    Personally, the Fusion Lamp is a trap in my opinion. I actually like to give it to hostile faction stations, then I can trade them volatiles at a nice high premium to make bank.
    I actually think that the only good use for a fusion lamp would be on a gas giant that is cold, dark, and has bonus volatile production. Countering the two effects plus having the planet itself offset the volatile need seems to be the only way to make the fusion lamp worth it.

    • @nobodyuwu3970
      @nobodyuwu3970 Год назад +2

      The fusion lamp helps on growing colonies with cold climates and high hazard rating , it is overall cheaper than paying for the full hazard pay iirc

      Yeah.. it's kinda crazy!

  • @tyray3p
    @tyray3p Год назад +23

    Remember that when a colony says it needs or exports 3, 5, 10 units of something, it's not literally just asking for that number.
    It's logarithmic, depending on colony size. The 10 units of volatiles your name here 2 needs is probably a couple thousand volatiles. Same with the supplies it needs, probably needs ~400 to ~800 supplies to meet it's demand for the month. Again, might be more or less depending on the size of the colony.

    • @lorienninavah6696
      @lorienninavah6696 Год назад +2

      I think the easiest way to think about it is income and outcome. Normally you won't be able to get nearly enough to make up for it, so you need to acquire it through imports from other colonies.

    My name suggestion is "Frostpunk" for the new planet. One of the best games I ever played. I would name 3 destroyers "buttercup", "bubbles" and "blossom" (powerpuff girls) for their heroism in the battle against scavengers. Naming the eagle "Professor Utonium" might be fitting as well x)
    Also I think you need to insert the corrupted nanoforge into heavy industry.

    Quick tip to facilitate exploration: when in a system, you can use the 3rd icon in your tab to perform a sensor burst. That will provide your fleet with signals worth investigating at longer ranges, which means you don’t have to be next to the object to discover it !

    Hey Timo, just a few more tips:
    When you said the eagle is slow and had trouble catching up, you had you shields up. When you fly a ship, have shields down, fighters (if you have any) on regroup and are at 0 flux, you get a substantial speed boost (I think it was 50 flat speed or so). When you just spam the maneuvering jets, you can get the eagle up to 130 combat speed and even catch some frigates.
    The lamp is absolutely not worth it in 99% of cases.
    About orders and ships getting dogpiled on: when you select a friendly ship, you have escort ordrs available. You can choose 1-2 main ships, and assign a "heavy escort" to them. Then your ships will stay together and fight as small wolf packs. They are much harder to flank and concentrate fire better if you do that. If giving that order every combat, there is a mod that allows you to set escort default orders as (free) hull mods. I think it was called automatic orders.
    Keep up the good work, enjoying both series.

    • @nobodyuwu3970
      @nobodyuwu3970 Год назад +1

      escort orders can be damgerous tho, it happens often that ships just stack up behind the shipto be escorted, making enemy ships focus in on the clump pretty much swarming the ship in front.
      more of a priblem with very large enemy fleets with lots of larger ships.
      For those it is better to use nav points in a line so no ship can be targeted alone (most of the time)

    • @TimoRedbeard
      @TimoRedbeard  Год назад +1

      Great tips, thanks for the heads up, I'll try to keep it all in mind as best I can :D

  • @TheCyanAngel
    @TheCyanAngel Год назад +3

    In combat, if you need to close the distance to an enemy, lower your shields, you move faster. You will also move faster if your not firing. These combined with your ability will all stack together
    You can also target an enemy by mousing over them and pressing R this will make your automated weapons focus on that ship if they can (they will still shoot other ships if they don't have angle or range on your main target)

  • @Dok0mo
    @Dok0mo Год назад +4

    You can "ASUMME DIRECT CONTROL" of any of your ships in combat, just select a ship in the tactical map and press X, a tiny shuttle will fly to the ship, land on it and you'll be able to pilot the ship. Lots of fun seeing you play btw hahaha

    The orbital fusion lamp isn't practical early game. It's ment for late game when you got a colony that can supply the volatiles required in the same system, or at least after you built up military base/high command to help keep traders safe. If you add the DIY planets mod you can better customise your planets and transform them into true paradises. Also has an alternative to orbital fusion lamp that is a very long time investment to terraform, instead of just mitigating the effects of cold. If you think something is overpowered then just don't use that structure or item. No need to exclude everything from the mod because of a few things you don't like.
    A battlestation helps too but does nothing to get traders from hyperspace to your planet safely. Only helps traders orbiting your planet and aids in protecting from raiders.
    The volatiles production does increase as colony size grows but a gas giant is best for volatiles as the colony item buffs that production up the most, but there is an alternative that'll benefit other planet types more as you can't use that item on a gas giant.
    You can also transfer the colony to another faction when you find somewhere better to settle and whenever you want governship you can get it for cheap as it was a player colony. The only downside I've noticed compared to full ownership is no option to grant independence. Rest works as if you have full ownership. You can cede governship anytime but must pay again to reclaim it.

