I have a Bachelors in Biology as well and taught myself how to code when working as a lab tech. Now I’m working as a web developer making much more money. Trust me. It’s never too late to change.
How long did it take you to teach yourself coding?
Happy for you, and I needed to read this. 🙏

@@johnmcnamara8741 Anytime. I also regret my degree, but at least I know I can learn things now lol
@@aaronrubalcava7810 At the time yes, but I also had several hard life events happen at that time, so it was difficult, but really, it should take about a year to build some good projects for a job.
She is afraid to leave a $15/hr job?! She can walk into Wal-Mart today and they will practically hire her on the spot for $15/hr.
Yeah, that made no sense.
non-profit are the worst. They pretty much groom people into thinking there is nothing out there, and detroy their confidence in order to keep paying as little as possible. Donors don't want to see anything go to overhead ( even Dave said so) so they pretty much rely on underpaying people with graduate degrees.
Dont get a masters degree unless it’s going to lead into at least a $50/hr job
To start.
Don't get a masters degree, if you already make $50,hr
She’s not using it properly she could easily make $50+ for biology

Why not go to med school with a masters in bio?
@@uberhaxonova not everyone wants to be a doctor
With a biology degree, she should look into selling medical devices at the largest medical device companies. J&J, Stryker, Medtronic, Abbott, etc.
Exactly and since she says she likes writing she can go into technical writing for those kinds of companies too!
I agree. I work for one of those companies.
@@JIMvc2 don't these companies pay a lot to sales representatives? I'm sure they do as they have to even train doctors on how to use the devices.
@@lisachan728 They do pay well. But in my experience working with the OR reps, I would never do their job. The lifestyle is horrible. They are essentially on call 24/7 and have to be at the beck and call of countless surgeons. And I only see part of their job, I'm sure outside the OR they have other responsibilities for work (training, meetings, etc.). I complain about being on call once a week, I couldn't imagine working their schedule. However, if that doesn't bother you or you are young and single, it could be a decent gig.
Hopefully she sees your comment.
She could be a high school biology teacher
Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
Worthless job might as well work part time at Walgreens
I'd rather be homeless.
I can relate. I started a baby sitter business at home. Making six figures..
As I heard her talk about her interests, I can see her finding opportunities teaching science to homeschooled kids, maybe in a virtual class, or working for a company that creates curriculum for homeschooling.
Exactly.
Sounds fulfilling in principle, but will it really lead into a well-paying career? Why does she think her college degree is worth less because she is female? Why did she even bother to get a degree if she is not going to use it for maximum income & position? Her husband must be very frustrated right now having a bait-and-switch pulled on him. Very few men can afford for wife to be SAHM when a comfortable lifestyle is expensive, and she wants that lifestyle just as much as him, "for the kids". What she was describing was escapism, SAHM & ministry & creative writing, really? She is already in non-profit position, and she sees it as low-paying & not fulfilling yet she still wants to go into ministry. sheesh...
@@jeromehenry4484 being a SAHM doesn’t pay well, that’s true, but it’s hardly an escape.
@@AngelaMastrodonato
It is an escape when she have student loans for her Biology degree.
What's the point of getting a loan for a degree when you're just going to be a SAHM at the end of the day?
no money in that
As the owner of a BS in History I can understand having a useless degree but at least I didn't take out student loans. MBA was paid with the GI Bill and it's pretty useless too.
K, you technically don’t count then. The GI bill paid for it. What’s even worse is you decided to spend that valuable GI Bill for a useless piece of paper 😐. You misused your resource
@@mikenelson8377 not necessarily. It’s unique situation with many vets. Might seem useless and that he misused his resource on the surface but that monthly BAH stipend we get while enrolled on school full time really moves mountains for many folks and their families and sustains them. Not for nothing we earned it and we can use it any way we see fit. Misuse or not
How is an MBA useless ? You can make fantastic money with an MBA ?
@@Eric_Bassett it's not useless, but not as valuable as I thought. Most likely due to my undergrad. It did net me a 15k pay increase.
@@mikenelson8377 It has more than paid for itself but an MBA has become too common these days. They are overvalued without a solid base such as accounting or engineering.
Why would you be afraid to quit a job that makes $15/hr 🤔
She’s delusional. Her husband better get another job or a divorce ASAP.
“ I love to be a stay at home mom.” 😄
Masters degree, what did she think it was gonna be like? Work is work your not supposed to have fun. Wait till she leaves that non profit and goes into big boy corporate world. She wants to sit at home no kidding.
it depends on work. 20% of ppl genuinely love their jobs. so the question is what is stopping you from finding a "funner" job? is it lack of money? time? resources? networking? education? skills? experience? opportunities? demand? salary? etc
She wants someone her husband respects to tell her “you should stay at home” so she can convince her husband to let her do it…

