My wife and I saw her in the symphony hall here in Huntsville. It was truly sublime. I have seen a good many famous artists over the years, but that may well have been the best concert I've ever been to.
Had not heard this beautiful ballad till 2024. Allison is amazing and the Dirt Band with her is country music perfection. This is truly country music at its absolute best. It's forever in my playlist now.
What kind of moron gives this a thumbs down?! Alison Krauss' fantastic singing voice backed up by an incredible band. It doesn't get any better than this. She also performed it at the 50TH anniversary of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at the Ryman Auditorium. It was fabulous as well with Sam Bush in the band. I see the late Randy Scruggs is on guitar in this version.
My beloved late husband, for our first date 25 years ago, went and saw Allison at a small county fair. Had never heard her before and said the same thing to Terry, she has the voice of an angel. Her CD has been playing when I get in the car for about a year.
Oh my, there are so many musicians, singer-songwriters, out there but in relative obscurity. A bunch of those people are women who have been redefining bluegrass, and country. I don't know where to start with a list, but let me know if you are interested and I will point you in the direction of folks playing some badass songs and such. One thing, have you ever seen Sierra Hull play mandolin and sing? She was helped up into the music industry by performing with Alison Krauss when she (Sierra) was in about the 2nd grade. Alison was brought up and out into prominence in the same way; very young. Sierra Hull is all grown up now, still playing mandolin with her band, performing, and blazing new trails for women, in bluegrass and mandolin playing. Both of those fields have been male dominated for a very long time.
Wayne Riley I have seen the Petersen Family Band. They are good. Thank you. Still, Alison Krauss and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are at the highest level.
@@wriley4409 I agree brother. Check out their bios www.petersenband.com/bandbios/ Also The Franz family, Southern Raised, The Haygood family. Lots of talent in Branson

What a beautifully harmonized rendition of a Blue Grass standard. Man...so lovely it brings a tear to the eyes of anyone who appreciates the sweet versatility of American music, and the diversity of cultures it represents.😢
Interesting that this song was written in the 70's, and I heard it for the first time yesterday. Or maybe I heard it when I was young, but don't remember it.
I was fortunate (privileged really) to hear the Dirt Band and Alison at the 50th anniversary concert of the Dirt Band in 2016. When Alison sang this song, it brought tears to my eyes, as it does every time I hear her sing. Great song, Beautiful lady, heavenly voice.

When I hear songs like this, I have so much more respect for artists such as Alison Kraus and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, because unlike Taylor Swift, they have stayed true to their roots and grown within those very rich origins. Kudos to them all!!!
Then you get it my friend. This was written in '72 and obviously meant to bring unity. I live in Vicksburg, I am a white male and don't subscribe to any form of racism. Slowly things are changing. I live in Vicksburg, MS and see a lot of love between whites and blacks. I also see a lot of ignorant people stuck in backwards mentalities, both black and white. Like I said, things are changing slowly but surely. Actions speak louder than words, and as long as some of us continue to bring love, that backwards thinking will dissolve.
I don't want to detract from Alison - she is excellent. But you must recognize the DECADES of musicianship supporting her and behind her. They are all true professionals, well-advanced in their craft!
A perfect little masterpiece. Alison so delicate and understated. Douglas' tiny statements between lines are pure joy. And Jeff Hanna can sing anything at all. Why has NGDB not received more acclaim?
No huge originals, maybe? They made hits of Bojangles and Pooh Corner. And they made the Circle album. Those of us who were around knew their legacy. "Pick it, doc," was perhaps the best line any of them ever delivered (Way Downtown).
Hello 👋 Dear. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
How can a simple song with 3 chords in 4/4 time be so moving? One word - talent. Great lyrics (RIP Johnny Russell). Great band with fantastic harmony vocals (NGDB). Talented musicians (Randy Scruggs, Jerry Douglas, and Alison Krauss) who use their talent to complement the song instead of outdoing each other or showing us how good or how fast they are. No twerking. No lip synching. No auto tune. Nothing but straight out talent.
Quite right. Back in the old days Johnny Russell did far too much twerking when he sang this. Very distracting.
