Thank you for following. :)
If you're happy with your work ,who cares about everyone else, because it's not there Truck.
For those of us who can't be there..... Thanks Mike for taking us along 👍
Yeah bolts and put metal chrome covers over bolts
Fill holez with welding
Hey Mike team s.t.e.a.m on RUclips shows a lot of bodywork on semi. He uses fiberglass on holes
Like the idea of the cab extenders and the grab handles, you could be the person looking to grab hold of one. Starting to look good.
A Smokey mural on the rear of the cab would be cool!!
So glad you are putting the grab handles and the cab extenders back on
Cool truck
19:17 I would suggest strip smokey and get the pros in a spray booth to do the paint job you may regret trying yourself
Yeah, that's where I was thinking of priming it put the windows in,put the interior in and then get it driving before paint.
One does not have to be a mechanic, or an expert at body work to bring an old Kenworth back to life, and on the road. Do your best, and it will come out ok.
Loving these video's Mike, as a kid the BJ and the Bear KW was my dream vehicle, as an elderly adult it still is! Keep up the excellent work!
So much yes to the cab extenders 👍
Get some button head Allen bolts to plug those holes paint over them you'll barely notice them..
It cost me $45 U.S. to send a motorcycle kickstart lever to Australia, those doors would be outrageous to ship.
The current amount of red striping on the front of the cab is eye-catching and simple. Why make more work to over-complicate things?
aww your good mike I would take the ant off the back of the cab leave the mount and install a backup camra
Two things with paint stripper.....#1 - always put some disposable plastic or paper under your parts that your doing as it makes a big mess... #2 - put plastic over the part once you put the stripper on, if possible, that way it evaporates slower and bites into the paint better which saves you work and product re-applications.
It’s coming along Mike. Steady wins the race.
Mike just put the bolts back in the holes and paint the bolts. Don’t fill it with kitty hair or Bondo. I’m Autobody guy of 30 years. Just put the bolts back in the holes and paint it it.
Thank you for the advice 🙏
I don't see any way that a DIY paint job could be any worse than what's on Smokey right now, so go for it!
Yeah... I'd keep that "no riders" decal a secret, unless you also plan on sleeping in Smokey... by yourself... for days... maybe weeks.
You have talked about a BJ and the Bear tribute truck, maybe even using Smokey for that. Have you thought about a reversed color scheme? White where the red would be and red where the white would be.
"No" on the daylight doors.
Yes, you are winning this race, so keep up the steady pace.
Mike were you take the rivets out grind the hole tap in with ball peen Hamer fill with kitty hair then holes will be in far enough
Mike throw that auxiliary heater and get a proper night heater job done and keep you warm
Would get that gearbox in that peterbuilt and remove it out then make some room up that side of the shed and push k2 in there then put the pete in front again keep k2 out of the weather .
Mike take 80 grit sandpaper and sand all around where you’re spot that you’re repairing really good then take your Bondo or your kitty hair and spread it. Let it dry and then hand sand it with 80. It’ll come out beautiful in the ass lotta work but hard block and sound it with 80 it’ll come out nice.
Try putting plastic over your striped paint to keep all the fumes in and it makes it work a lot better dose not dry out
Great video Mike glad to see you're getting closer to sealing up the holes your not going to use. Smokey is coming along nicely stay safe Mike.
Ya done good bud I can’t wait till paint time. She is going to be great
I think the antennas look cool on the mirror arms, as long as they are perfectly vertical and not angled forward.
Agreed 👍
💯
If you white go with gm code 12 it's the bright white gm 78 code 12
What about some sort of rubber grommet glued into the holes.
Hi Mike, love your channel! Just finished watching Vice Grips video on the F100 paint job. Guy that painted the truck for Derick was both entertaining and super knowledgeable. You should take his course on line.
I'll have to check that out. I love vice grip garage but usually fall asleep in my chair on Friday nights.
I wouldn't stress about the roof to much as long as it's strong and waterproof
I think the doors would look great ... would add a lot of Pop to the smaller cab
you have 3 other cabbies with stock doors
I'll tell you this mike.......the right way to do it is your way.😀🤠 That's the way I see it.😎
idea for ya, that back cab antenna mount...you could keep it and mount you a back up camera there and already have the access hole thru the cab and a mount for it...just a thought watching you...have a great day.
Cool idea
Mike you’re doing a hell of a job. A lot better than I could do. Say hi to dad.
Looks good to me I think you are doing a great job with smokie
I think you should put the air horn back on as well.
