Yes! There are online charter schools that are free to the public, you just have to apply and be accepted. They all operate a little differently and vary by state. The one we “attend” assigns us a teacher for the year that we check in with regularly and submit samples of our work. They have organized clubs, classes, sports and events that we can sign up for if we want. They also provide funds for our school materials, we just have to buy from their approved vendor list, which is very large. And we can use the funds not only on curriculum but sports, books, or anything education related. It’s a great option to look into if you want funds, need some guidance or to be held accountable, or are looking for a community of homeschoolers!
Thank you for sharing. How long does experiment day take all in? We are using Sonlight HBL A, and love it, but my child talks so much it actually takes quite a time, 😃. Thinking all the questions and discuss sections in the discover and do experiments boo, it could take a good part of the day, 😬?
I feel like this age is definitely a chatty one too! Haha! I would say the experiments take probably 30 minutes on average, if I am prepared to go. I have split it up a bit before, with the actual experiment for one part, and then the discussion later. But I find that if I read through it all beforehand, it goes smoother!
Thank you! When I have looked at flip throughs, they look the same to me, and even the experiment kits look the same. But I can't be 100% sure. I bet the company knows if you reach out to them!
I would totally use it with a second grader!! It says up to age 7 too, which is usually the age kids are when entering second grade, but I felt like I enjoyed it as an adult too haha!
Hi my name is Chelsea. I want to say Thank you so much for this whole review. It was very thorough and very informative. I do have a question though so hopefully you reply back! I heard you said that it comes all lose and you can put it on a binder or have it spiral bounded… now does it come already in order as in the teacher guide and lessons? Or do I have to figure out the pages / order it all goes in?! I love how you separate the worksheets in binder for the kiddo but I’m nervous I won’t be able to figure it out lol it’s very expensive curriculum but I’m willing to do it since it has they lessons/ days already planned out in such detail as I know I didn’t find any other curriculum that had that it’s mostly I have to plan and it was just a lot on my load for each subject so this is nice how Bookshark does this and makes our life easier!! I just really love how your set up is very organized and straight to the point and easy to follow and that’s exactly how I want mine to be but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to know what pages goes with what or how to organize it and separate . Does the activity pages like yours come like with the week title on top of the pages? I kind of want to do the whole package with them meaning all subjects!! Bc that’s how much I love it but do it thru sonlight to get the Christian part out of it. We do use our own Bible study so I’m not sure if it’s necessary do to that with them but I love either one! If you can plz message me or even email me ( stayjersey732@aol.com ) for help and guidance I’ll really appreciate it!
I'm glad it was helpful! Everything comes in order and all organized. You can unwrap it and immediately put it into a binder as is! Most people leave the worksheets in the teacher's guide, but if you do decide to separate them they are all labeled. So if they were to fall on the ground and get all mixed up you could easily put them back in order because they are labeled. The worksheets are just behind each week overview page, so they are in the week you are currently on if you leave them where they are. And yes, if you want the Christian part, go with Sonlight.
This is cheaper than sonlight and looks the same to me .. I wonder if anyone has done a comparison because most of the book choices look the same … I’m about to buy sonlight but if this has the same stuff I could do this
A side by side comparison would be a great idea! The flip throughs I have seen of Sonlight look identical, but I imagine the teacher's guide has some religious content that Bookshark does not.
I've been eyeing new science curriculum for a couple of years now and Bookshark is looking really appealing. I appreciate this flip through!
We’ve really enjoyed it! Thanks for watching:)
Could you explain more about the charter funds?

Great review! Do you know if the experiment book is the exact same as the discover and do from sonlight?
Thank you! When I have looked at flip throughs, they look the same to me, and even the experiment kits look the same. But I can't be 100% sure. I bet the company knows if you reach out to them!
Thank you for the very thorough review. Do you think this level would be appropriate for a 2nd grader?
I would totally use it with a second grader!! It says up to age 7 too, which is usually the age kids are when entering second grade, but I felt like I enjoyed it as an adult too haha!
Thank you for the review. But soo expensive.
Very expensive! I don’t know if we would have done it without charter funds or not! But I do love it:)

@@karifacer thank you so much for the reply and thank you for the clarification!! Super helpful :)
I’m new to homeschooling so please forgive me if this is a silly question but how does this program last all school year?
Not a silly question at all! The program is 4 days a week for 36 weeks.
This is cheaper than sonlight and looks the same to me .. I wonder if anyone has done a comparison because most of the book choices look the same … I’m about to buy sonlight but if this has the same stuff I could do this

It's the same company just offering a religious and nonreligious option. They are out of CO.
