    Coming back to this several months later, deciding which to buy. IMO, now that I've heard a bunch of different tones from both I say STL Will Putney wins. Yes the Nameless has more cab flexibility as far as moving mics around etc, but STL just sounds a bit more mix ready / natural at the same time. Theres something about the Nameless that is like grinding my teeth. This sorta mid jangling and stringy top end that turns me off. It works for lotsa things but it's just not my style. STL has warmth and life by comparison. Still think they both sound beast but I'm putting my cash on STL.
    Peace.

This whole past year i had been using the plini Archetype and thought it was the best thing i had ever heard...minus the gate lol...but then just the other day i saw a review on the STL and tried it out and it changed my life. You can hear those fuckin amps breath. Still use the Plini for all of my clean stuff though.

    My opinion is with the majority of digital amplification I.E. these two or axe Fx/ kemper/ helix the difference in tones are mainly your ear and getting a tone your happy with. I'm about 95% sure with enough time and knowledge of what you are using you can get almost the same tone out of any of the digital amps with exception to effects, reverb and delays modulation and so on. The main difference between all of them in my opinion is out of the box what is easier to get a acceptable tone with minimal time tweaking.

    Never clicked on a video so fast.
    Not a bad tone on any of these, was kinda surprised at how the Mesa triple crown had less low end. Still, no less useable that mid focus is awesome for pick attack.
    Given you can blend amps in the STL, pairing it with the low end of the 5150 amp would be awesome. The Fortin was stellar as always, a tad more gritty and less defined but still beastly.
    Damn, I was so convinced I needed the neural stuff, but now I’m leaning more toward the STL stuff. Either way you can’t go wrong.
    Oh, and by that cheeky little pun, did you use Bias for the lead? 🤔😄

    Nts is based on my favorite amp of all time.....but so far it hasn’t seemed much better than the audio assault hellbeast which substantially costs less.....but the stl sounded better on rhythm, wasn’t too crazy about solo tone...the neural wins for me, despite liking the rhythm tones more from the stl....but vai wannabe shredding is my thing, but I m sure I could dial a pleasing tone on both.....great comparison kudos on a job and service well done :)

    I grabbed the STL Tonality last night so I was able to compare it firsthand to the Nameless Suite. They're pretty damn close but the Nameless Suite still wins for an all-around rhythm tone in my opinion. Of course, different sounds for different scenarios. It never hurts to have multiple great sounds at your disposal. In this video, I prefer the sound of the STL Tonality in the mix, but in the context of my own playing/music, I know that the Nameless edges it out a bit. You really can't go wrong with either one, but I will say that Nameless still has the most brutal tone of any amp sim I've used. It's like a wrecking ball covered in spikes that can growl at you. It's just so mean-sounding. Great comparison vid, I enjoyed the track a lot.

    Really hard to compare them if there is any reason to compare anything. STL tones are made with the help of producers and Neural DSP's stuff is made with the help of players and amp creators. So far anything I've tested from STL tones just sits in the mix in a snap. Nothing to scoop, not many weird frequencies to dump or boost. Neural's stuff sounds more organic and will still need a bit of processing to sit in the mix and this just makes it great for people that have to deal with different types of drumkits other than vsts. To my ears, comparing these two just doesn't make sence. Hope I didn't trigger anyone, I'm just saying that both serve a different purpose and comparing them serves none. Would love to hear the end result when Neural's tones are processed to sit in the mix and compared to how STL Tonality sounds. Liked the video anyway and wouldn't have commented on it if I didn't as there was work put into it.

      John Memos thanks for pointing this out! I’m looking into getting a new amp sim and since I’m a producer myself, I don’t necessarily need it to be “mix-ready” since I can mix it myself. I’m more interested in the tones each amp sims produce. However, it’s hard for me to not like the STL immediately since it sounds so good in these mixes. I guess I will just have to play them each myself.

    I keep going back and forth between Fortin nameless and nts, stl putney and bias fx2.
    I know you use bias fx2 for leads a lot. I feel a lot of people in the metal world look down on bias fx2 but i still find it the easiest to get as good tone. Fortin definitely is amazing but a lot of times when I’m looking for a go to tone is the switchblade or Hargen.

  • @shaynestilllife
    @shaynestilllife 5 лет назад +1

    STL definitely the realest sound, however I will say Fortin seems fine to track with because the response is a quick attack.

    • @xanderraymondcharles

    • @shaynestilllife
      @shaynestilllife 5 лет назад +1

      @@xanderraymondcharles what's weird is you see a of people talking trash on bias but I invested in that and bias amp 2 before Fortin and STL Putney came out. I still use it a my primary tone because it's a very clear signal. However I'm using my own IRs.
      I'm convinced you can make any of these amp sims sound how you want with the right IRs.
      Plus just got bias fx2 and it's really good. Have it sounding a lot better then Ola or Spectre sound reviews.

  • @Rushtallica
    @Rushtallica 4 года назад

    Don't get me wrong; I do like a lot of what Neural DSP has put out. But the Nameless reminds me of a good amp that's had half its frequencies cut out. To me, it's definitely heavy-sounding but lacks body and doesn't sound right in a mix IMO. Maybe where it would shine is with lower tunings, doing Meshuggah style music or when mixed with other amps when using less downtuned guitars.
