Professional to Nightmare - On average the Time was 50% longer to complete the mission in Nightmare mode, while having a marginal 13% increase in Rewards. Chance of missing a Ghost does also increase due to lack of a single Evidence type, and chance of dying in a hunt will increase due to waiting for evidence to finally proc, or baiting out a hunt.
Professional to Insanity - 256% increase in rewards whilst also being around a 50% increase in time per mission. Due to the fact that the chance to get an evidence to proc, and it only being one evidence , you are not only going to get hunted, but are more than likely going to require that hunt hunt in order to tell what the ghost is, thus increasing your chances of dying. You also have a higher chance at getting the ghost incorrect, if you get unlucky, or you don't know your Ghosts well.
Professional to Nightmare with Death Run Removed - Still running at a 50% increase in time over Professional, the reward does see a dramatic increase of about 66%.

My Conclusion - If you still new to the game, and are using Tier 1, and you want to consistently increase your level, Professional would be the better alternative to Nightmare, while if you know you your ghosts, and have tier 2 items to increase the chances of getting Evidences, you're actually better off on Insanity over Nightmare, as they take on average the same amount of time, but with a far higher payout in general. However, this only extends to the small maps, as larger maps would see a drastic difference in Averages, either for the better or worse.

I still prefer the grinding on Camp Woodwind but because it kind of trains my eyes to look out for blinking, morphing, freezing breath, speed etc. during a hunt. : )
i tried a woodwind game, got insta hunted and killed, never again lol well until teir 2-3 stuff

@@patootie3529 sadly for me on the bigger maps i mostly get phantoms or wraiths that insta teleport to me as soon as the hunt starts so am practicing figuring the ghost out on ridgeview and tanglewood before going back to camp

Even though I don’t play Phasmo, I enjoy listening to Insym’s videos. He’s very good at explaining things without being condescending (usually xD) or boring, and he clearly enjoys what he’s doing.
The occasional breaks into terrified shrieks as he runs for his damn life is definitely a bonus. xD

I generally like to go for perfect hunts. So I setup a custom that is basically a professional run with 4x multiplier. It's a good balance of difficulty. Mostly by setting 0 hunt grace period and a couple small changes like heavy rain. If you manage sanity and be careful with hunts it usually doesn't get you killed. lol.

@insym I love all of your videos and how well you describe the items and game mechanics! I have not played phasmo in a few years and really want to get back into it but last time I played there were only like 10 ghosts and basic mechanics/ items and now I find it very overwhelming. I was wondering if you could make a video explaining the ghosts and how to tell which ghost it is and explaining their characteristics, speeds, and how to differentiate between them? Just a request as I would love to learn more info. Love your videos and thanks for all the info you give us daily you are the best
I personally recommend Maggstor’s videos in the meantime, she has recently done videos on how to identify ghost speeds and all the ghosts unique abilities in a enjoyable format. Helped me start to learn how to identify ghosts. Hope this helps ❤

Been loving these update videos. I play on professional but since the update getting the third evidence either takes forever or never happens and the ghosts tend to change rooms a lot. It's been a pain in the butt.
Custom Setting: Baby Nightmare
Preset to Nightmare
Change the following
Contract:
- Sanity Monitor back on
- Activity Monitor back on
- Cursed Items set to 0
- Weather set to Heavy Rain (if you want that 0.05 push to get it back to 4x)
Ghost:
- Event Frequency set to Low
- Evidence give set to 3
- Fingerprints duration set to 60 seconds
This results in a x3.95 (or x4 if you set it to Heavy Rain), but you get your activity monitors and all 3 evidence, at the cost of having Cursed Items, Events frequency (less photo ops), and you'll need to be quick with fingerprints.
This feels like the best in-between stage for Professional to Nightmare.
Runs should still be quicker because the option of having all 3 evidences is there when ghost behavior isn't sealing the deal fast enough.