You could use stainless button head Allen bolts in them.
Way I see things the more perfect you try to make something it's not going to look as good with something with flaws cause they give it character and unique, your doing good Mike
How is your dad Mike how are you doing mike and your brother doing and family
Keep the doors. Use the money for something useful....like chrome!!!! lol
If you did do the daylight doors I do the W 900 L or W 900 B model style daylight doors, not the older style. The newer style w nine hundred e model
Making a mess means you're making progress Mike. Well thats what i try and tell myself😉
I wonder what Andrea will think about that sticker .. lol😂!!
I really like the direction you are going great job as usual Mike👍👍
Thanks 👍
Moving along nicely Mike
You don't have to make the roof pristine unless of course you tilt the cab forward to show off the pretty engine you're going to install in this project then everybody will see it. Long process body work is and you have more patience than me but it's got to be done I suppose. I'd rather be putting the transmission in Stubby.
Looks good!!
I like your plan Mike👍
Mike I must say I love the words you are making up lol😂!!
You mentioned the guy that paints trucks and doesn't remove the glass, or door handles. I think I know which channel you
are talking about. He also doesn't take off any of the lights, or mirrors. The first time I watched him do a truck, I couldn't
believe that he left all of those things on, and I thought to myself, I hope he prices the work accordingly.
He said one time that he leaves those things on because the fasteners are probably rusty and will break.
With that way of thinking, what would he do if he was restoring an old car that had rusty fasteners ? Just paint over them ?
I've done a lot of painting. Show cars, race cars and multi-million dollar motor homes. I could never leave things on a rig
and just mask them off, instead of removing them, but unfortunately I'm a perfectionist and we all have different ways
of doing things...
Before you commit to the strips, find an artist to do a rendering to make sure you like it.
love smoky he,s gonna be awesome again
Hey Mike, found your channel a few weeks ago and really enjoy your content. Been trying to figure out who you remind me of sometimes. Finally figure it out. I suspect your 80s AI doppelganger is Max Headroom :)
Haha awesome 👌
Well since you are working on Smokey it might inspire your Dad to work on the Pete formerly known as Stubby...
Thanks Mike. Smokey is definitely going in the right direction. Love what you've doing. You'll only learn by trying, so give the painting a go. Twinsticks hadn't done it before and he did a great job. I don't mind you chatting away to us, it gives us all some idea of what you would like to achieve. Mike from Lancashire 🇬🇧
Thanks Mike, I guess that's why I'm a salesman good at talking lol 😆
😎👍
Slow but steady progress....
Hey Mike, you may not be a perfect body man, but you're doing your best, it's proving to be perfectly good enough and above all,
You're our guy and we're all right behind you. 👍
God bless you and yours, god bless the rest of the viewers and best wishes from Manchester England.
Jay
🙏🏴❤🇨🇦
Thank you for the support it means alot 🙏
@@mikethetrucknut hang in there mate 👍
Just like my model builds I try my best to hide the flaws lol😂!!
Your making excellent progress Mike. Your dedication is inspiring. How is dad's progress on Stubby? Have u found a transmission for Stubb .there is numerous Allison 2000 transmission in the $500 vacinity nearby my area ..... midwestern usa . An automatic transmission might be very nice for your father's truck
Dad hasn't been feeling it with the trucks after mom's passing.
I mite as well throw my 2 cents in if that was my truck which I had new back in the day I never ordered it with cab extenders to me on a cab over they look alot better without them up to you its your truck just saying I wouldn't put them back on !!
What colors will you choose for Smoky.?
Red and white
Here’s a pro tip for you Mike. Considering skill level as a spray painter, don’t try and do multi colour paint jobs. It will look crap. Stick with one colour. Fibreglass to fill those front holes will be fine. If only you can direct your ADHD, and halve the amount of talking you do you will get a lot of work done
Soak your seatbelts in dish soap
Good idea
Why not put a lower sight glass in the driver's door like in the passenger side?
Your channel is starting to get really boring You're not recording things you talk Way too much it would be nice to see you working on vehicles but you're not so I'm just going to unsubscribe
That's a bit harsh, not sure why you feel the need to tell me but thanks for the constructive criticism.
I agree that is harsh. Mike doesn't have to do this. I for one appreciate the time he takes to continue with his channel. I didn't much care for North American trucks, being from the UK, but there's 7 trucks of Mike's that I've invested my time in, and I'm really interested in following Mike's journey with them, however he's wishes. Communication is key to any channel and for me, Mike is talking directly to me.
