What I’ve taken from this video is perhaps I need to be more trusting and less suspicious of people. If someone I’d recently met offered to take me on a tour into a slum I’d had definitely said no, but perhaps that says more about my character than it does about others. When travelling as a tourist I always assume that I’m going to be scammed / ripped off.
Owen yes it’s okay to give people the benefit of doubt even if you don’t know them but there’s nothing wrong with being cautious either when being a foreigner alone in a country you know nothing about
well listen to you inner voice.. def dont blindly trust people...you can feel energy and it will tell you if its safe...
I've been scammed once or twice while traveling. You live, you learn.

So if you want to see slums, go to europe or if you don't want to go even that far, just go to mexico. It has worlds second largest slum. Dharavi is worlds fourth largest.

i came across your videos accidentally (preparing myself to go to india - half volunteering and half travelling). i was drawn to the way you perceive the surroundings - with openess, curiosity and capability to wisely assess the situation. l find myself a lot in the way you wander around and try to meet the locals. have a feeling that you are one of the rare people l would be able to travel with, especially on such overwhealming destinations. your videos are extremely helpful and thank you immensely for them! may your life be full of this eyeopening and blissfull moments :)

A visit to the slums of India with a "business" partner you just met, whose practice of obtaining funds could not be disclosed for legal reasons... Sounds legit to me! You got some balls my friend. Excellent videos, I am hooked.
I been travelling to India every year for 6 years with my wife we go to weddings & family stuff in NavSari, Gujarat and then go & chill in Colva/Quepem South Goa. I always feel at home in India it’s both humbling & friendly experience. This year took a trip to Kochi, Kerala before the storm hit - it was good trip met some wonderful people overnight train journey is interesting def go A/C

I feel claustrophobic and stressed just watching the walk those narrow city alleys! Every part of my city instincts would be scared (no idea what's happening around me, tons of distractions, endless hiding places for people to come out of, and I'd be lost!)... But I am amazed how friendly and positive all of those folks are. How they still have something of a home. How they're working, helping others, and how ordinary their lives are. The kids seem so happy, clean, and well cared for. They have a community and support (That litter, pollution, ect. everywhere ia crazy tho!). So different from the slums in the US! Thank you so much for sharing this!

In love with what you are doing mate ! Absolutely delightful to see your approach towards life. So humble and always so grateful and positive towards everything. I was born in India but I never got a chance to visit the slums like this. Although I have travelled extensively in India visiting small towns and villages like hampi in Karnataka ( must visit ) it's a epic place and I couldn't agree more these bunch of kids and oldies are the happiest and kindest people. It's pure joy to see their smiles and how they enjoy life without all the riches. I live in Melbourne now and miss India everyday :)) that country is something:) so much to learn from ! Well I wish you more happiness and safe travels further in your life. Cheers

India is diverse from north to south.... people are different all over india.... and mumbai is the place which brings all the people together...... if you live in mumbai you can live anywhere
Nick, although this Vlog was made a year ago, I am STUNNED at the kindness and the generosity of the Indian people of Mumbai. Also what stuck me here, is something I've heard all of my life that seems to be true! "The happiest and most GIVING people are those who are poor" by comparison to the Industrialized nations. You are in your twenties. When you get to be 50, what stories you can tell your grandchildren!

my anxiety is too bad to leave the country which is why I love watching nick, he doesnt go to the tourist spots. he shows exactly what I wanted to know n see which is how ppl of other countries live everyday. it adds perspective n it also shows the extreme need of resources in other countries which we tend to ignore
You can overcome this! I was also scared a few years ago now I have been to a lot of countries for example to turkey and morocco this year and it‘s the best thing I‘ve ever done!

Can you tell me which country does not have homeless people , street side shelters which you guys call it as slums . The only thing is media of your country does not shows bad part of town so people never come to know about it . India has 6th largest GDP (nominal) and 3rd largest GDP in purchasing . Yes per capita income is Low but that’s rising very fast . Before judging somebody else’s country look at your’s first.

You are definitely the best on You Tube for unbiased and varied content. The gentlemen definitely deserved some type of compensation, for sure. Maybe funds to their slum schools or their lunch programs for the kids or those in need. Perhaps, groceries to their households. That was great! I imagine they went in debt to be helpful, kind and informative.

Most of them are great. Sporadic cases of scamming foreigners can't make "most of them" bad and dishonest. Actually you know what, indophobia is very prevalent in the west. This guy makes a video about indian slum(obviously the first thing foreigners prefer in India is slums) and lots and lots of negativity rises up in the comment section. Now the coronavirus gives rise to sinophobia too. You westners can't and never will accept the development of Asia. But who cares, I'm from Kolkata and many slums here are dissapearing fast, sooner or later you guys will not be left with any other slums to film. Now India has problems, huge huge problems, but India doesn't deserve this much negativity. In virtually all videos there must be a bad comment about India. So nasty!!

And show u another level where there is more nature and less humans. And to hear in the end that they paid for almost everything, just incredible what you experienced with them. Quite a different view of the world. These are the types of things that I want to expose my children to. Little do they the know how privileged they are to have the basics in life. This goes to show you that you really don't need much to be happy.

I noticed the Satellite television dish on some of the homes in slum.
Pretty much everyone has a satellite and mobile data connection , its SUPER cheap here ... ( I'm paying 300rs for 2gb data per day for 3 months)( 300rs is about 3us dollars...)

Rishikesh, varanasi, shimla, delhi?... no idea where buts its about experiences on the journey. Nice to see you experience everything in india(good/bad/mediocre), was watching another persons india vlog and they were staying at 5star gurgaon hotel and price there is $350-500 a night. Nothing wrong with that but feels pointless, what youre experiencing cant really be replicated. Where else can you experience a cash crisis, getting sick, poverty, opulence, etc etc.
None of those places :o Thanks mate, i always try my hardest to see every part of a country like you say, the good, the bad and the ugly. And yes, all these experiences are irreplaceable. This trip is extremely challenging but has so many lessons nestled inside the challenges, so for that I am grateful. Thank you for the comment my friend. Take care.

This proves that just because your poor doesn't mean you have to be dangerous and violent Indian people seem pretty nice. Other poor countries that he was in were not this safe.
at about 13:08, with the fire on the hillside, an Indian guy seems to say. "This is Oregon".....I live in Oregon. Is it possible he said that? We do have forest fires in the summer, with a huge one burning as I type in the wildenerness in south-central Oregon. I won''t be surprised if I didn't understand him correctly, but what a surprise if I did.

i wouldn't call that a bad slum i would say that is above average for a working class area. Other slums are polluted with plastic, feeces and rotting food. Flooding in the rains and without sewerage or water.