I messed around a bit more and found I was comfortable with removing sprint, and lowering grace time to 1 second, but changing the room switching to never, interaction up to medium, and roaming to medium, and that still bumped it up to ~x4.75 or so.
Tried all the small maps, and found the only ones that were kind of hard were Bleasdale (3 floors sucks), and camp woodwind when it's an early and fast hunter. Thaye and Revenant were killers in that camp.
Otherwise, it was pretty solid.
Getting between 1400-1900 depending on objectives completed. Better if I could get a perfect bonus.
And since the ghost never changed roo.s, it was easy to pin down the 3 evidence fairly quickly.
Find the room with temps going down with the T1 Thermo, set up the evidence stuff. Snap photos of all the interactions, etc. Try and complete some objectives.
Look for a hiding spot while finding the bone, as they were good for finishing things like hunt-based objectives or hiding until 25% sanity, etc.
A good 3 times the reward from my usual Professional runs I was doing with my wife and friends. And it is still fun to play, not a grind.
Per usual, sat down for lunch with a bowl of noodles, soda, and turned this on. Love making this a daily routine.
Insym : Even for a professional sometimes its hard to find the ghost.

Regarding the photos, it would be really nice if we could at least delete ONE photo from the book. That would prevent cheesing but would allow for one mistake.
Glad you showed how to do this effectively. I want to keep my game as organic as possible. Just cant do the cheesy camp woodwind grinding. It defeats the purpose of the game. I just couldnt be proud of my achievements knowing i exploited the game
Nightmare is the Best for me. Most of the time when you have your 2 evidenves you know anyway if you are experienced which ghost you have and if not it's easy to find out fast

The thing about the camp woodwind strat, I'm using it to help me determine ghost hunting patterns and to get used to hunting cause I SUCK.
I am highly impressed with a certain part of your stats, you have somehow managed to lose 20% more items when you have bought 😂 love the vids though man 😁
The stats got introduced when I already had thousands of dollars in items. Which I then proceeded to lose lol. Also there was a bug for a week where every time you played a game it would add 2000$ to your money spent stat. So that stat is completely busted lol
I like how there's people in chat who say "Mimic" in every single investigation you do, and when it eventually is a Mimic they type "I CALLED IT" as if they did anything to determine the ghost other than saying Mimic every time until they were right.

It would be fun having a challenge where you start knowing what the ghost is but your objective is to get a perfect game, so finding all 3 evidence, bone, cursed possession and 10 3-star photos
And you can add a bit of extra difficulty, i.e.
125% ghost speed, high roaming, high room change, low interaction, low events, 0 sanity and no sanity meds

I got phasmophobia yesterday and I love it. I sadly have no space for it so I have to use GeForce now and wait years to play one hour but it's still really fun.

I found professional as a template for custom difficulty with tweaks to open all doors, hide breaker on map, Sanity Pills restore 25, 60 sec UV, Ghost change fav room never, (even shortened the hunt to medium) buffed the rewards up to like 3.6 (3.9 when I turn off cursed items) so I purely play that way, fill the book with disturbed salt photos basically
Thanks for this video, I really don't like the custom difficulty methods of leveling up because to me it feels cheap and not as fun as just playing the game normally.
For freezing, the patch notes for Ascension say that freezing counts as anything below 1c.
The weakness of the T1 thermo is that you have to wait for it to properly go below 0 because it is so hard to see between 0 and 1.
The T2/3 thermometers as soon as you see 0.9 or below flash on screen it counts for freezing.
The T2 and T3 thermometers do not provide a perfect temperature though. They can be up to 1 degree more or less. You must see a - sign to confirm freezing, as even seeing 0.0 doesn't mean freezing. The T1 thermometer will give an exact temperature and it is easy to tell if it is a freezing ghost. If you are in the ghost room and the ghost is in there as well, the temperature will go down to 1C and stop if it is not a freezing ghost.
@WulfricPendragon not exactly. The t2 and t3 thermo can only give you a higher temp i think the range is 2 or 1 respectively. So if you see 0.9C or lower it is freezing.
One thing I wanted to ask, what about modified Professional and Nightmare modes. One run I played with was a 4x Professional (4x is the max full beneift for 3 evi's runs) so you get nightmare level rewards but still have teh 3 evidence. THen of course custom nightmare levels where you make some changes to increase teh multiplier up from 4x and still maintain 2 evidence.

