The one thing I see is that almost every seed company carries the same exact seeds at every place. Fedco is a place I look for specialty things because they are great for that, they seem to be the only seller I see with a wide selection of hard to find seeds. They however are not great with shipping or customer service. My go to is always Baker creek,Been shopping with them for ten years, never had a problem with germination, shipping,or customer service.
Love BakerCreek and MI Gardner is a very close second. Burpee should be ashamed of themselves and their prices!
Good point about Baker Creek is that they have free shipping! I've found that a lot of seed catalogs have good prices on their seeds, but the shipping $ is way too high and cancels out the seed price savings. I'd rather buy more seeds!
YES! THIS!!!!! This is a point that a professional grower might not appreciate. For a home grower that keeps ordering batches of seeds as the inspiration/motivation strikes me, the free shipping at Baker Creek is huge. I don't mind paying some shipping, but I think it was Territorial that wanted to charge me something like $8 for shipping one seed packet within the continental US and I thought "Oh hell no!" :-)
@@JWHealing, Periodically, the seed companies with high shipping rates will have announce a free shipping weekend, etc., but when I want to buy seeds, I don't want to wait. Personally, I would rather they charge an extra 10-20 cents per seed pack and cut back on their shipping charges.
My newest seed company is Migardener good prices and you always get a free lettace seed packet.
Thanks, I'll take a look!
Bakers Creek is my number one! Free shipping and a free pkt over $10. Great germination and good prices. $3.00 for pkt
was wondering about that, Thanks.
They end up being my number one too, though I also order from others. That free seed packet is a funny thing. Last year I got Thornburn's Terracotta Tomato and I wasn't even going to grow tomatoes but that inspired me to go for it and it worked out well. This year I keep getting the red lettuce as my free seed packet over & over. Hoping for something more intriguing. :-)
Very few of my seeds sprouted from this company. Seeds from other companies were better producers for me.
I love baker creek seeds. Thank you for all your helpful tips. Have a blessed coming year.
I am now a chronic seed saver. Most of my favorites were given to me in the past and I value them more than gold. In the past Gurney's was my go to but they have gone profit driven.
Don't get me wrong, I have varieties that came from catalogues that I still grow years later. They are the exceptions.
There are so many parameters that determine your success with any given strain. I have found that letting it get acclimated for your area makes a huge difference. Never give up!
Wow, never saw anyone go through them like that. Thank you Chris!
I used to work at a seed company in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were a good place to work. They have since been sold and are now called True Leaf Market and they look like a good company.
I bought from them 2 weeks ago- cilantro and I think they gave me a complimentary beef steak packet.
Thanks. This was an info-packed video. I need to review it later & take notes. Also, knowing that you are a grower for Baker Creek is a quick & easy way for me to be very impressed by you & the skill & knowledge you must have. Thanks!!!
My list for me as a back yard grower. Johnny’s, Totally Tomatoes, Pinetree, Bakers Creek, and Territorial. Also runner up for me is Vermont Bean has a huge variety of beans like Totally Tomatoes on tomatoes. I totally agree that Pinetree is good overall catalog fir the home gardener.
Thank you for your reviews. Great resources!!!
Super seed information! Thank you Chris. I loved seeing the catalogs and love it that you are the expert! And it was great to “feel” the warmth of your amazing greenhouse.
Right on! Thanks for these suggestions.
Thank you for covering as wide a selection of seeds as you do. There's a lot more seed varieties than a person finds in the grocery store or Garden supply stores.
I love MIGardener seeds for backyard gardens. $2.00 a packet and free shipping over $20.
Great seed information. Thank you for all of the great tips.
I also like seeds and such , Eden brothers and urban farmer
Thank you for the comprehensive video! 💪🏽
Loved this video! Very helpful!
Awsome thanks for the information!
Thanks for the info! 💚
Good information, thanks for sharing.
Awesome
Thank you 🙏
Thank you 😊
Thanks Chris, this is a wealth of info so thank you for providing all that! I’m an urban backyard gardener with interest in following permaculture practices, having started with backyard chickens 5 years ago with the goal of establishing a food forest for seasonal sustenance. I’m also asian so really appreciate your mention of Kitazawa seed co, from which I promptly ordered some seeds for vegetables popular in Asian cuisine. I’ve subscribed to your channel and look forward to more content & to watching it grow, as it should given its superb quality!
Great Teresa, good luck with your veggies this year! I hope to be able to post some videos on permaculture soon, as we are working on our food forest as well.
Thanks for great video. I know it is 2 years old, but, never too late to learn! I would like to add Fruition Seeds in upstate NY for any gardeners in Zone 5ish. Generations of hardy seeds for the short growing season. Plus, excellent providing knowledge and calendar specifics.
Thanks for your input, I'll check it out!
Wait, you have a Boston Redsox cap on your head?!?! I find this channel helpful, thank you!!!🌸
Also Consider....MIGardner and Wild Boar Tomato!
I had seen MIGardner on RUclips but didn't know they had a seed company! I also have grown some of Wild Boar's tomatoes for several years, but always sourced them from someone else. Thanks, great finds!
This r de best companies dat I had ever heard therefore Agriculture is the main key for our country
For affordable large volume of the standard open pollination you can buy large amounts for very little. They are from Minnesota I have sent many seeds from them to support a church work by a local church in Zambia Africa. Because of AIDS there are many orphans. I get a lot of seeds for a few dollars. This is Jordan seeds from Woodbury, MN.
Also came across Fruition Seeds out of New York. Heirloom seeds. They have a RUclips channel as well.
I love Baker creek
Nice hat!
