  • Generation Genius Versus Mystery Science
UPDATE: Generation Genius no longer offers a homeschool option.
This has been one of my most requested video topics.
We used ‪@GenerationGenius‬ for our homeschool science last year and are using ‪@MysterySci‬ this year.
We did decide to switch away from Generation Genius.
It was really the preference of my girls and they have yet to regret their decision.
Generation Genius is amazing but that didn't make it a perfect fit for us.
You really can not go wrong with either program.
We have used and enjoyed both.
right now, Mystery Science is a better fit for my girls.
    Next up, middle school science!!

Hi! and thank you for this video!! Last year, we used the free version of Mystery Science and liked it a lot, so this year, we have been using the paid version. However, I was going to join Generation Genius next year, thinking that their program had more lessons, etc. After watching your video, I can see that MS will still be better for us. Thanks again!

Appreciate this! The bonus that Generation Genius has is that it goes up to the higher grade. I wish Mystery Science did. I feel like these would compliment what we have with Pandia Press (curriculum wise).

hmmm. This was interesting. Good to see both. I would say that I love Generation Genius and their super easy related home experiments and that their videos, content, thought provoking questions and vocabulary gets to the point. For additional learning or diving deeper....it would be easy to use related living books or finding other videos online. There is so much out there.

Since this video was posted, GG changed their pricing structure, and that plays more heavily into decisions.

So so helpful! It looks like Mystery Science is organized more-there are units and numbered lessons so you have an order to follow if you want. We have recently gotten the GG math as a supplement and I like it doesn’t give you a suggested sequence and that would be frustrating to me trying to use it as a full curriculum.
I’ve also been looking at Science Mom for next year (4th/5th for us), but I’m looking at the free earth science course. The others seemed expensive. Some other folks suggested RSO which is really popular. We tried the Chemistry 1 and it was a flop! Science is so hard to find a great program! Hope you find something new to love!

We are using Mystery science alongside TGAB science. Most of their videos pair up nicely with the unit studies and offer a little more depth! GG have great boxes but they are not homeschool friendly as a company and recently removed the HS plan. They could be so great....MS don't offer homeschool kits either but the curriculum is great.

We do Generation Genius through our online public charter school. We love it but we are homeschooling on our own next year so not sure I want to pay for it again as I'm pretty sure we have gone through most of the lessons. We don't have full access because the school just gives us links.
Hey I know you were doing Studies Weekly at one point. Did you end up liking it? We are required to do it through the school and I do not like it. Can't wait to be done and fully on my own next year! 3 more months!

I used it for Texas History. What are you using it for? I did like it better once we started using the online resources. I'm not sure if you have access to those. There were games and you could have it read aloud. The girls collected points.

Hello! Many thanks this, very helpful! Is MS the only curriculum that you are using for science? My concern is if it is rich enough to give the kids a well rounded scientific knowledge during those early elementary years… I’d love it to be because switching between different science resources is rather exhausting. Thanks!
