“The Avatar must walk alone” doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense imo because past Avatars had families. Roku had a wife and children and I think Kyoshi had a girlfriend and adopted daughter.
I feel like that was more as a from their own personal experiences like how each of them had different advice on how to fight like Kyoshi was more brutal and Kuruk didn't fight at all. They just were sharing their own beliefs.
Maybe after the fact they realized that having family or friends felt like a burden or how much they put them in danger.
All the avatars realized that their loved ones will die or meet a horrid end. Kyoshi is able to protect a whole island because she was ruthless. Roku saved an entire island of people at his temple. It makes sense that it is better to have no one around you so you can be saved from remorse.
@@BeeKee404 Kuruk was in the spirit realm saving the physical realm because the spirits were threatening to attack the physical realm. Some spiritual creatures didn't like that he was stopping them since the benders were essentially harming them and they can't fight back against them without the Avatar stepping in.
shhh stop it you're making sense. We don't do this around here.
My heart STOPPED when Momo was hit. Like, I was ready to fight someone. Also, I feel so bad for Kuruk. The dude went through so much, and canonically died at 33. His good deeds were secret from the world, and was known as the lazy Avatar because of it. He deserves better.
Fact
Same. Although I knew they weren't going to kill him off unless for some reason, they figured fans wouldn't care which I hope that's not the case cause Momo's awesome even though he tends to be overshadowed by Appa who is also awesome. I love them both equally.
"Imagine seeing the moon disappear."
Well Sophia, it's 3 in the afternoon where I am, and we're currently experiencing a solar eclipse, so 🤷😂
Same lol
It's the day of black sun 🗣️🔥🚫
@@kylahicks7054 Yeap. Unlike them, where I live, the sun wasn’t completely covered to see. Still, it’s a hell of a experience to witness such this since natural events like this one don’t occur very often.
"Damn, you were betrothed and you like her, and then she was the one who broke it off? That sucks dude?
I think you meant:
"That's rough buddy."
I am so glad you also liked the emphasis on avatars other than just Roku. I saw that element as a huge plus, especially since the avatars are quite different from one another in terms of their greatest strength. Kyoshi was the most powerful warrior, Kuruk was the most in touch with the Spiritual realm, and Aang ends up being the most relational (which becomes a huge strength, we can already predict)
I still want to see how they depict Roku, I'm curious what will be his greatest unique strength
the quote that "you don't have to be a warrior to be a hero" is cool when you realize it's applicable to avatar kuruk as well
I’m still baffled by the decision not to have aang and Katara both learn water bending together as the season went on. It was a really important part of the story
I've noticed that a lot of movies and shows for the past 6 years or so have had really bad wigs. Starting with Nicole Kidman's wig in Aquaman.
I think Roku being the main avatar to help Aang in the cartoon makes more sense because he was literally the last avatar before Aang and as we learn later in the show was best friends with Sozin who started the 100 year war. Also, loving the look. The hair with the jean jacket...very 90s Mariah.
Thank you for another fun video! Also I believe Roku was the one to educate Aang in the animated version since he was the most recent avatar prior to Aang.
In the live action they didnt do justice to Roku in my opinion. Roku was not only important for Aangs development as a character, he was also important for Zuko. Roku always said that Aang was there to redeem his past mistakes, so it is more important that Roku guides Aang and not necessary the other Avatars.
Katara became a master from reading a single scroll her grandma gave her? I mean, she’s a master of what’s written in the scroll I guess, but a master of waterbending in general is a stretch.
Yeah they did her so dirty in the live action. Glad they are getting new directors for the last 2 seasons. They saw the success but know they can do better
@@littlesparrow303 Directors? Netflix needs to hire a new writing staff.
