Tony Rice never really got the recognition he deserved. Watch the way Alison looked at him when he took his solo. She really admires him and wanted people to see what a great talent he was.
A lot of people don't realize what a phenomenal fiddler AK is. She isn't a singer who plays the fiddle. She's a fiddler who sings. I saw her win the Walnut Valley fiddle competition back in 1984. She was just one of these festival regs back then. Came back in '86 and took third. Nobody knew she could sing. But clearly there's more money in singing than there is in playing fiddle at festivals, so there ya go!
Love the crowd reaction! Appreciative fans and lots of em. I don't think they were expecting that kind of reaction from the crowd and that's why all the smiles.
She was spot on perfect in this one not a single stumble or anything absolutely flawless. What a great performance. Obviously the rest of the band too, but she definitely shines
I know, thank you for pointing that out. Fiddle is where she started. Then her voice matured and so many forgot or didn't know she can tear up a fiddle like nobody's business!
As a fiddler, I admire how she sings and plays fiddle with equal emotion. Many people say flutes and winds are the closest to the voice; because of breath being used... I say strings are closer to sounding like the voice, but a rare gem for someone like Alison to come along. I strive to play like her on every tune I play, whether Irish, Norwegian or American, and I've been playing it 22 years!
Cannot stop listening to this perfection, a confection of a joyful and ecstatic masterpiece! Alison is an angel, and I agree with Brad Paisley that her voice is what will welcome me into heaven!
I play mainly Irish and Scottish fiddle music, with a few bluegrass and country runs thrown in :-) but it's amazing how these seemingly simple melodies translate across genres, styles and even within their "genre". This melody is very close to the old "turkey in the straw," at least parts of it are. I know several Scottish and Irish tunes that are quite close to this as well. It's amazing. Even Cape Breton, Nova Scotia composed tunes are close to this one (such as _The Road to Mull River_ , by Mr. Rankin senior). Loosely could be connected to Sawing on the Strings.
My heart resides in Nashville, TN. Good 'ol country fun! My paternal Grandpa was born in Louisiana in 1883; my older bro lives in Texas. Great tune! Love, Cav.
Just sooooo happy this great music is getting popular agin. All you have to do is listen what they call music now . I think and angel came down to the earth and touched Allison. As her voice is surely the voice of and angel.
This groove is the perfect representation of what it is I LOVE so much about Bluegrass music. This group has such a solid groove on the off beat that for the 1st time that I've ever seen even the crowd was clapping on the off beat and not on the down beat like they usually do! Now THAT's an accomplishment mates! Now if I could just learn this song well on my banjo...
Thanks, dahliacorona - a cosmic moment, and wonderful to share years later. Boundless talent equaled only by the joy that shines as these gifted musicians play and sing together.
If we have to send some people to an alien race to save our planet, to prove that we are worth not destroying, I want to send Alison Krauss and Union Station. These people are among the best on our stupid Earth. Love Alison forever.
This is wonderful!! Alison Krauss and Union Station are SO talented, and I don't know who the other people are who were performing with them, but they were super-talented too! What a great video!😊💒
That is what makes country music so great! It combines teamwork, family love, good timing, & a willingness to project enthusiasm about just how awesome the U.S.A. is! LOVE IT! * Cav *
Tony, you didnt do great you did the best! I think this was one of the best performances he did before he retired.... have a good rest up there buddy! R.I.P
Watch the video of this song, same players in a room together. They are having a BALL playing this song, grins ear to ear by everyone. It’s gotta be fun to be this good!
@bluegrasssingingman I still remember laying in bed on a saturday morning and mom put on a record that she bought at a garage sale. It was one of the "Bluegrass Album Band" recordings. I heard Tony's voice and then a guitar break and jumped out of bed to see WTF was making these amazing sounds! I was already a banjo player (11 yrs old) but that made me learn the guitar and try to steal all of Tony's licks LOL.
@MrRazorblade999 Darn right Alison just keeps getting more gorgeous every time yo see her. And her voice keeps getting better every time she makes music. That woman is awesome!!!
She started very early on playing with Tony - and he had slowed touring by then because of arthritis and would be completely stopped by 2013. She knew he just played one of the best solos of his life in front of a National TV audience and it was just a lot to handle. We all knew it watching it.
Tony Rice never really got the recognition he deserved. Watch the way Alison looked at him when he took his solo. She really admires him and wanted people to see what a great talent he was.
This is the way it's done...we need more of this in this country...now more than ever
Just brings tears to my eyes...doesn't get any better than this.
I know that feeling. Especially when you're up there playing and all in the zone. It's the best
RIP Tony Rice, Alison's mentor and dear friend.
He was a monster! The true G.O.A.T!
OMG, Tony Rice is dead???
@@venturaleoleo Suddenly, on Dec. 25, probably a heart attack, but not stated.
@@venturaleoleo He hadn't looked great for about a decade :(

