I haven't been to India since 1996. I was a woman alone, traveling with a backpack and Lonely Planet Guidebook, and the changes I've seen via videos such as yours are really amazing. One thing that strikes me since then is the growth of wealth in that country. It looks like some of it has trickled down and a more prosperous middle class is rising. What shocked me the most about India was all the homeless living on the streets, making cardboard shelters by rivers in the countryside and everywhere they weren't driven off. I didn't realize I was seeing a preview of what's now becoming a familiar sight in America -- homeless people everywhere. The economy has shifted again towards places with lots of excess people who will work in factories for pennies, relocating wealth once again. I'd go back if I could, but NOT alone and with a backpack at my age of 75.

I am really Impressed by the knowledge of the taxi driver, that he perfectly understands that who are the people which are contributing in growth of India's economy. I personally have immense respect for jamshedji tata, ratan tata, etc and till now I have seen that the rickshaw drivers and taxi drivers worshipping and assuming bollywood stars as the real face of India but today I got to know that each and every person are now understanding that who are the real contributors which gave their everything to the country by neglecting personal greed, wealth and richness. Hats off to the new reforming India 🙏🤙
We have been in Mumbai and the taxi driver was bitching about sharukh khan because he blocked an alley behind his house and worshipping salman khan for his charity. knowing this on ground level was so good.
Visited then Bombay in 1991 as a 6 year old child. This city looks completely changed. Mumbai so developed now. Hope to get some more time out of life and this city one more time once more.
I was there in 2015 and can see massive changes to the city since then (for the better), I can only imagine how far it is going to get in the next few years!

I sometimes wonder why do poor live in such mega cities - why cant people move to a smaller town where the cost of living is O.1% of Mumbai - I have never been to Mumbai even that city is just 1 hour by flight from my place - I dnt need to go to Mumbai - cost of living in my city is half of the cost of living in Mumbai

Hey just wanted to let you know, that your raw optimistic thoughts about Mumbai really are very much alike me, shocking is that you being a tourist understood the city so well, so kudos, the fact that while talking about the bright future mentioning about the hurdles it face in its complete transformation is also a good point, as one should also look at the point of improvements at the same time while expecting a bright future. I hope your trip was wonderful, do visit India again, Thank You, Atithi Devo Bhava! Jai Hind!
Very nice video man. India is just amazing. Its a big big country with a huge population. So yes it will take time to actually become a developed nation. Cities are developing just like Mumbai u showed. I think Government must try to control the growth of population . That will really help. 💘 from Nagaon, Assam 🇮🇳
Controlling population growth will have adverse affects down the line. China's one child policy is showing its affects now that their population is naturally slowing down. Besides every state apart from UP and Bihar already have birth rates lower than the world average.
I spent a few weeks in India about 20 years ago and it was the most interesting country I’ve ever visited. Thank you for taking us along on your journey! (I’m also reading Ikigai and paid full price. 😂)
Dharavi might be a slum but that area generates 1 billion US$ each year. The people there have the money to feed themselves, it's just that they are stuck there for some reason.
Slum development project is under process in Mumbai(especially dharavi slum) Deadline of the project is 2031/32 More than 300000 slum dwellers will be shifted to newly constructed residential areas 👍@@thisnthat7760
Tourists seem shocked that a rich city like Mumbai can also house Asia's largest slum, Dharavi. I believe India should be proud that it does not displace its poor like China does.
I really loved that you showed the modern side of india most of the foreigners show slums only i mean that they might enjoy the modern side but when it comes to upload a video they only show the dark side (slums, poor areas) you showed both and thats the thing i respect and i know mumbai will get fully developed by 2030
The taxi driver expressed with conviction how Ratan Tata has contributed not only as a corporate figure but also as a compassionate individual. Thats the thing Tata has Earn in the society.
HI Gabi. Interestingly, Mumbai is the safest city in India for travelers and everyone is helpful, especially when you use public transport. Try the famous vada pao and pan fried pao bhaji at street corners, it is hot food and safe. Glad to see you in my old home town, been 20 years since I was in Mumbai and it sure looks great. Thank you for the visual experience and your commentary is superb, original and flows so well.
Tired of this cliche, "where rich and poor live together". It happens in London, Luton UK, Manchester UK, Rotherham UK, Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, SanFransisco. But the difference is, no one dares to take a camera and walk around those areas, film everyone and come back alive . Thats the difference between an Indian slum and the rest. In London, you wont come out alive from a slum if you point camera at the gypsies or the muslims, but Indian slums are full of enterprise, those people are just living there because they cant afford the rents in Mumbai
I'm a fellow Indian. Why do you have to run away from the truth? Mumbai is indeed a city of extremes. Learn to accept it and not think of it as such a bad thing. Also about slums in the USA, you're confusing low income neighbourhoods with slums I think. The main difference between the west and slums in India or the favelas in Brazil is the density of houses and basic infrastructure. Sure there may be homeless people living in the roads but that isn't a slum. Slums are large areas where a very large number of people live closely packed and the streets are not wide enough for a car to pass through. Slums were present in cities like London historically but most of them have been removed and now every building or house can be reached by a car which means it is not a slum anymore. In the US you can still see temperory establishments made by the homeless at someplaces which can turn into slums if left alone and it grows but at the moment they are too small and too temperory to be called slums.
@@nnlniclb When I visited New York and other parts of US, my relatives warned me, don't go to this place, it's dangerous, don't go there alone, you'll be robbed for sure etc etc. I wanted a good picture of Manhattan and I was told the best view is from Brooklyn. But everyone completely stopped me from visiting there alone. And finally one cousin agreed to take me, not before it's too late and have to leave quickly, because he was really frightened to get out of the car. No go zones in Europe, especially in the UK, like Brampton, Luton, Manchester, Telford, Rotherham etc are world famous and there are so many reports and videos available on that. Similarly, there are no go zones in almost all European countries. There are videos of people getting harassed and bullied in these areas But when i visited Mumbai and Delhi, no one told me similar things. I had visited almost all parts of Delhi and Mumbai as a backpacker alone, and everywhere I felt safe, even at night.
The people living in those slums arent in poverty. Their daily income is well above the poverty scale. However, Mumbai has a housing problem. The moment they are provided with basic apartments, things will look much better.
Hi Gabi! Loved your comparison between both sides of Mumbai. The fourth part, Fort area is filled with ancient buildings like you pointed out. They are relics and buildings from British colonial period hence they are looking like churches. The office that you saw was the Mumbai Government Office which is popularly known as Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Palika (BMC). The book street you see is very popular in Mumbai. In BKC, Mukesh Ambani has started a mall known as Jio World Drive. It is a bit on the expensive side but you should visit if and when you visit Mumbai next time. You should also try the metro in Mumbai and other cities which is just like subways in other countries.
Most of Mumbai is pretty nice. There are some small pockets of slums here and there but those are disappearing pretty quickly. Went there a month ago and looks a lot different from what it did 8 years ago when I was there. But there's a lot of construction everywhere which can be very frustrating
Hey man, you have no idea how much i apreciate this video youve made because people come and show the bad side of mumbai and deliberately leave out this part of mumbai causing the western world to have no idea how India actually is. Appreciate you.