I agree she’s not a master-level waterbender, but I get that she’s fully self taught, having never met another waterbender in her life, so it’s pretty impressive and she’s her own TEACHER, but not a master
Given how she definitely stood her ground against one of the best waterbending masters in the world, it truly demonstrates her full potential waiting to be unlocked that I’m certain we will see that later on. Remember, it was one of the boys who, sadly perished, that called her “Master” because how advanced she is compared to them. So much so that the ice disks was developed by watching some Earthbenders and took that as an inspiration for their style in combat since they’re all about redirecting and given them the same treatment. Honestly, if anyone called you a master, you couldn’t help yourself but be flattered and eventually, embrace it. A testament of Katara’s skill growth. 🌊
Having the title “master” when she didn’t take a single lesson in fighting technique from anyone else is SO freakin funny. Like, anyone who has done a high-level sport/martial art/performance art will know how absolutely insane that sounds. Hahaha Imagine being a gymnastics instructor who never took a class themselves or a football coach who only read a book on the game. Or a Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner who got a black belt after watching RUclips videos. Never would happen in a million years, because that’s not how physical training or expertise works. It makes bending seem pathetic and easy, instead of grounded and badass like the original show.
Btw, the actress who was teaching Katara is the voice actress for Pocahontas, Irene Bedard.
OMG NO WAY, I love that actually
The show should have had 2 more episodes. Each having 3 segments (segments from the og show, that were not included in the live action) that interwoven into one another that develops the Gaang's relationships. Could even include a segment of the swamp episode where Aang sees Toph.
Yeah the 8 episode formula does not work with such a packed plot, it felt rushed for sure
@@SophiaPhannn fr, the show didn't allow the characters to breathe and bond
to be fair you have to be emotionally sound of mind to redirect lighting. Azula never redirects, she only bends and attacks, even in the animated series. Because she is nuts, she can't redirect it
It was confirmed that only fire benders can redirected lightning. If anyone else tries it not only will it hot work but they will also probably die
"if Aang had hair head go bald" got me 😂😂
Posting an Avatar video on the day of a Solar Eclipse. It makes to much sense. Was it intentional?
🤭 maybe
I'm so happy you warmed up to Dallas' portrayal of Zuko cause I feel like it's a pretty popular opinion that Zuko and Iroh were the major highlights of the adaption which I can agree with. I personally enjoyed the adaption overall despite the flaws but Iroh and Zuko were definitely my favorite parts. Also I do agree that Yue's wig looked a little fake but it wasn't a huge bother to me. I liked it more than the 🍆 shaped hair in the movie 😂. Although I will say the hair in the movie did look more natural but at the same time, it didn't look all that good.
They could have easily hired martial artists for this show...
Sophia is officially my favorite orange haired reactor😁
I feel like they had a parallel story arc for Katara and Azula where season one is where they become the fierce warriors we know them as. And hopefully will be more like their animated counterparts in season two and three
am i the only one who HATED princess yui's wig. Like idk why ALL white or grey hair was FROSTY. So stiff like you know it was sprayed on white. Also overtime, I like how evil Zhou was.
also the shade of KURUK, FREE MAH BOY KURUK. He saved everyone's souls.
The wig was horrible the only thing that was good about the movie was yue how was the movie wig better than this 😀
@@Royally_Wonderful The movie actor for yue was good too. But I 100% agree, the movie wig was better...
Filming for s2 will start in July-Sep, they will film s3 back to back.
Im excited to see the disappointment on your face for this video 💀
It makes no sense that ozai would want his kids to push back though, he didnt even like zuko speaking out of turn. He wants them skilled but mentally malleable
I feel like he keeps his kids guessing on what he wants, which would keep them on edge all the time 😩
aside from Katara’s completely self-taught master status and the weird kuruk-knife exposition additions (we needed more exposition like a hole in the head) ….and Katara suddenly having a familial bond with Aang …and Yue’s romance plot being somehow more instalove than the carton … the part that really makes me laugh is Yue’s dad taking so much dialogue to make Sokka feel better after his ACTUAL CHILD just died. Damn, who wrote that shit. Like, read the room.
Nothing felt earned in this series :/ so rushed
Yeah hopefully the pacing gets better now that they have two more seasons to plan out
Luckily they are getting new directors for the 2 seasons. In this series they did ruin Katara & her/Aang not having romance either. Not even hints like in S1
I wonder if for the live action they're going to draw out the time scale to sort of compensate for the actors aging, since the cartoon was what, over the span of a year or something? Three seasons of a live action with living child actors will definitely not be filmed within a year! I don't think in that final teaser scene for the next season they mentioned when Sozin's Comet was coming, so they gave themselves room. If they did I don't remember
I feel like they should tbh! It just makes more sense with these child actors, and I’m down for anything to avoid bad de-aging cgi 💀
5:12 That little girl is so cute!
