I think a lot of people in this comment section are gonna be blown away when he has a good year this year. He had so many starts where he was up like 8-0 then gave up a random meaningless 3 run home run but no one cares cause they still easily won the game but it inflates his era. Is he overpaid? Sure, but he’s still a top 10 pitcher in the AL at least if not the whole league
what’s crazy is everyone forgets how good cole pitched in the postseason this year. He may have a regular season meltdown once in a while, but his numbers are still top 5 in the league for starting pitchers
The only thing he was top 5 in was strikeouts, which he led the league in. He was 30th in ERA, 21st in FIP, 14th in WHIP, 19th in BB/9, and 6th in IP. He had a fine season, but it's just wrong to say he was a top 5 pitcher by any metric.
If you have to result to "xFIP" and "SIERRA" to argue that a pitcher doesn't suck, then that pitcher sucks. The Yankees are and always will be a joke, and Cole blows so bad it's embarrassing.
That toss to Buxton was just an "I want that back" pitch. Guarantee he knew he was going to get tattooed when it left his hand, just a question whether it was going to be a laser double or a bomb. You CANNOT miss center to one of the best hitters in the park.
I think it has more to do with the hypocrisy of the Yankees...they call the Astros cheaters, but they've had players using steroids, sticky stuff, and sign stealing. The 2009 Yankees had about 6 guys that had been suspended for banned substances...most notably A-Rod, Cano, and Pettite. There's a lot of teams that did all the above, but the Yankees act like they're above cheating...Cole is just the most recent.
Throwing 99-102 MPH means nothing if it’s down the middle! Throwing the ball hard doesn’t mean nothing anymore. It’s about movement his fastball is straight as an arrow. It doesn’t move. But that’s one thing about my Red Sox. We hit him all the time. It’s great!!
@@yourthighness273 I mean all do respect the breaking balls. That does happen. That’s any pitcher. But when you are guns blazing a fastball down the middle. You aren’t getting many hitters out.
Larnach hit that one into ORBIT. Heat-seeking piss missile into the upper-deck seats. I miss Papa Nelly's Cruz missiles, but Larnach can really launch 'em too.
He is a great pitcher but not worth 36 mil a year. It seems if he gets thrown off rhythm he will complain and his head goes somewhere else. As a Yankee fan it bothers me that he allowed 33hr this season when we needed him the most. At least he pitched really good in the 2022 postseason (not complaining about that) but he needs to be more consistent in regular season and postseason. I know this past season he was getting used to without the spider tack hopefully he will pitch better this year knowing that he has a better pitching rotation behind him.
To anyone hating on Cole, let me ask you this: would you rather have someone who is consistent in the regular season and inconsistent in the postseason (Kershaw) or someone who is inconsistent in the regular season and consistent in the postseason? (Cole, not including last year’s wild card game) I’d go with the latter all day
@@NoName-fo7mz 2.93 career psotseason ERA, 3.49 since joining the yankees. that's pretty good especially when you consider this is when you face the best teams in the league
This is not all on Cole, we just found out Manfred was using 3 different balls last year. One specifically in Yankee games ONLY….that just happened to be juiced, to use a phrase from the Bonds, McGuire, Sosa years. So not only did he put hit finger on the scales to influence one team over all the others, he inadvertently screwed the Yankee pitching staff and yankee fans. Remember all the bitching about the roof being open for the Astros games and how those balls shouldn’t have left the park….seems they had a point, they just blamed the wrong thing.
