Same thing with the bodybuilders and Instagram dudes who very obviously take steroids and lie about it. If you want to take steroids, fine who cares, but I don't understand the point of claiming natty when its obviously a lie. At that point, your just misinforming people who don't know any better that it's achievable naturally when it's not.

    • @monoflea6851

The general public doesn't even know whether or not prime Arnold was natty. If you're a natural lifter, anti-doping or no anti-doping, you're being made and will continue to be made to look worse unfairly, but the best hope of changing that in the future is to maintain anti-doping and try to make it more effective, not abandon it altogether.

@@MrDofusplayer It is absolutely widespread at the top level. Clarence's video and documentaries such as Icarus explain how easy it is to get away with cheating, either with using undetectable substances, or paying bribes. Now despite that, here's a list of tennis players who have been CAUGHT cheating:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Doping_cases_in_tennis
including John McEnroe, Richard Gasquet, Andre Agassi, Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova...
These are the ones who still couldn't beat the tests despite all the loopholes. At the top level there is so much money and prestige that people will do anything to get there. You are wrong to be disappointed in people you know for cheating, it's literally the only way to compete. Depending on the level they're at they aren't necessarily doping, but perfect genetics and rigorous training can only take you so far.

I am not really sure I buy what you are selling here. It sounds like justification for your own use in the sport. For starters, even without drug use, it is not a level playing field. A national team member in the US will have an incredible advantage over someone from a country like Kazakhstan in most sports. At the same time, most people participating are not doing so with ideas of competing beyond their own goals (some sports) or local competitions. I don't think you are advocating a healthy view of what one is capable of, but rather that winning is the ultimate goal. What I take from this is that if the competitor can't win with whatever advantages their country has afforded them outside of doping, it isn't worth doing it.
I think it is hard to ignore the new medium we can reach people. More and more, influencers and online personalities can present an image or lifestyle without the need for sport to give these same values more screen time. If one doesn't hit a look, doesn't it a certain max by these values, it is a failure. People with no financial gain of a gold medal are aiming for these results in their life.
I think it is worth the anti-doping agencies to try. Using Russia as an example, their competitors should have been barred from the entire country until they showed they were compliant across the board. I think we deserve athletes that inspire us with drug-free performance, and I think we need to pressure our governing bodies to support that internationally by with drawing participation from countries not wanting to play by the rules