Good Lord that woman is beautiful! From the inside out, she just radiates.
Alison has a deep appreciation for Tony Rice and you can see in her face how proud she is when he takes his solo.
Love the crowd reaction! Appreciative fans and lots of em. I don't think they were expecting that kind of reaction from the crowd and that's why all the smiles.
Still makes me SMILE!!!!! Alison is a National Treasure!!!
WORLD!!!!
And talk about a primo backup. Just about the best ya could get!
Allison is such a beautiful woman and singer
She was spot on perfect in this one not a single stumble or anything absolutely flawless. What a great performance. Obviously the rest of the band too, but she definitely shines
this is why I love America and of course Alison Krauss!!!
this is what you hear when you get to heaven.. the best pickers and an angel singing with them.
Me, I'd rather stay down here and listen to AK.
I was thinking the exact same thing. The All-Star Angel Band on Earth 😁
There is more talent on this performance than the combined winners of the CMA Awards that year.
I love watching AK play that fiddle. She's totally one with her instrument. No words can do it justice.
I know, thank you for pointing that out. Fiddle is where she started. Then her voice matured and so many forgot or didn't know she can tear up a fiddle like nobody's business!

Alison Krauss and Union Station... A gift from heaven!
Can't begin to tell you what a treat it is to hear real musicians.
Amen was born and raised in the north. Bring it back. Love you and your musicians Allison.
Cannot stop listening to this perfection, a confection of a joyful and ecstatic masterpiece! Alison is an angel, and I agree with Brad Paisley that her voice is what will welcome me into heaven!
I want to hear her fiddling in heaven, along with her voice! Although here on earth is pretty fantastic, too.
Alison Krauss, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush are so damn awesome...
Michael Meyer Don’t forget Stewart Duncan!
And Block, and Dan and Barry lol
This is what you call "Masterclass"!
Man oh man! It doesn't get any better than this. Wall to wall talent, with Alison's angelic voice as icing on the cake!
Love all those smiles while they're playing!
that is one of the most awesome live performances ever! from one end of the stage to the other, all master craftsmen
There is so much talent on that stage, you have to be foaming at the mouth. What a group! It does not get better than this.
What ever your taste in music, It doesn't get any better than this. "MAGNIFICENT", what a Performance.
AKUS by themselves is outrageous. Add in Sam Bush, Tony Rice and Stuart Duncan and they are flipping magical!!
Amen, as good as it gets
Dan and Sam are having entirely too much fun on the mandos! A lot of mutual respect going on there...
Wow......pure magic....the best in the business.
A K is such a wonderful talent

Just sooooo happy this great music is getting popular agin. All you have to do is listen what they call music now . I think and angel came down to the earth and touched Allison. As her voice is surely the voice of and angel.
Wish she would play stuff like this all the time!

Tony's rhythm playing here is just fantastic.

I think Alison loses it at the end, I think it hit her how perfect this was.

Once again thanks to the posters as well as you-tube for making vids like this available.