    • @TimoRedbeard
      @TimoRedbeard  Год назад

      Yeah.. you're right on the lamp for sure, it's a trap early on. I'm avoiding DIY planets for now just because I've got so much I'm still learning and I'd rather get that down before adding more mods with more to learn aahaha, lots of playthroughs in future that will become heavier and heavier modded.

  • @onevillageidiot
    @onevillageidiot Год назад +2

    Fact I learned on my own playthrough:
    Industrial Evolution, the mod that introduces Domain Artifacts and a various means of countering planet issues like Hot/Extreme Hot or Cold/Extreme Cold, has the Stellar Reflector structure. It's nullifies Hot/Cold (not the extreme versions) and gives +1 output to farms while active, but more importantly, when it's nullifying Cold, that nullification DOES NOT affect the upkeep cost of the Kefka Simulator (the industry that creates AI cores and requires Cold/Extreme Cold in order to reduce the upkeep cost). You can check the upkeep cost of the individual buildings and see if the cold/extreme cold is lowering the cost. And since Ind.Evo is what adds both the Kefka Simulator and the Supercomputer, I think the Supercomputer isn't negatively affected by nullifying Cold.
    Fair warning, I haven't tested this with the Orbital Fusion Lamp, though I'd assume they work off of similar mechanics.
    EDIT: oh, and the lamp is definitely a late-game item. Like, well after you have a nice big colony on a gas giant, with a Dynamo and Alpha core. It's just far too expensive to use.
    EDIT2: @35:24 There's a fun little exploit with this bar prompt if you have the cash. If you see this prompt, you can go to the local ship market, and buy a matching ship. Then turn around and flip it to the bar contact. You'll get a small profit in credits, but also reputation with the faction that owns the planet.
    EDIT3: @46:17 Well, one extremely important thing to know about trading is the F1 key. If you are in a system with a relay (like most Core systems), if you look at a commodity in inventory or in the market and hit F1 (or Fn key + F1, depending on keyboard setup), then the game shows you the best places to buy and sell commodities and at what price. It's a fantastically important thing to know, and the game doesn't really throw in your face to learn. And I don't think I've seen you pull up that menu, so just thought I'd mention it. Oh, and F1 is used in other parts of the game too.

      @qq-wy7zs Год назад

      You don't have to fully fuel the plasma torch either. Just produce at least some volatiles somewhere and it will be a benefit. Selling them also has a benefit in that you make money off exporting the volatiles to them but not as much as having one on each of your cold planets.

    A few tips for you Mr timo, wen exploring in deep space use the third ability to send a sensor pulse and pick things very far.
    Second, wen flying in deep space or in hostile territory shut off your transponder bacause It makes you fleet way more visible.
    Third, stability is the most important thing in your colony, If the stability fall under 5 you will make less money, just bild more structures that improve It.
    Last you need to shut your shild off to fly faster in battle, the hellsmenship skill alow you to fly fast with your shild on i think.

    You can upgrade the military relays with money to become interstellar relays, but i do think you need a military base for that in system, wich also takes 1 industry slot since it produces marines. The relays increase spawned fleet size and there is a special item you can install in them. Its a really good and cheap building to have on planet if you have a building slot free.

    The simulation engine is shit IMO, the building where you have to put it needs to burn AI cores to work. You need a steady supply of them.
    There is a building (the update of the Patrol HQ) that with a domain item could work as com relay (but with a +2 instead of a +1 to stability) but you need to find it and it is VERY RARE to find, I only find one once in a random double dip.
    The Fussion lamp is mainly used to cheat the AI to raise the price of volatiles in an IA controlled planet. For example, going to a planet that produced them in bulk, buying everything they have, then going to a cold planet, sell them the lamp for good money, wait a little to the prices to update and them sell them every the number of volatiles they lack, not less, not more. Wait to their reserve to run out and repeat that trade run until you are made of gold.
