      I have 283k miles and counting on my daily-driven 2006 G35 sedan with no issues (that I can't handle). 25k of the miles have been under my ownership. My previous 2005 G35 made it to 265k before it got a bad oil leak, but I'm going to pull that engine and rebuild it for another 2006 G35 coupe (6MT) I have that came with a blown motor. Once I get that going, it's gonna be a track car!
      I bought both of these cars for $1500 each. They've taken a fair bit of work but I've learned a lot, and I have more faith in my daily than ever. In the end, I'll have two great cars (one of which I autocross/drift), have parted another out, and have done all the work myself. This has been my passion over the pandemic.

      @Sic Semper Tyrannis That is not entirely true, on each individual cylinder, yes, but in that case any engine vibrates, however using precise counterweights, balance shaft, certain bank angles and sometimes split crank pins it is possible to balance out the entire block. Yes I understand that if it's off by 0.00006 there is gonna be a little vibration, but what I think he meant is that simply making the thing stronger doesn't not make the engine smoother or more balanced in any way.

    7:42 absolutely no.
    What really happens... The maximum piston speed is reached when the Conrod and the crank forms a 90° angle. Which is (depending on geometry of the engine, Conrod length etc) a bit before the crank reaches 90°. The counteracting piston in the meanwhile, is going up way slower (because far from 90° between crank and conrod). The difference in acceleration prior to that leading to the difference in speed of the 2 pistons is giving an imbalance.
    9:38 yeah, if it was a 2 stroke

    • @LikelyCandidate
      @LikelyCandidate 4 года назад

      Yikes... They put a lot of effort into explaining that totally wrong. I can't believe no one caught that before finishing the animation. I hope they correct it before all the VQ owners start telling people their engines don't follow the laws of physics.

    • @SP_EH444
      @SP_EH444 4 года назад

      Thanks! Your comment makes complete sense and added to my understanding of the connecting rod angle, crankshaft angle, to piston speed relationship.
      I was considering this from a geometry perspective. I concluded that linear distance traveled by the piston between crank angles 90°-270° and 270°-90° must be equal. The crankshaft rotates about its center axis (there are many possible center axises, but we understand the specific "center axis" I am referring to). Thus, any point which a connecting rod mounts to the crankshaft must be equidistant from the crankshaft's axis of rotation. This forms a circular path for the connecting rod mount with its center at the crankshaft's axis of rotation. As such, the distance traveled between 90°-270° and 270°-90° must be equal. Actually, it must be precisely half the stroke which is the distance of the piston traveled between crank angles 180°(BDC)-360°(TDC).
      The only way I can think to achieve the phenomenon he mentioned is if the connecting rod were mounted to a geared eccentric that modified its distance from the center axis (axis of rotation) of the crank shaft. Not sure what utility this would have, but it would achieve the odd dynamic he proposes.
      I just wanted to watch a video on my lunch break, but I am not a fan of ingesting false information labeled as fact. This statement piqued my curiosity because I didn't understand how it could be true. In other videos from "The Science Explained" series, I have found "facts" that didn't seem true as well. This one was just blatantly obvious! As such, I had to dig into it for the sake of my own sanity. Once again, thanks for your input @Andrea Maccario.
      I really enjoy most of Donut Media's content, but I will not be watching anymore content from "The Science Explained." I do not want falsehoods portrayed as truths clouding my judgement. I'll stick to Engineering Explained for topics of this nature.
