Don was a true sweetheart. "Mister Warmth" was not said in irony; it was a true description. His comedy was insulting, but in real life, nobody was sweeter. When you see him bantering with Carson and others, that's just his schtick. Watch for when he takes a moment to flash that smile at his friends. He loved deeply.

If you, out there, can find a rebroadcast of The Big Interview With Dan Rather, it is well worth watching. I found that it showed the humble, sensitive side of Mr. Rickles. Rip, Mr Warmth.

What a guy. Barbara was sweet too. Their whole group treated us well. I worked Security for his show, brought him to/from his room, to the show, and dinner and back. Man I miss Don.

@Elmer-hf1je Oh yes they were. I'd like to throw Tony Randall(from tv's Odd Couple) in the mix. He was quite a character and delight to see on Carson's show.

Mainly because I always thought he was such a jerk, always belittling people. This video shows what a fine actor he was! I'm really surprised at what a great person he was in real life. To find out that he and Bob were such close friends was a real eye-opener.
As an old boomer I grew up with these guys. I had Newhart’s comedy albums, along with Mel Brooks’ 2000 yr old man, george Carlin, & of course the now disgraced Cosby. To me, these were foundational comedians, the comic equivalent of Renoir or Beethoven. I really miss all these guys.

I loved Bob Newhart and later found Jack Benny again. It reminded me that I had heard Jack Benny when I was a kid. Jack and Bob do this head movement or gesture, When something is happening in their act they would turn their head around toward the back like they were looking for help or confirmation that something is weird. Hilarious. I see young comedians do it too. Thinking of them as buddies are great to think about!

So he introduced me and explained that I had worked many years in the entertainment industry and Mr. Rickles said to me " so what am I supposed to be impressed?" and I said it's nice to meet you too.
What went on TV was clean, Rickles could be blue as the sky. Just because a joke is tame by our standards doesn't mean it wasn't pushing the envelope of the time. I saw an interview Red Skelton gave where he talked about a joke he made in a Vaudville act that was merely suggestive that got them arrested.
OMG...I got to the part when Bob Newhart sings. It is awesome. And there must be something in the water in Chicago... I saw Bill Murray for a moment. This is just an incredible interview.

@@jjryan1352 dry bar does a pretty good job. I would say at least half of them get me to chuckle.
Watch the Don Rickles show outtakes if you want to hear Don using vulgarities.
Ditto that! ,standards have changed,Guess entertainment industry isn't listening anymore.
Two legends right here. Two of my top five comedians ever.
Thanks for sharing this! Never saw it--quite a treat.
Thanks for posting. These are my two favorites in comedy
I didn't realize how great Phil Hartman's impersonation was of Donahue until i saw this.
I liked his anal retentive chef.
Here for Rickles. Big thanks to the uploader!

Great video. Thank you!!!
OMG...I got to the part when Bob Newhart sings. It is awesome. And there must be something in the water in Chicago... I saw Bill Murray for a moment. This is just an incredible interview.
