  • I'm so excited about this science resource that I found for next year! Mini units devoted to single subjects that I can fit in where I think they make sense in our homeschool. What could be better? In this video I share a look inside these "chunks".

    My name is Niki. I am a former high school chemistry & biology public school teacher turned homeschool mom of 4 kiddos. We are a secular homeschooling family, with a laid back schooling style. I'm a busy WAHM who just tries to stay afloat some days. But we would never change a thing!

    LOVE chunking information in any learning environment! I work with multiple homeschool moms to help them with the living curriculum of hydroponics. Hydroponics has helped them teach STEM concepts in real time.

    We love using books for learning!!! My older daughter is going thru a advanced placement program with Sonlight and we are taking it slowly for her but it’s awesome!!! The science chunks look awesome!!! We have tons of science books as well especially with having a kid doing homeschool pre med!!! My other kids fight me with science tho but she joins us with family science!!! My older kids love lap books!!! I’m ok with that as I also get a oral narration naturally!!!

      I agree! I think it is much more engaging to use interactive notebooks or lap books for an age! Thanks for watching and sharing!

    Oooo, I love views into new-to-me-sciences ! Science Chunks sounds great. Are there any video links included in the lessons? We've never really done unit studies before but this looks awesome. Thanks for sharing!

      There are not any video links contained within the lessons themselves, but if you are using the Usborne Science Encyclopedia, there are often times video links provided in the QR codes on each page. And Crash Course has some really great videos on so many topics. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for this overview. I prefer secular, but it's so hard to find anything relatively open and go that isn't a full year of a single science discipline. I might have to try one to see how it goes with my family.

      I agree. Science and history I tend to be really strict with secular. But I couldn't find anything I liked. So far I think this is going to work really well. Thanks for watching!

    There aren't many reviews or flip throughs of this newish curriculum so thank you for the preview. Do you happen to know, when you buy the bundle, if the lapbook materials are included? Or do you have to buy the digital lapbook materials separately? When you buy printed curriculum, the lapbook stuff isn't included. Thank you!

    • @Homeschoolology
      @Homeschoolology  Год назад +2

      The lapbook materials are located at the end of each unit within the same document. So everything you need for one unit is in one document. So yes!

    What made you choose this over their regular Elemental science? I'm trying to decide between the two lol.

    • @Homeschoolology
      @Homeschoolology  3 месяца назад +1

      Elemental Science is the company name. But we did not choice their Classical Science program because it is a more traditional year long science program and that just doesn't really fit our style of homeschooling. Also Elemental Science is a "neutral" company and not truly secular which means they avoid certain topics that I want to make sure we cover in our homeschool. Hope that helps!

    My science loving kid has minimal interest in the solar system. He has started showing more interest recently, but I didn't want to commit to a long time in this area. I have been using unit style studies for science but I want to switch companies. Do you think Elemental Chunks on astronomy would be better fit over REAL odyssey Astronomy 1?

    • @Homeschoolology
      @Homeschoolology  5 месяцев назад +1

      We did not really enjoy Real Odyssey. It is a little more in-depth than we were really wanting to go at the time of using it. I personal would use it for a high-school level, but not before then. It's just a little much when you are just wanting to hit the basics.
      I really like that Elemental Science Chunks are really easy to go as shallow or as deep as you want to go into the content. The flexibility is really nice and it covers all that you need for a basic understanding.
      Hope that helps!

      @Homeschoolology I'm planning for 1st grade next year and really struggling to figure out science.
      Real Science Odyssey might work when he's older, but I don't even understand how they market it for that young.
      Science Chunks looks perfect, flexible, but still organized. I can't find anything else that matches what I like about it, but wrestling with whether the neutral part should stop me from using it.

    • @Homeschoolology
      @Homeschoolology  3 месяца назад

      @@meganinserra3952 I will say I was hesitant at first as well. But I have used several and looked through even more and have not seen anything concerning. The only thing is that it does not cover things like big bang or evolution, but we are just doing our own thing for those topics.

    • @Homeschoolology
      @Homeschoolology  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes ma'am! You know I'm not using it specifically as directed, but we do love it still. We've only used 2, but I love the flexibility the provide for us to work on things my kiddos actually want to learn about and pick and choose how much we go in depth.
      And you know I love me some resource books and am so happy to get any chance to use them. LOL