India is not poor but the Gap between rich and poor are very very high.😢
That is poor bro 😂 don’t hide or it will never fix
Unbelievable how there is such extreme between rich and poor in the same city.
Not true, India has a booming middle class.
why is it unbelievable - how abt Cities likes Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, London ? I sometimes wonder why do poor live in such mega cities - why cant people move to a smaller town where the cost of living is O.1% of Mumbai - I have never been to Mumbai even that city is just 1 hour by flight from my place - I dnt need to go to Mumbai - cost of living in my city is half of the cost of living in Mumbai
Buddy the people who live in slum has more money than any middle class.bcz they took over the scrap business of Mumbai
Important thing is we live with love , share same food, and beleive in our system.
Atleast we don't go for wooden houses

Very nice video man. India is just amazing. Its a big big country with a huge population. So yes it will take time to actually become a developed nation. Cities are developing just like Mumbai u showed. I think Government must try to control the growth of population . That will really help. 💘 from Nagaon, Assam 🇮🇳
Controlling population growth will have adverse affects down the line. China's one child policy is showing its affects now that their population is naturally slowing down. Besides every state apart from UP and Bihar already have birth rates lower than the world average.

Dharavi might be a slum but that area generates 1 billion US$ each year. The people there have the money to feed themselves, it's just that they are stuck there for some reason.

@@thisnthat7760The slums literally have houses with AC and a bike/cars Lmao. India has optical poverty more than actually poverty.
I think the slum will be there forever. It's hard to move 2 million people.

What about for education ? I from South, chennai I'm looking for higher studies in Mumbai? Is it worth?
There are videos of people getting harassed and bullied in these areas
But when i visited Mumbai and Delhi, no one told me similar things. I had visited almost all parts of Delhi and Mumbai as a backpacker alone, and everywhere I felt safe, even at night.
@nnlniclb have you seen the tent cities of LA or San Francisco?
It's because of way the 'money system' is structured.

The people living in those slums arent in poverty. Their daily income is well above the poverty scale.
However, Mumbai has a housing problem. The moment they are provided with basic apartments, things will look much better.
In Mumbai even middle class people struggle to find decent flats to rent. The rents are astronomical and traffic too bad.
