    Very cool video, well done! Two remarks though: 1) you are a brave man installing all those cover bolts with the intakes left open, ALWAYS stick some cloth in all of them while you work or one day you'll drop a bolt or a washer in there, and you'll be *****ed ;) 2) It would have been worth checking the valve clearances once you had the covers off, might as well do it now. But overall great video, will go back to it when I do my covers.

    Use weatherstripping glue. A dot of it, around each bolt hole will be enough. Dries very quickly. Once you set it down it won't move. It's right next to the silicone at the auto parts store. I use it on o-rings and gaskets that won't stay on by themselves.

    It's not the stickyness of the tape or the texture of the fishing line, it's the surface area and friction coefficient. The fishing line has a lower frictional coefficient due to it's surface area than the masking tape.

There is a popping sound coming from the exaust, and I smell gasoline when the car is running. The check engine light flashes when I drive so I know the issue is serious. I made all the proper connections, hoses, wires, and bolts. The new valve covers are intact, no leaks coming from them. The intake and throttle body are connected right. Plenum and manifold gasket were put back correctly. My guess is that the spark plugs/coils aren't properly installed. I had trouble extracting the plugs because my socket wrench wouldn't fit. excellent video thank you my friend! So i only need the valve cover gaskets and the spark cover gaskets right? I was told by infiniti dealer my 2003 g35 sedan six speed manual has the valve covers you have to replace because the gaskets are a part of them?

      yes correct you can't replace the spark plug tube seals because they are built into the valve cover

    Great video! Really helped a lot. I just got done doing this. It came up with three new codes. Two of the codes where because of the valve covers. I was mention that i could have possibly over thighed the valve covers. Even tho i used a torque wrench. Is that even possible for it to throw a code for that because of over thighed?

    I need to do this soon, for $25 more I can get new valve covers as well on eBay. Thinking about getting new coil packs they have a package for $98. New valve covers, gaskets, and coil packs.
    I'm thinking about painting the new valve covers with some high temperature paint. Need a color that will pop, might as well paint the plenum too. Then finish it off and paint the cam covers.
    Just bought a 04 G35x and it's in great condition. It does have a small leak that I've pin pointed to being the oil cooler gasket. Then I noticed there's oil buildup on the driver side valve cover. It's likely just all of the spilt oil from missing the fill hole while filling it with oil. The other side isn't bad, just dirt and 16yrs of build up. I'm going to change the plugs, so I was thinking might as well replace the valve covers. I'm curious how clean the intake is, as well as the cams and valve train. Anyone know if you can clean them while the valve covers are off? Would all of the crud wash down into the pan? Just flush it out with a light weight oil. Maybe I should just wipe it down? I just figured since I have everything accessable, might as well give it a good cleaning. I don't see why it'd harm anything, unless it's really dirty and there's sludge everywhere. I don't think mine is, the engine is runs smooth and is pretty quiet. If I get some seafoam in a spray bottle and just give everything a good soak. Then go over it with an old toothbrush. Any thick sludge, if it even has any I can wipe away with a microfiber cloth. Just making sure nothing thick falls into the oil pan.
    Not sure if it'll even be worth the trouble. I'm not expecting any miraculous changes, just maybe better response time and gas mileage?
    I'm very mechanically inclined this is an easy job. I've just never cleaned the valve train before, so I'm curious if it's even worth the hassle? I will also clean the intake really good as well as the throttle body. If I unplug the throttle body and clean it, will I still have to do the re learning procedure? I'm also going to add some more intake piping so I can relocate the MAF and intake filter. Right now it's resting by the dip stick right next to the valve covers. Wanting to bring it right behind the headlights into the bumper area.

    Hey boss great video! I just have one question is it necessary to change the valve covers when you’re doing the valve cover gasket’s?

    • @thehorsechoker9215
      @thehorsechoker9215 3 года назад +1

      Idk if you found out yet but it’s only necessary to change out the valve covers if they are cracked, or the spark plug wells have oil because the gaskets for the spark plugs go bad. It’s also recommended to be changed every 100,000 miles, and if you’re buying new valve covers buy OEM don’t buy aftermarket.

    fish line idea is brilliant; perfect it by not dragging the knots under the gasket while removing. tie it on top, or cut it/remove so as to not drag it along the gasket/underside. Bump #g35