Did these guys really not pick up that she wants to stay at home and not work anymore?
I have a double bachelor's degree in hospitality management and restaurant management but ended up working in finance as a customer service quality assurance analyst. Picking a degree that aligns with what you want is great, but you can equip yourself to work in whatever field you really desire.
She has master degree in biology. At 3:08 she said she would love to be a stay at home mom. Ouch!!
"I got a masters with a goal of being a stay home mom, and called Dave to blast my husband for not being able to support me"
Sounds like she needs to engage a more aggressive drive to look for better employment. Once she does, she can work for one of the kajillion biotech companies using her Masters in Bio, perhaps as a copywriter.
I am in this exact same situation. Two bachelors degrees with a slew of sales experience. Got into it young to make as much money as possible, but was never passionate about it. Now it fills my resume, and I feel stuck in this industry because it feels like I’ll have to start at the bottom in order to land somewhere else. Thank you for the call.
She's definitely a victim of the follow your dreams nonsense that leads too useless degrees. At least she's trying too change that
Pfft. I got no degree, neither did I go to university. Zero debt.
I'm still following my dreams - and that doesn't require a degree. Work experience is highly underrated.
That’s nonsense she can make a great living with a biology degree. Medical field, pharmaceutical sales, chemical sales, ect. She said it she doesn’t want to work.
Also the get rich by choosing the best education BS
Yes, poor people don’t have the luxury of following their dreams! Peasants should just be grateful where their already at. They should continue to live meaningless lives.
she wants to be an author.she can write a book while still working and when the book is published and the income is coming in she can quit her job.
ken is really smart at this type of stuff and gives great advice.
High School dropouts can make $15 an hour, what a sucker. I have two degrees...
Yeah....my brother-in-law has a BS in Biology.....he's making about 50 grand or so working with lasers and doctor's...but it's not really the greatest job... I would caution most people to NOT pursue that degree....
I have B.S. in animation, but working in an office. I can tell that office work is not suitable for me because tasks are tedious and there is no challenge or fun in it. What worries me is if I do get hired into a desired studio, I would have to start at the bottom (ie office work) to get to where I should be. I don't want to be wasting time.
I feel for her. She really wants to stay home and raise her baby, and I wish she was in a more obvious situation where she could do that. My husband and I decided that I would stay home to raise the kids and I did not work for 10 years until my youngest was in kindergarten, then I went part time so I can still drop them off, pick them up, be there when they get home, etc. I do not regret it at all. I would have regretted not doing it this way. We have made sacrifices and my husband has worked very smartly in his career, but honestly it has been so good for the whole family and we are living comfortably below our means.
That's nice if you can afford to do that but many people can't now a days. A lot of people need tow incomes to make it so both partners end up working.
Good for you! Best thing ever is to raise your own children.
This is why you don’t tell your kids you can be whatever you want when you grow up. The correct thing to tell them is you can be whatever you want as long as it makes a great income.
What a trainwreck of a call. She has no drive or desire but wants to not make 15 bucks an hour. Determine your goal and what you need to do to reach it.
She doesn't want to work at all from the sound of it. She wants to be a stay at home mom and have husband pay all the bills... except he's not getting paid high enough to pay all their bills.
Switching from my original major was the best decision I ever made for my career, and my happiness.
never quit your job before finding a new one!
I did. It’s a struggle but I’ve never had less money and been more happy✌️😊
But I’m also a veteran with PTSD and back injury. Living on the VA monthly stipend from that is not easy but putting up with a BS job that isn’t satisfied until they have your blood and soul ain’t happening on my watch. I’d rather struggle financially and be more at peace with myself and life in general
If you have money saved up and no family its safe to quit.
You know what this lady REALLY wants to do? She wants to be a stay at home mom. And there is no other greater calling than that! I hope that she gets there and is able to enjoy it for all it is worth!!!
Yeah, it wasn’t as deep as Ken was making it for her lol
@@CloverMediallc I rarely agree with Ken.
Then why go to school only to end up staying at home?
Yep. That's the only reason why she's scared to quit her job and is considering tutoring because she can do it at home. Ken just went on a long ramble that confused me so I doubt it helped her. She's not looking for a career!
Book smart. No common sense. That's why she has a biology degree and makes $15 an hour. She has no plan, does not know how to make her degree work, and is a little lazy. Corporate does not want to hear that you would like to be a stay at home Mom. Its going to be hard for her to make any real money.
I just like when Dave yells at people
College degree and $15
She needs some self motivation.
Get moving in the right direction.
Gotta do what makes you happy, and pays the bills
Basically she doesn't want to work. Problem solved.
If this pandemic has taught us anything about life it’s that life is too short to stay in a job you hate.
How do people go to school for so many years and not know what they wanted to do in the field. That's like when I like sociology class and thought maybe i should study it and with a quick Google search saw no results and moved on. We have too many resources to not know better
K so I just looked it up again and apparently there is choices but there are degrees in those jobs specifically, like psych or hr or data analysis whatever, if I wanted to do that I would've just done that and not sociology, it's too broad to know what exactly I was attempting to do, biology is also another one, her fault is she got a masters in the same broad field as well. I'm really not sure why she didn't stop at bachelor's, but many people don't start working in fear a bachelor's isn't enough to find a job, but it should be, it's not a free degree, it's nearly 100k and if it's not good enough to find a job, you picked the wrong field
Target is paying $25 an hour.

