Installing a new kitchen sink may seem like a huge undertaking, but if your moderately handy around the house and don't mind getting down under the sink, I'm sure that you'll be able to pull this one off no problem! This video tutorial does not feature a garbage disposal since we have a septic tank. If your kitchen sink has a garbage disposal you'll just need to take that into account and purchase the proper adapters in order to connect it to your drain pipe.
We used our old builders-grade double sink for years before I decided to make the switch to a large single bay kitchen sink and I'm really glad I did. It makes washing bigger pots and pans a breeze and offers more space for rinsing and soaking. If you want to know how to replace your kitchen sink, this video is for you!

Quite possibly the best installation I have ever watched, straight to the point and not skipping any important steps.....job well done, sir!
Thanks for the kind words! I really appreciate that and I'm glad it helped out.
Ditto ❤ Thank you so much
I need to hire this guy he definitely knows what he's doing
Haha. Thanks for the confidence in me!
Straightforward, answered questions I wasn't even thinking about and all the ones I was. No long intro or hyping up your own business. I've watched a lot of RUclips tutorials over the years after owning a home and this is far and away the best guide, if I could give you more thumbs ups I would. Kudos
Hey, thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. (And yes, I try not to waste anyone’s time!) I hope your project goes smoothly.
He needs to make tutorials for everything home related! This was perfectly explained
Hey, thanks for the comment! I really appreciate it 👍🏼
This is fantastic! The best tutorial I have found. I just wish you added a garbage disposal 😂.
Hey thanks for the comment. I’m glad the video helped out!
Can you please explain how we would do it including a garbage disposal?
Since I found this video I have watched it a number of times, so now I am ready to install my sink. You explain the process so well, and you take your time to make it easy to follow. A big thanks!
Hey thanks for the comment! Mines still doing great. Some others have since commented that using a sealant between the sink basin and countertop is best practice. I can’t really advise one way or the other on that, but I sleep good with mine the way it is. I don’t often get water outside of the sink basin..
Straight to the point and super informative. My husband and I are new homeowners and replaced the sink ourselves thanks to this video!
WOW,,, straight and to the point. Only one trip to hardware store. Knew exactly what I needed. BEST VIDEO EVER.
From Stagecoach NV
Great timing, and great vid!
One of the best instructional videos I’ve seen, the perfect amount of information, thanks so much!
Hey thanks! I appreciate the kind words
Good instructor. I learned how to replace the sink. It give me a big help. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I'm glad it helped!
Nice job explaining everything. 👍🏼
Hey thanks! I'm glad it helped out
Perfect explanation! Now do it all again with a garbage disposal at one side!
Appreciate the excellent video man
Thanks for the video. I’ll do electric all day but I don’t touch plumbing. I was concerned about going from two bay to one but it looks straight forward enough even taking the garbage disposal into account.
I hear ya! Plumbing can be intimidating but it’s a lot easier than you think once you break it down.
I’m doing mine tomorrow. I feel sure watching this saved me multiple trips to town. Ha ha excellent video. I’ll make sure to know the pipe size before I head to Lowe’s.
Nice, hope it goes well! I'm ALWAYS running back to the store, but hopefully the video saves you a trip or two. In the end it's well worth the effort!
thanks for the video, super helpful!
Excellent instruction! Well done!
Thanks for the video! I was actually going to get the Fenway this weekend and do the install but the Theo is only$20 more right now. I think its the same sink just 1" deeper. I am going from the hideous 2 basin sink to 1! I can't wait to install it this weekend. I am keeping my old faucet but upgrading it to a single sprayer head type whenever mine ships.
It wont be here soon enough so im keeping the old one until then.
Good deal. Did the install wind up working out for you? I still really like the new style, the only problem is the single drain strainer clogs up faster since there's only 1, lol..
Big, huge help since I can not get a plumber to show up. I'm going to have to tackle it myself. Yeah, I saw in the comments about the disposal. I need to figure that out as well.
I like the detail explaination
Excellent video. I'm about to undertake this project and I'm also going from two drains to one and my plumbing looks identical to yours underneath. I have to cut a little extra room to drop my new sink in though and this is my first time using a jigsaw so wish me luck!
I know it's been a couple of weeks since your comment, but good luck! I hope the project turns out awesome!
@@WesleyAllenNC Whew, it was much harder than anticipated! I got about 1/3 done with the jigsaw when I was like “why is this so hard!?” Turns out it was a granite countertop, not a laminate! Ended up getting it done and it all looks nice though. Thanks!
Very helpful!! Thank you! 😊
Your welcome! Thanks for dropping a comment 😊
Unless the manufacturer says so sealant isn't an optional step unless you really want to have the fun and joy of repairing or replacing the countertop.
True. Water will eventually will get there. I'm having to replace my sink with sealant because it was never installed before.
Great explanation
Glad you think so!
Great video! Im not sure if Chewy was too happy to hear more baths for him 😂
Yeah he didn’t look very thrilled!
Exactly the kind of video I was looking for, as I am removing our old dual bowl and going to a single bowl sink. I like the drop in version better than under mount. Any thoughts on which would be a better option drop in vs undermount? Any pro's on here with thoughts on that? Great job, video covered all my questions. Appreciate it. All the best!
