    Thank you so much for this very informative video. My sink has been down for 3 weeks. Every time I go to Home Depot there's no one that can help me on the aisle so I have to ask plumbers that are buying things. I haven't been able to see up close until I watched your video and I really appreciate it. I'm 64, female and my dad was a plumber but I only know how to do basic toilet fixing things. I just put a new garbage disposal in but I took it back out because now I don't necessarily want to have one. So your video came in perfectly on time. And again thank you so much for posting.

    Excellent instructional video and well produced. I learned one additional trick on installing a new sink and faucet watching videos like this. Attach as much as you can before setting the sink in place, which usually means the faucet and possibly the garbage disposal, especially the faucet which is much harder to get to. But, you still have to get up under there to make final adjustments and tightening. Thanks again.

    It's easier to put on all sink components before you drop the sink and put plumbers putty on drain baskets

    always glue both pieces when fitting a pipe joint, and plumbers putty works just fine for enameled cast iron under the faucet skirt with the added benefit of not gluing the faucet to the sink.

    Tape really does help. I have used the tape method to "control" unnecessary cracking or chipping when cutting and it works most of the time. Many homeowners do not have the money or sometimes the time to go get new blades or new/special tools and need to use what they have. In this case, yes the sink will cover up the cut area so no tape is needed. For DIY homeowners, tape can be a very useful tool. It is always good to try because at the end of the day, you spent 25 cents on tape but it did not work or you spent 25 cents on tape to make your project look better.

    Jeff, new subscriber here. I have watched several of your videos and I have to say all your instructions are clear and all your commentaries while you do redundant things are insightful and beneficial. Because of your approach in teaching and video editing, your videos are not unnecessarily long where it is boring and never too short where there is not enough detail to know what you are actually doing. Bravo Jeff! Appreciate very much from a subscriber from Kansas City, USA. Thank you.

    Always caulk the underside of sink rim before dropping the sink in. There will be no way to caulk behind the tap deck once installed, and that area is the most prone to water infiltration.

    I'm installing a dual tub cast-iron sink that weighs a ton. It has no way to do clips on the bottom. Do I just put plumber's putty under the lip and let gravity hold it down only?
    Or leave it the putty and only silicone the edges?

    Great video, just a couple of tips, always check the clearance of the faucet to the window sill/trim, many times the faucet will not fit because of this. 2nd a drain clean out is always recommended under a kitchen sink. Actually in Ontario it is code to have a clean out before and after the trap, on an island sink trap such as you have there.

    • @WoodUCreate
      @WoodUCreate 5 лет назад

      @@grandmasoffgridliving what would the gasket seal then? The metal cup? No, it is not a drainage area where waste will come down. To be fair though, usually you want to use the supplied gaskets if possible, but with cast iron the holes aren't as fitted like a stainless steel sink so plumbers putty is probably a better choice.

      The trap is below the floor close to basement window mostlikely below the joist The contractor who is going to finish the basement will remove it and connects only straight pipe to the kitchen so he can have a nice finish of the basement window.

    Why not fix the taps first before you place the sink in place

    Geee, I wanted to see if it leaked with first turn of the valve and first drain of the full sink.

  • @tcl5853
    @tcl5853 3 года назад

    It’s gonna leak around the edges of the sink. Water will infiltrate under it. Period. He did say to use clear silicone caulking. There are other sealants, but if one isn’t used it will leak.

    I am not a plumber, but you missed some very important things, a P TRAP!! and its not a gasket under the lip, its plumbers putty or caulk under it after your dry fit would have been better than after install which will just get gross. Also not sure why you took off the front part of the cabinet.

      1 strainer I threw out the gasket and used putty only because it was too thick and made the drain the high point.

      The gasket goes between the sink and lower assembly UNDER the sink. Plumbers putty goes between the top assembly and sink ....