The Face-Stealer reminds me of the horrifying faceless aunts in "Kubo and the Two Strings."
8:50 I mean, his indecisiveness led to the extinction of the Air Nomads, his failures led to the 100 year war, he had the biggest stake in this moment in time in Aang's life and also the world.
Slight spoiler for LOK :
Not only that, since he was the last Avatar before Aang, his connection to Aang is strongest, just as Aang will be for Korra.
Sophia, you are already becoming an Avatar with your incredible videobending :)
My guess is that they'll do a time jump for season 2. Hopefully it's done tastefully. Like have Katara and Aang training in waterbending when they are younger, and then do a blend cut to them doing the same training, but they are faster and stronger, more precise, and of course older.
If they do a lazy time jump, and just say without showing, "Wow, that past year of waterbending was super tough, but I'm glad we're both masters at it now. And we saved so many Earth Kingdom villages along the way. I feel so much closer to you after all of our amazing adventures."
I really REALLY hope they don't do that latter lol.
Honestly been waiting to comment until you finished the series lol
I think nearly every opinion you’ve stated throughout the series I agree with. I’m the only one of my close friends who has Netflix so I had to type a massive document in my notes app to tell them all my thoughts 😅
I think my favorite thing is Zuko and Iroh’s character and relationship portrayals. I loved how much dire the situations felt in this live action. Actually seeing people dying in the live-action puts so much weight to everyone’s actions. Also, I just really liked the connection with Zuko and the 41st division 🥹
My biggest grievance is the way they wrote Katara’s character. No true rage until like, episode 7?! And while I liked that they included the other avatars more, I hated the fact that they all emphasized to Aang that he has to be the avatar “alone” 🤨 I also agree that I’m not a fan of Azula’s insecurities. I think most of us don’t want Azula and Ozai to be humanized, we just want cruel and sadistic villains 😆
Yeah like I’m glad we got to see Katara’s attitude in the last two episodes, but couldn’t we have seen it throughout the whole show?? 😩 hopefully the characterizations will improve with the future seasons
Season 2 wants:
- Amazing Toph moments
- Appa's Lost Days
- Haru and the Earthbender prison
- The pirartes (yes, I want them too somehow)
I think that if they can blend things from future seasons, I don't see why they can't throw in a few things from the first season in the next two as well.
Something I don't understand is how come when Azula refuses to fight and spares Ozai it's a good thing but when Zuko does it it's a bad thing? I mean they essentially did the same thing.
I think the difference is Azula wasn’t directly fighting against Ozai like Zuko was during the Agni Kai. But also since Azula demonstrated the lightning bending, it seemed more impressive? That’s what I interpreted it as 😅
The issue is that Zuko never fought back in the original. The original scene was to show Ozai’s cruelty in burning his own son for refusing to duel him. “You WILL learn respect. And suffering will be your teacher.” Azula also doesn’t appear in season 1 of the original until the end of the final episode. She also never fights Ozai in the original so there’s nothing to base her fight on. I personally don’t think it even makes sense for her to fight him at all, since she’s basically the “golden child”
I loved your Avatar live action videos so much!! 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for taking the time editing them and stuff even when it felt kinda repetitive for you. They were really fun to watch and helped with my crave for more Avatar content after watching the show.
Aww thank you :) I’m very glad you enjoyed them 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
thank you for enduring a month of series editing to put this out. i had a great time watching your reactions as always and I always give you a lil wave back at the end of the video too😂💀
Omg 😂 that’s actually so sweet 👋👋👋
The hair is HAIRING in this video so pretty 😊
15:08 Vin DIesel and the internet has ruined that word for me, every time I hear it in shows now, I always imagine his face plastered on the face of the person saying it.
