenSideUp
      @GreenSideUp  2 года назад +2

      This is very true, but Sarah only lists the flowers that tend to be great for cutting for the vase, this is useful for those who are trying growing cut flowers for the first time as it can be a minefield out there. For example Dahlia seeds, so many on the market but not all state their eventual grown size and most will be bedding Dahlias growing no more than 12 inches high and not suitable for the vase....Steve...😃

    Great stuff as usual, Steve. However, I WAS surprised that when recommending Simpson's Seeds for lettuce cvs you didn't mention their exceptional specialisms- tomatoes and capsicums (peppers). And they are one of the three companies I use for plug plants (the other two are Brookside- super quality- and Marshall's). Totally agree about ALL the rest (your list is almost identical to mine) . Thanks especially for Robinson's and Moles. I too have found Premier Seeds an excellent company to deal with.

    Hi, Steve x Thanks for your video (I've written them all down). Some I'd never heard of, but some I had. It's good to have a personal recommendation for them. I have used Premier Seeds Direct for *most* of my container garden next year - veg and flowers. How have you found their flower seeds? I am going now to check out Growseeds - I love using independent companies because I think they really out their heart into it. I have a few more seeds to get for next season (I seriously have a seed-buying problem! I need to get something to keep them all in!) and I'll see what they have to offer. Thanks again for these recommendations! ☺️

    most of the big companies are owened by the same parent company if you look in to them so you don't really get much of a choice really. I prefer some of the more independant's and I tend to grow open pollenated varieties as I don't want a field of carrots ready on the same day like farmers and growers which is what most of the F1's are bred for.