I hate the Woodwind 12.97 cheese strat, but one thing it created for me that I love is a hunt training mode. Tweak the custom settings for zero sanity and fog weather, also kill rewards but retain the danger you'd face in a normal match, and use it to train yourself on hunt behaviors and speeds. I've learned so much more that I wasn't really learning in standard play.
I despise it as well but it feels almost necessary to level up in a timely manner if you don't have hours a day to play. I honestly feel the progression system in this update could use a tweak, especially for newer players. I've played for years but still find it annoying/taxing the amount of grind you need to get most of the T2 items unlocked. Phasmo is effectively a "spooky party game" and most people who play aren't going to grind it that hard. Streamers, like Insym, can do it as their job and some people have it as their main game. Most other people aren't that lucky or that enthralled with phasmo but still enjoy it and they may never hit the levels required to unlock some of the cooler gear.
While I don't think it's necessarily a "normal" way to play, the 13x "guess using hunt mechanics" is great to train yourself on the different ghosts' hunting behaviors, and non-evidence behaviors.
I've played this game a lot, and can handle hunts pretty well, but didn't delve into the "face down the ghost and loop them" stuff, so I'm still green on that stuff.
Going in with just some matches and a couple smudges is CHEAP, and getting the feeling of the ghosts' speeds, visual flashing, unique traits, etc, that all occur during hunts is invaluable.
And until they design some other means of difficulty that doesn't just remove evidence, it's basically how the Devs have pushed us to play the hardest difficulties. This is their current incarnation of "hardest setting". Not exactly an exploit if it's what they've designed it to be.
I've posted on their forums, but I can't say this enough: we need other difficulty options that gatekeep the higher rewards, other than 0 evidence. Like, maybe even just "lowers evidence equipment interaction" to the point that it's so low that you NEED tier 3 equipment to react to it properly, otherwise it will be essentially a 0 evidence run. If you can get near highest difficulty bonus (or at least not locked at x5 or whatever) but still keep the 3 evidences, then your massive addition to the game, a whole aspect of the entire game (60 tools) won't be tossed out the window when you get the highest difficulties.

Also something they could do is tat everytime you prestige, you can permanently unlock 1 item of your choice.
Then I couldn't do true reset anymore.
You should do a challenge where you have no game sound, but another person in the truck can use the sound from the sound sensors.

i just did an overkill challenge the other day, i had to guess 3 bleasdale ghosts for $5000! i did it i got a lot of exp leveled up at least 6 times unlocked a few items, when choosing difficulty look for challenge mode its probably a new challenge now it resets regularly.
If you fiddle with the custom settings, you can play a Professional game (3 evidence) at x4.00 diff (nightmare level multiplier)
Also, maybe you can record your chill time, off-stream phasmo sessions and upload to YT?

If you want a perfect game just take pictures of disturbed salt, unless its a wraith. But it helps a lot because of all the bugged photos.

Game 1 of the new update for me. Tangle Wood; Tarot Cards > High Priestess followed by 3 back-to-back Death cards. Kept messing with my hiding spot doors and got me on the 3rd hunt.
In the end, got bamboozled by a Shade of all things -.-
I just hate how grindy the game feels if you don't use one of those custom difficulties. One perfect nightmare game with full photos on Tanglewood gets you less than half the XP of a single woodwind guess on 13x. It's going to take AGES to level up and get better equipment if you don't grind.
You don't really need to get prestige you can just stay at prestige 1
@@howlyy_y Given we all got set to prestige 1 it makes no difference if you intend to prestige later its still a terrible grind the first time through for Eveyrone.