Girl ngl Kuruk could like, get it. Icy polar bear daddy 🥰
LOOOOOOL STOP 😂
8:50 I don't think it's odd that Roku was the main avatar spirit guide to Aang in the cartoon. He's the previous avatar, so that makes sense. But more importantly it's because Roku was entangled in how the 100 year war started. He's the avatar who like Aang, vanished when the world needed him most.
Of course it's cool to have these backstories on Kuruk and Kiyoshi. But for the most part, Roku being the more prominent avatar makes sense. His connections with the royal family in the past and in the present are woven in the greater conflict and the personal conflicts in the show. And those revelations hold greater weight because we have seen Roku throughout the different seasons/books and as the dedicated force jedi ghost mentor to Aang when he truly needs it. His mentorship to Aang is integral to central narrative.
Honestly I think one of the very few things the live action series did better was fleshing out Yue's spirituality and connection to the moon spirit as well as making her a bender. I liked her statement to Sokka that dying is a natural part of the cycle and her acceptance of her fate. It felt more condensed and kind of tacked on to me in the animated series. In almost every way the animated series is better but I do think Amber Midthunder's Yue, unfortunate wig aside, was impeccable. I'm sad they didn't adapt the episode The Deserter into season 1 but if we see it in season 2 at some point it would be amazing.
15:21 fun fact. In Spanish the series is called "Avatar: La leyenda de Aang" (Avatar: the legend of Aang). When I saw this I thought it was a cute reference. Don't know if they made it consciously tho, it probably was a reference to Korra as you said!!
I def won’t be watching season 2 or 3 just because I’m a super fan and don’t think this should have even been a thing but I will stay for the reactions lol. I wonder how different it would of been if the original creators stayed
I wonder that too!
@@SophiaPhannnhopefully they will give us something in the near future! 😫
7:00 Pakku was valid here. Aang did zero waterbending training from the south to the north pole. Meanwhile Katara got to master level.
As early as episode 2 here, Aang and Katara had a scene where Katara invited Aang to train together. It ended nicely and what I assumed was Aang agreeing. Coz the scene ended with them playing in the water. And this episode comes to reveal Aang did no waterbending training all these time while Katara got master level, on her own coz of course the power is inside her all along. Screw bending form, art and culture that she talked about.
The show is in conflict with itself. The show gave Aang a vision of the North getting destroyed. So as early episode 2, Aang is depicted as dutifully trying to get to the north water tribe to help. But not with waterbending, apparently? Which would be very useful in the north.
Oh no. I don't agree at all with Katara.
They did her DIRTY in this show. She barely has agency and importance throughout the show, just starting to actually have development in these last two episodes. Katara being called a master and believing herself to be one is ridiculous, and I actually rolled my eyes when you cheered to that?
If you believe that yourself so much, go ahead. get one single video about how to fight boxing and practice only what for a month or two. Then challenge a 40-50 year-old man who's had a boxing career. See how well you do. Even if you're talented you're not beating him.
In the original Katara has more rage, passion, and determination. She utterly looses the fight, but she's never defeated, she always got up, and remained defiant. Katara then proves her point, becoming a master and Paku's best student, surpassing all the men through both her dedication and talent.
In the other hand we got a girl who was mellow and depressed most of the time, suddenly growing a backbone, and it is such a whiplash that she even self-proclaims herself a master, just because a single kid show her admiration. No girl that is not being a master, that is vanity. Stop cheering on entitlement and reward ACTUAL improvement through real effort.
You must’ve missed my second video where I was dragging how they were portraying Katara lol
Please calm down, there is more important stuff to be pressed about, don't waste your stress on being mad at a show. Of course it could have been better (for sure it could've been worse lol) but we don't gotta be all extra about it.
I found the bit of the many tailed fox kinda cool especially for those of you who know about the 9/many-tailed fox in East Asian myths
They kind of had to take out Kataang because Gordon (Aang) was 11 while filming and Kiawentiio (Katara) was 15 while filming. So yeah….we’ll probably get it by S3 but without all kisses.
13:54 They could've just thrown water on him to sell the effect. But in the animated people don't often look wet as well, unless they get hit by a tidal wave or something.