The problem is that this woman has no career plan. A master's degree but working a $15 hour job? She also took a long time to figure out what she'd actually like to be doing - which is a work from home mom. Again, no need for a master's degree if that was the plan. She needs to sit with her husband and get some professional career advice and actually THINK about what she wants and what her next steps should be

*I DISLIKE WHEN DAVID INTERRUPTS THE OTHER CO HOST SPEAKING*
With a bachelor's and master's degree in bio you can easily get a WFH gig at a health insurance company in data analytics or working in account management making 3x what you are currently making. $15 dollars an hour is hilariously low pay for your degrees.
15/hr with a masters in biology. Doesn’t make sense
$15/hr is AWFUL with a masters degree!
Oh yes it’s so easy to find a $30hr job😂
yes, it is. If you cant find one with a masters in a decent degree which biology is, then you are just dumb. Although most jobs wont be $30 an hour but instead 60k+ a year salary.
Maybe she can teach biology?
This is the problem in our culture many women want to be stay-at-home moms but they feel that they have to go to college. Not realizing that college steals some of their most opportunistic years of getting the role they actually want fear of being shamed by feminist. Having women in the workplace benefits corporations.
Have the same degree and work in the biotech sector. What exactly is the malfunction here. Get to work in a lab and make some real stacks.
The fact that it was a degree itself might be an error

Learn to code and utilize that bio background
I don't like my job all that much but I sure do love having money
Dave's advice: "go get a job that pays $30/hour" as if she wasn't already trying to do that. That was either a joke or plain dumb lol
There’s nothing like being overworked and under paid
With that degree starting is at least $24/hr over here. She's not trying hard enough to look for the right role.
Work a career/mission that has you getting up from sleep singing "lalalalalalala"
Her problem is she feels bad she wants to be a stay at home mom but doesn't want to make the sacrifice on spending to live on one income. Did I miss something? She isn't stuck at this job, she stays at this job because she doesn't want to cement herself into a job that makes more since. Because then it's hard to justify staying at home when she still owes who knows how much for that degree
Why not use that masters degree
A masters in Biology should be easy to transfer into the corporate world, it's not like she got a degree in "lefthanded puppetry".
