Thank you to the Newharts for letting us have a peek into their private life and friendship with the Rickles. They were very lucky people to have such a profound friendship.
Judd you seem to never fail to bring.... humor, sweet, gentle, affectionate humor. Feeling nostalgic and sad, especially today, my beloved husband who passed a week ago, it is his birthday today, would have treasured this gift you brought us all today.
I like Newhart so much - loved both his famous shows and yes his commitment to his wife and family was so admirable. I did think his friendship with Rickles was confusing until you see the love they have for one an other. He's 94 now and I am so pleased he has lived a wonderful life - so deserved.
20:48 Comedians like Newhart and Rickles should be eligible as nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. You can't fight someone else if you're both laughing along with great comedy. I'm 66 and I've laughed for half a century with these two great men.
Isn't it just fantastic that two of the funniest men that ever lived happened to have two of the greatest wives and got to be the greatest of friends, too.
Love this. Judd also honored Garry Shandling with a great documentary after he passed on and I think it's great that he's doing it as these are comedians who deserve as much remembrance as possible
I was already tearing up as the documentary progressed but when Don Rickles sang at the end I started bawling. I am so grateful for the humor that Don Rickles brought to my life and the humanity dignity respect and love that he promoted as a human being.
Judd, thank you is not enough to capture this and preserve the true comedy of an era gone by but never forgotten. I was fortunate to meet both and never laughed so hard. So well done, Judd!
I grew up in Argentina, have lived in the USA longer than my birth country, but as a believer in family and friendship I have adored these four for ever! Example of how humanity should treat one another! ❤ bless them!
Two great comedians, two very different styles. Newhart was a class act. Rickles was a wonderful insult comedian, and celebs would feel insulted if he DID NOT go after them. He made us laugh at ourselves. We need another Rickles again, we’ve forgotten how to laugh.
What a wonderful documentary! My parents loved them, my husband and I love Newhart & Rickles, American Treasures~ wish we could have seen their Vegas shows. Newhart is now 94, amazing! Rest in peace his wife Ginnie, Don Rickles and his Barbara.
I've watched this twice in 2 days, their friendship is exactly the same as my dad and my godfather. They are both in heaven now and life isn't quite as funny or as colorful without them. A wonderful film. Thank you very much for posting this.
I'm in England. We never had Don's shows here, or the roasts, but he did appear on TV on the very odd occasions. Bob's series was shown here, and I never missed an episode. When the internet happened he was one of the first Comedians I looked for. Incredibly clever and funny.
How rich their lives were, to have such wonderful friends, to travel together, to share laughter and create memories like that. Oh so lucky ! Beautiful docu. Loved it.
I can’t believe they’re all gone now. But they had such great lives, families and friendships. Not everyone can say that. They will be missed and always loved. ❤❤❤
Wow, loved both of these men! Those were the days, the golden years. We'll never see anything like this again. Breaks my heart but the memories are wonderful!
In such hate filled times its refreshing and live affirming to hear of their friendship. We used to see the best in each other now we want to see the worse.
Thank you Judd. Thank you Newhart's. This should be introduced to the library of congress. May the all greats live on. There would not be comedy without them.
I’d forgotten about their friendship. Pair of geniuses. My parents owned the first Newhart and I think Driving Instructor was one of the earliest external influences on my own sense of humour. What a beautiful piece of film.
"I miss them.. I'm going to cry". wow... that was so beautifully moving that sums up a beautiful, full and fulfilled life. it's sad but I know it shouldn't be, this documentary is one of the most moving things one of the best friendship pieces I've seen in my whole life and it shows you the value of friendship of love of camaraderie, but also life's journey all journeys come to an end and that's the part that sucks of getting older but the constellation prize is for the blessed individuals that have full lives beautiful friendships and wonderful memories thanks Judd.
This is so beautifully made, it’s delicate, it’s compassionate and it’s sweet. I actually cried watching this - I’ve never had a friend like this. Beautiful ❤
Ginnie passed in April this year. Bob's the last one of the four still kicking. What a life to have lived. What a group of classy, great people.
you must really enjoy all the time you spent with them..vacations dinners..holiday visits......o wait...you know NOTHING about these people....
@@jadezee6316
How unnecessary.
@@jadezee6316you don’t have to spend time with someone to know these things if it’s public knowledge. I don’t see the issue here.
agree
there's literally video of their vacations and dinners... you've got two eyes, use them. and the brain too, if you can @@jadezee6316
Thank you to the Newharts for letting us have a peek into their private life and friendship with the Rickles.
They were very lucky people to have such a profound friendship.
Dear Judd Apatow, thank you for allowing the New Yorker to put this on RUclips for free.
They are all together now. 💔🇨🇦
❤
I cried 😢👋🇨🇦
I'm still crying! @@Mrstigger747
Now Phil is with them too 🥲
Judd Apatow, thank you for being smart enough to capture these moments, with the warm respect you always show to the great comedians. You're a mensch.
RIP to a Generation of Friends
Their longevity in comedy, marriage, and friendship speaks volumes.
This is the best film Judd Apatow has ever made.
The ending to the Newhart Show was THE BEST!
Dreaming :-):-):-):-):-)
Wear more sweaters 😂
That ending was utter genius! It set the standard no show has been able to match since!
The four of them reunited now 😊
💛💛💛💛
They are laughing and happy!❤🙏🏻
They’re in one tomb?
@NetCerpher
Yes.
Their families insisted.
I hadn’t realized both Barbara and Ginnie have now passed. What a life these folks lived together♥️
The world will never see their like again both as entertainers and as human beings. They were a special foursome
Indeed. True friendship is so rare! The only mortive for friendship was the respect& love they shared.🎉
What a beautiful documentary not bout comics, not bout laughter, but bout friendship. Very well done.
I used to see the Newharts and Rickles dining at The Beverly Hills Hotel on Easter. Happy folks enjoying life together.
Judd you seem to never fail to bring.... humor, sweet, gentle, affectionate humor. Feeling nostalgic and sad, especially today, my beloved husband who passed a week ago, it is his birthday today, would have treasured this gift you brought us all today.
I'm sorry about your husband. Such a hard thing at the holidays. I lost mine 3 years ago
🙏❤
I'm sad today too my friend. These guys are great and were a part of my childhood.❤
❤A loving tribute to two great men
My condolences for the loss of your beloved husband.💔 RIP to him. 🙏
Don Rickles was a monster of comedian. The best of the best period.
I like Newhart so much - loved both his famous shows and yes his commitment to his wife and family was so admirable. I did think his friendship with Rickles was confusing until you see the love they have for one an other. He's 94 now and I am so pleased he has lived a wonderful life - so deserved.
That’s a real friendship. It’s the paradigm for friendship. Shalom and RIP Don & Barbara.
I'm not crying, I just have something in both of my eyes.
Two legends that should not be forgotten. Amazing job Mr. Apatow, Thank You.
They’re all together now, thanks for all the laughs and joy ♥️
Did not expect to be moved. Legends and Friendship never dies.