I'm not exaggerating when I say the wigs made this series a 6/10 instead of an 8/10
$120 million budget and none went into the wigs…
6.5/10 is def the right rating... Decent, just above average. But probably not good enough to really be a proper foundation for a great series.. I could see seasons 2+3 being a 7.5/10 maybe? But i think they kinda missed on the establishment of a lot of main characters, and its hard to just play catchup w/ that.
i just assumed it was roku more because he was the most recent avatar, before aang right? like his most recent self. and its been a while since I've seen the original but isn't he directly responsible fo the shit that aang is in? if so it's weird that the show would want to absolve him of any blame and guilt (by just ommitting him cause idk we needed a 10ft woman to possess aang and make a cool fight scene) when that's a part of aang's arc as well??
Ohhh yeah that IS true. I was gonna say that maybe Roku will come back in the future seasons, but Aang would have to go back to the fire temple to speak with him so idk 🧐
At least the lead actress of Princess Yue has 'PREY' and her ongoing future in the 'Predator' franchise now that she's done with Netflix's 'Avatar' series.
Imagine seeing the moon disappear and then it suddenly reappear… like a lunar eclipse? Interesting thought on the day of the solar eclipse
Also are they just not gonna do the library episode because they already did the owl and now the last scene with the comet coming but that episode is so important with Aang with appa and come on toph funny moments and cactus juice!
I’m hoping they include that episode because it directly leads to the Appa episode 😩 I NEED IT
I’m really like your reactions to the series Sophia you make them fun to watch and I’m just happy they kept the storyline of the Waterbender Master not wanting to teach Katara because she’s a woman because I was worried they were going to take it off and of course Princess Yue and Sokkas’s relationship ❤️ but what I don’t like is you don’t really see Aang do any waterbending at all it really irritated me like the whole part of them going to waterbending tribe was so Aang and Kate’s could learn but he didn’t even do anything 😡 but I still enjoyed everything else and thanks for the videos 😊😄👍
Yeah it’s a bummer that aang didn’t do any water bending in this season :( they wanted to focus mostly on katara I guess
I will say I’m sad that we won’t have that moment where Ty Lee says Azula is perfect and she responds “well you’re right about all those things, but…” in the beach episode or anything comparable because of this insecurity right off the bat narrative. Obviously the insecurity and perfectionism is underneath for animated Azula but she’s also confident or at least presents that way. Maybe just in her interactions with Mai & Ty Lee, but I can imagine she might be bragging in front of Zuko when they come face to face so I hope we get some of that energy
I agree!! Ty Lee and Mai were both underwhelming this season, but maybe they’ll be utilized better in the next seasons
Legend of Aang was their original title when making the original cartoon. And yes the spirit water can heal people on the brink of death
But can just ANYONE come back there lol the oasis seemed pretty sacred, so you would think it would be gatekept a little
@@SophiaPhannn spirit water apparently connects to the spirit world and it helps with Korra and her friends in Korra book 2

I never played in Wimbledon.
But I also never lost in a final... unilike you!
The series feels rushed and I didn't like some changes because they either showed the screenwriters didn't understand certain aspects of the original story or they were unnecessary.
So my main problem wasn't with aesthetics but with characters and plot changes. Oh well… 🤷🏻♀️
I get not all the water benders/water tribe having blue eyes but if anyone should it should be Yue and and at least make her eyebrows match the wig come on

LOOOOOL honestly that sounds like something I’d say too though 😂

That would’ve been so fun to watch 🤭

The reason Roku is the main avatar, is because he is aangs predecessor/
All the roku couldn't finish will be passed to aang.
They wanted kyoshi spotlight because forced girl power.
I don't really think that's a valid argument. They didn't really focus on her in the grand scheme of things any more or less than the original they just changed when and where it happend mixing avatar day with the kyoshi island episode. They just wanted to show more of Aangs past lives and there affect on the world. Which I think was a welcomed changed I mean in the original he almost never talked to most of them until the very last book.
What's with the sleeves. I can't see those beautiful bracelets you always wear
You should react to The Legend of Korra
That one sucks too
I see what you did there Sophia droping this during the eclipse. Trying to make us choose between celestial bodies. I swear i was gonna loose my crap if they had killed Momo.
