I truly thought I was the only mom overwhelmed by that curriculum you talked about at the end! I so loved the idea of all those books, but there’s endless busywork imo and it felt like we would be exhaustively milking each topic effectively draining the fun out of science. I love your idea to use the Smart Games for a little mental break! I have several, but it didn’t work for us to take one out and focus on it. I think it’ll be more appealing this way!
I have to use smart games as part of the routine or they wouldn't use them. "Play a game with mom." Is actually on their checklist. I just want us to play more games together lol so I made it kinda mandatory.
Ha, i was just going to buy SONLight Science. Did you get all the books? I was just going to get the teachers guide, books & experiment VIDEOS- and NOT BUY the experiment kit & book. That part sounds awful to me. Im not an experiment mother.
Do not listen to this lady. She deleted my comment here on this video. She has totally slandered this curriculum with utter falsehoods. The experiments are not overwhelming at all. I almost listened to her video which she made 8/9 months where she again spouted utter rubbish. Thank goodness I also listen to ‘science mama,’ on RUclips who clarified how the science works. You don’t buy more IG and experiment books for extra students. You purchase one complete program. If you can get the books from the library you’ll save, but I personally tried when I got my first HBL, getting books second hand, the saving was soo small and the books not new. Ideally purchase a complete program. For any additional students you can purchase an extra experiments packet and activity sheets. That’s it. If your kids are little this isn’t even necessary because most parents use those orally to check comprehension or fill those out as a family. In the video she goes on about having to buy an experiments books for each kid in order to access the experiment sheets, (she refers to them as templates) well those sheets in the books are included again as a loose packet in the program. If your students want to all have their own experiment sheets, you can add on an extra experiment packet. With regards to what she said about having to buy an IG for each student, 🙄🙄, this is utter rubbish. If you want extra activity sheets, (a set is included in the ig) you can add on a set of activity sheets. I believe the paper packets are $14-18. So for each additional student if you wanted to and yours are older, all you would order is an extra activity sheet packet $14 and an extra experiment packet $14. I recommend getting the experiment box and that’s included when you purchase the science program, it’s not a huge box and she is moaning about digging out a few pieces. We are in B and some bits in the experiments box you may use twice so bagging it wouldn’t work, unless they doubled up which would add more weight and cost to box. The experiments are once a week and so simple and brilliant. The experiment day is a whole lesson and reading through the experiment with my kids is simple, not at all overwhelming. Also right now they have videos for A and B and they are brilliant. Please don’t listen to her.