Me too!! Love both of these comedic genius’s and their lovely wives!! They broke the mold!
This was such a gift. Thank you. RIP to the Newharts and to the Rickles.
What greater gift than a friendship like this. We should all be so lucky.
Isn't it just fantastic that two of the funniest men that ever lived happened to have two of the greatest wives and got to be the greatest of friends, too.
It’s a wonderful thing ❤
It was very similar with George Burns and Gracie Allen with Jack Benny and Mary Livingston.
George Burns and Jack Benny were the dearest of friends
Judd, your love for both men shines through
Beautiful. We should all have such friends
Love this. Judd also honored Garry Shandling with a great documentary after he passed on and I think it's great that he's doing it as these are comedians who deserve as much remembrance as possible
Can only be watched in HBO max...after spending half a day figuring out where to watch.. hahah
@@kannan3801 I would post it on here but HBO or a music rights holder would take it down
@@kannan3801 thanks
Watching this, shows how you can have lifetime friendship with people who are opposite of your nature. Rest in Peace to all four.
Entertainer personas very different + off-screen human natures exactly the same = lifetime friendship.
All together again 😊
Their families' long friendship is so beautiful to know about. ❤
I was already tearing up as the documentary progressed but when Don Rickles sang at the end I started bawling. I am so grateful for the humor that Don Rickles brought to my life and the humanity dignity respect and love that he promoted as a human being.
Si did I!

What a treasure these guys were.
What an incredible and special relationship between them all. Lovely people.
How lovely! Such a wonderful tribute to two of the monoliths of comedy and a side we never get to see as fans. Loved it.
Can you have two monoliths? Kinda defeats the purpose of a monolith.
Yes, you can have two monoliths. The "mono" doesn't mean the only one in existence.
❤ “Valentino thinks she’s part of the family.”
Thank you all for making this possible!
I used to stay up and watch Carson with Rickles. It was fantastic and still makes me laugh. This is a wonderful documentary.
RIP and Godspeed to this fabulous foursome. What a wholesome group of people. A very well done documentary. Thank you!
This documentary is such a treat! Grateful it was done before Virginia passed. They are all such great people, truly a gift to humanity.
What a great way to remember their friendship...
I always felt bad for Don and his wife when they lost their son Larry - no parent should outlive their children - RIP
I always thought that, and now I know. Decades on it brings me to tears.
I grew up in Argentina, have lived in the USA longer than my birth country, but as a believer in family and friendship I have adored these four for ever! Example of how humanity should treat one another! ❤ bless them!

What a great mini-doc! Almost like a sequel to Don's 'Mr. Warmth'. Brought back a lot of memories, laughs and envy of their friendship.

Judd,
Thank you *SO MUCH* for sharing this little slice of Bob's and Don's lives with us.

Thank you so much for making this Judd! I sorely miss having Don Rickles on this planet RIP
This was beautifully done. Don's comedy might have a hard time getting off the ground today but I think he had a lot of love in his heart.

Thanks for the memories!!! How special these wonderful people are and were!
"You've got to end your act with a dead person of some kind." Clever touch, Judd.

How awesome! I grew up watching/listening to these guys! Another great thing about being a GenXer!
And boomer, gen x was very young at this time.
I was the associate director on Don’s sitcom “ Daddy Dearest” . Without a doubt he was one of the sweetest people I’ve known.
Thank you so much for shining a spotlight on these two legends and such a beautiful friendship.
What a wonderful generation of entertainers.