100% agree! i try the woodwind strat... got 3 right, died 6 times, guess wrong 10 times.. wasnt worth it for a causal. my custom 5.87 give me more while be 95% safe(demons ruin this)
The woodwind strat requires a little bit of rng. If the ghost is a Banshee, Jinn, Mare Shade, Yurei (you can be lucky and see the ghost using its ability, but it's definitely not common), Goryo or Onryo (same thing as Yurei). So usually, 1/3 of the ghosts are impossible to guess right, so you need to pick one randomly. Sometimes it's hard to know if it's a Myling if the ghost room is near of where you're hiding, since the map is so small. On the good side, you can actually identify 2/3 ghosts in 1-2 hunts. Anyways, my tip is to keep trying. It's a great way to learn the game mechanics.

Exploit? I wouldn’t say so. Cheesy? Most definitely. Much less cheesy than some of the shenanigans that old customs could do. I run a 13.5x multiplier, and even that took me like 6-8 hours or so to prestige once. I can only imagine how long it would take me to prestige using a default difficulty.
Maybe if you speedrun perfect games with friends it wouldnt be as bad? These kinds of 0 sanity 0 evidence speedruns have been in the game for a while, if the devs didn’t like it they would have obviously changed it. They changed the exp gains from bigger maps, I used to do a 10x on sunny meadows for levels.
Personally I think 0 evidence is the most fun way to play Phas, but I agree the woodwind thing is cheesy, boring, and kind of up to rng. But it’s currently the best way to level, people should lay off people who want to be optimal. It’s not an exploit, it doesn’t harm you, and everyone can do it (with a bit of know how).
An exploit is literally the use of an element ,the creators of the game didnt intend you to use (the way it is used now.). From previous tries from the devs to nerf custom game rewards I think it can be said that, the devs didnt intend for people to get prestige 20 in a mather of a week.
Sadly this also means that being high prestige, doesnt has the value, i think the devs wanted it to have.
Do by no means misunderstand me though, i still believe that people should play the way they enjoy it the most. If people have fun by grinding XP, thats totally cool. I also think it is quite fun guessing the ghost by hunts alone.
I hope I could express my self a little, and am sorry for my english, if some sentences dont make sense🙂.

@@AmorusPleeksty2000 Going by that definition so many things can be considered exploits, hell INSYM would be a huge exploiter too. Id say using known bugged hiding spots is more of an exploit than using a system that they made the most optimal way you can. Yes they have nerfed customs before, and if they had an issue with it they would have done it again when the huge patch came out. You cannot sit here and tell me the devs are so unaware about the game state that they didn't expect people to use customs as a means to level the most efficient way possible. Honestly it sounds like you think they are incompetent. Changing a few multipliers isn't that difficult, people have been using strats like the WW farm for a long while, if they truly didn't intend for people to use it that way it would have been patched out when the update came out at the least. If you can show me where they said they didn't expect people to do this or something similar be my guest, but I like to believe the devs are a bit smarter than that.
Even for people using the WW strat, its gonna take a lot longer than it took the speedrunners because people are nowhere near how efficient they are and aren't playing 24/7 for 4 days. And lets be a bit realistic, the "value" you are speaking of, I would agree if it made it less difficult. But in all honesty getting to p20 isn't hard, it just takes a lot of time. Coming from WoW and OSRS, mindnumbing grinding doesn't equal difficulty. Now id be more worried about people using bugged 15x lobbies with Amateur settings, that is 100% an exploit.