Thank you so much for the video. I just have a question. What if we have a dishwasher and a garbage disposal?
I wondering if you didn’t add garbage disposal ? I have double sink with garbage disposal and I wanted to use single sink but I don’t know how I can add the garbage disposal to the new single sink .
Anyway it was just a constructive question I'm getting ready to try this by watching your video 10 times to give myself confidence. I'm switching from a stainless steel double bowl and the wife wants a deeper single bowl or Bay as you call it.. it also has a dishwasher and that's it. What is the easiest way to measure at the top your double bowl to make sure you get a replacement sink that will drop in the rectangular hole
Sorry for the late response! I just measured my existing sinks length and width and found this one at Lowes with the same measurement's. They are typically fairly standardized sizes in construction unless someone built a custom sink at some point. But there ARE slightly different sizes, so you'll just need to check your current sinks length and width.
Thank you so much for your help 🙏🏼💪🏼
Your welcome. I’m glad the video helped out!
very informative.. Thank you..
Great informative video, thank you
Hey, your welcome!
What about if there is a garbage disposal same thing except minus the pipe that attaches directly to your sink ?
I’ve never had a garbage disposal, but from what I’ve seen you’ll just connect it to your drain in a similar fashion. You might need a slightly different adapter or PVC connector though?
@ I did it ! Had to buy different size tail pipe to go from garbage disposal to a 90 to the J trap . Appreciate the response !
Thank you for this!!
Hey, you’re welcome!
Thank you for the amazing video. I have a question about the dishwasher vent. Mine comes out of the sink top like where I would add like a soap dispenser or something. I want a new sink and would like to get rid of vent. Do I just get that pipe and have the water just go directly into the drain?? That seems so simple like why did they need my make my vent come out of the sink haha
So I’m not an expert on these things, but my Dishwasher has a heat/steam vent that comes directly from the front of the unit itself. The pipe I installed in the video was the actual water drain for the dishwasher so that dirty water is pumped down the drain after the cycle is complete. If your dishwasher was some sort of piped or external vent, you would have a more unique situation than mine..
Would you recommend using a garbage disposal? I currently have one in a 2 bowl sink. I want to go to single bowl but not sure if I should leave disposal in or not. Thank you!
I would say for a garbage disposal, it first depends on whether or not you have municipal sewer or a private septic field for your waste water. If it’s a septic tank, not recommended (Too much grease and foods in your tank). If you have City sewer then it’s just a personal preference and only really needed if you want to use one. You’ll just need to scrape your plates into the compost or trash if you opt out. Then put a little drain catch in place to catch all your smaller food debris..
So I need this exact thing done and have purchased the same sink and a new faucet and drain. I have watched your video multiple times with my husband and I thnk we can do this. However he had plumbers give us a quote and they are in the range of $1600. The quote says install customer supplied sink and faucet and cut and install new drainage under sink. And it's a half days work provided all is good. I know people and companies need work too but I think that is way too much. 🤔
I’m no plumber, but that does seem like a very high quote. But then again I really don’t know what it would cost on average to have a sink installed..
Yes that is crazy high! I got several quotes for the exact same job and they were all under $500!
Great video, up until you recommended the flex tail piece. I would never recommend these for a permeant install maybe for a temporary fix in a pinch.
Agreed. Those would only be for applications that have no other choice (cannot DIY actual plumbing themselves or don’t have the money to hire it out)
6:06 what sealant can I use to make sure no water can penetrate underneath it? Or do I just use a caulk? Is there a specific one I should be using?
I feel like a lot of people don’t have a garbage disposal? Is it more complicated with one
It’s slightly more complicated only in the fact that you have to plumb and plug in the disposal. Shouldn’t be too terribly difficult to do
I see chewy is ready for a bath now 😂
how would you add a garbage disposal to this
I am a retired professional firefighter and I am in no way any kind of construction worker or Home Improvement guy. I was just wondering why you did not install the sink strainer while the sink was on the floor
I suppose you could also do it that way without any issue. There's certainly nothing wrong with doing it that way. I guess for me it was just to make sure I could put some decent torque on the strainer flange without having to hold the loose sink in place.
@@WesleyAllenNC thanks for taking the time to respond. I have one more question this house I bought has a metal double bowl so when I measure to go with a single Bowl drop in how do I measure the 12 6 and 3/9 dimensions? Logic tells me to the very edge of the sink metal to the very edge on the other side. My wife's number one complaint is this single handle faucet the whole fixture seems to have a little bit of wobble and you can see the metal Flex in the steel she wants to go with something thick and rigid and a single Bowl. Of course the sink we have now is a drop-in not an under counter sink thanks for your time
9:05 good video. But it would have helped to show disposal installation.
Thanks. I would, but we have a septic tank so I toss all my scraps instead
What happened to your garbage disposal?
We’ve never had one, we’re on a septic tank so disposals aren’t recommended
SERIOUSLY UR DOG IS SITTING IN THE KITCHEN SINK???