Johnny's is great. I never understood the price thing because when you get down to the individual seed vs the profit you get for the plant, the seed cost is always way way less than 1%. Like a seed ends up costing half a penny to produce a plant that earns you $5.
Baker Creek is more reasonable
I agree. I don't mind paying Johnny's seed prices if /when they have something I want.
Hoss tools has GREAT SEEDS ESPECIALLY FOR SOUTH..PLUS THEY STORE THE SEEDS CORRECTLY...
Like their tool selection, didn't know they did seeds! Thanks
Like them very much!
I’ve ordered & planted seeds from Hoss - cabbages, lettuce, radishes, & okra. I was very pleased with the results.
I love a lot of these companies but I noticed you didn't mention Botanical Interests.
I haven't done business with them, but I'll check them out. Thanks for the tip!
@@TheGoodEarthFarmChannel what about seeds from Franchi? They are my favorite seeds--either from the heirloom seed company or seeds of italy
@@lizaosullivan265 They are not well known in the States, but maybe they should be! Seems like they have a nice selection and some unique varieties. Thanks for the tip.
i got my seeds there last year, and they pretty much all germinated except for the peppers, but that was my fault, I knew it was too cold, and that's what happened with those. But everything else grew. I ended up with too many squash lol They package everything in cute boxes if you get the sets too. I liked them. I have some points to use this year. They have some harder to find items too.
Shout out to Territorial Feed Company! I’m in Oregon too
I love baker creek company
Interesting. I've never heard of some of these. Definitely agree with Totally Tomatoes for variety. For other vegetables, NESeed has good prices for the amount you get and fast shipping (at least to Pennsylvania).
Try Morgan County seeds they put that place to shame.
Don't hear much about:
Morgan County Seeds.
Good seeds, good prices.
I recommend Hudson Valley Seed Company at of New York. Look at their art collection
Checked it out, great option and we're suckers for veggie art! Thanks!
What hand grinder do you use for your corn flower?
Prairie Road Organic Seed is good seed company.
Thanks, we'll check it out!
Should have listed the seed companies in the description.
Love bakers creek. Migardener is inexpensive and seeds are good
I would like to know the difference between hybrid and organic?
Good video, lot of information, thank you.. Is the list of seed companies in your video in your book ?
Yes, the book includes a list of seed companies and their web addresses, as well as a list of nursery companies.
Thanks so much but where can I get it in Sierra Leone to buy
Morgan County seeds company has way better prices and great germination rates and they're not as stingy as the well known mail order companies, I hope hey don't see this as i would hate for this to get to there head. I have never bought a packet with less than 50 tomato seeds and I like to buy in bulk tiny seeds I can throw everywhere like turnip or radish or carrots ext.
I like Johnny’s but the shipping price is pricey to me. It’s almost the same price as the seeds itself.
👍
Have you heard of the seed company I believe it's in South Dakota I believe it's called Guernsey?
Is that Gurney's ?
I'm looking for Luffa Seeds!
Kitazawa Seed Co. has about 8 or 9 varieties listed--check there first
Where did you buy those yellow bins?
They are available locally here. Most produce supply companies will have versions of them.
I want to buy bird's eye chilies the prik kee noo suan variety. How do I find dependable seeds??
Sorry, none of the companies I have dealt with offer them. Lots of private sellers or smaller seed companies offer them, so you just have to try and see how they do. Good luck!
What do you think about American seed company?
Do you mean American Seed... or that bunch of companies that did Plantation Products stuff(they've Jiffy, Ferry Morse, etc.)?
In all these seed catalogs is there any seeds that are true GM mode?
Theresa, for the most part the only GMO crops you'll see available in seed catalogs are just a few sweet corn varieties that have been altered to include BT and will be labeled. The main GMO crops grown in the US are field crops like soybean and corn. I believe there is an apple or two as well as a potato variety that have used by the commercial industry, but home gardeners don't have to worry about that, for now. And Gurney's is a popular seed company in Indiana to answer your other question. Thanks!
My name is Sophia Haughton My dad told me about John's seeds and I would like a catalog so how can I get it.
www.johnnyseeds.com/catalog-request/
hi chris.. thanks for the information. i am prathap from india, i would like to business with seed laboratory center. would you kindly give your valuable information regarding that.
i'm a biotechnologist,
How can I receive these garden calog.
All of these can be requested from their websites
While I do not know this for a fact, it is not professional to say that Burpee has renamed varieties. As a Horticulturist I am completely offended by this. Burpee has provided excellent seed for over a hundred years (no I am not Burpee Staff). My comments are not affected by any relationship with Burpee, other than as a satisfied customer. Please do not denigrate a seed company when you are not sure of your facts.
Thank you.
Joan Prnage
Prange's Florist
Thanks for the comment, I understand your concern but I do give Burpee an overall positive treatment. They have definitely bred lots of great varieties over the years and have used branding as a marketing technique successfully for 100 years! For instance their white marigold contest where they took the winner bred by a customer and branded it "Burpee's Best Whites." Nothing wrong with that, that's just how they use their great name in seeds!
FYI, the seed store in Palm Coast Florida screwed me by sending me a package of Cherokee purple tomato seeds that I could have bought at Walmart for two bucks, I think they got it somewhere around 17 bucks so I won't be buying from the seed store
Check out veseys
Thanks, that is a new one for us!
Injecting politics and conspiracy theories….is why I stopped watching Curtis Stone…..dude got to black helicopter level…just had to turn him off…
A company that sold on etsy for many years and has started there own site we have used them for years has many kinds of seeds that has done good for us. Trailingpetunia.com we like all the kind of lisianthus seeds they have. We grow alot of cut flowers and these are great really like the pelleted seeds so easy to plant.