Before I watch. Just play with others who have everything unlocked.
Also how I leveled up was play on a custom difficulty with 3 evidence and make ghost really fast and me have no sprint. No hiding places, no cooldown during a hunt. Essentially I get in there and get the light on really fast. Find room with thermometer and setup everything in there. I make sure lights are always on unless I do spirit box. I get like 5.63x multiplier so I normally get like $1300 to $1800 or so depending on bonus objectives and photos. NEVER allow the ghost to hunt. I keep my sanity above 60% normally unless I am narrowing it down further. Takes about 5 minutes or so. No sprinting is what sucks the most.
Also my method is for those who aren't insanely good at figuring out the ghost without evidence.
I was using the camp woodwind cheese for a while, but then I got three banshees in a row that roamed to me and insta killed me, and then a moroi that also insta killed me. So now I don't want to do that anymore lol
I wish we had a video better explaining how to determine what ghost it is. Understand he's logged a ton of hours into the game but I just wish there was some type of way to explain how you almost always know what it is early on for us beginners/intermediate players!
The phasmo wiki has all the ghost special abilities and hunt thresholds. Very helpful. Then it just takes remembering the info and experiencing it in game enough to cement it to memory.
He's done videos in the past explaining each ghost ability, hidden abilities ect. there is also youtube shorts explaining them I believe as well. Plus he generally explains while he's playing normally as well. Insym is a god at his craft tbh. But in my opinion, the most fun way to figure things out is to go in blind and test and play.
He recently (well not recently it was 5 months ago) did a video explaining all the ghosts and their abilities, etc. You can check it out

Dude i just witnesst the weirdest shit on Edgefield Road... The crucifix went of while still hanging in the truck becouse the ghost was a demon and was in the masterbedroom and couse of the 50% increased range it went of in the truck xddddd, pls tell me im not the only one haha
And I don't know if it was fixed but for writing book first photo has been writing for me even when I catch it mid write. Have to pick it up and drop it for interaction photo. Doesn't work for multiple interaction photos either

I tried that custom you did on camp woodwind and it's hard at first. They were just all Jinns, Hantu's, Revs and Obake's
Huh but you can recognise all of those in a hunt (maybe not jinn always but still)
So you got super lucky, besides the jinn the rest were easy money.
So, you are now P2.
Also I got here before 600 likes, lettuce go!
And, I feel like having a(n) actual farm for a map would be neat, or just a funny Easter egg for Insym, like a small chance for The Hanged Man to have Insym on it, or when you complete a mission in under 5 minutes, you'll get a little note thats difficult to see that says, "Oh, so you like speedrunning?"
Again, I'm not looking for likes, comments, or attention, as these are just my opinions, not recommendations.

Still the biggest flaw with the gameplay itself. Why can't I have a box or a bag of some sort to carry items? The devs could make it so you can still only carry 3 items at a time, and you have to drop the box/bag to add or retrieve items so you can't cart the whole truck as if it were inventory. But having to run out to the truck 4 times still sucks.
What if the normal difficulties have an EXP multiplier that increases as you complete successful runs?

if you know the ghosts well, then insanity, if you aint as good then just play pro :) you will level up at your own pace and have fun along the way
I played a game last night where the ghost model was completely different during separate hunts. I know the Obake's ability is shapeshifting when it blinks, but I was surprised the ghost wasn't an Obake, I think it ended up being a Mare or something. Are other ghosts capable of changing their model or was this a bug?
Yeah they can change models in different hunts, the obake changes it during the hunt

The obake also skips footsteps during hunts which is a bug I believe but you can use it for now
personnaly i play nightmare solo and intermediate with my friends (they are beginners) I dont care how fast it goes, i just play to enjoy ;) I feel grinding the custom difficulty is efficient yea, but efficiency is not the point for me in this game.
Insym don't take this the wrong way but you don't stop talking about the game in every video no matter how long you just don't stop to play the game so I use you to fall asleep very often until today where I woke up to this sound 1:50:44

Edit: A perfect game on Professional nets you around 1325$-1375$ with normal photos. It might go up to 1400$ if you get lucky with dirty water photos mayhaps.
Thats not an exploit cuz u can stay a lil more and test for wraith test for spirit eith the smudge test for goryo to see if it comes from the same room etc
I feel like Professional is the easier difficulty, but Nightmare is overall faster despite its shortcomings.

cant believe phasmo community doesnt really get angry much about the super buggy updates. the update made the game crash and sometimes my pc almost everytime i start a round, and its the case for many players.
and insym keeps mentioning the game is littered with bugs, he sounds pretty pissed when mentioning the bugs too.
