    I have been very nostalgic recently about my childhood so this actually made me cry. I have many fond memories of storybook land and the bookworm really stands out most. I went as a small child with my nan who is no longer here making it extra bittersweet thinking about those times. It is a shame theme parks leave items especially ones with memories to rot but so glad there are people like you to save items especially something so special as the bookworm.

    I tip my hat to you dude. As a child of the 70s I had a number of trips to the towers in the 80s with family then in the 90s when I could drive me and car load of mates would visit the towers and American adventure twice a year and as far as I'm concerned the 90s where the golden years.
    I love your enthusiasm for place its most refreshing, reminds me of how we felt about it 25-30yrs ago. What your doing here is superb, well done and keep up the good work. 👍

    This guy is my biggest and one of few memories of towers, this is one of the things I would spend half the day standing around when I was younger and i was devastated when it left as much as I had got old enough to find my feet with the bigger rides and the rest of the park this is something I still hold dear and means a lot to me.

    Heavy nostalgia for Alton Towers in the late 90s early 2000s there. There was just such an epic feel about the place almost like a Disney Park where everything looked like it ran flawlessly and big money had been invested in every little detail.

  • @alb5338
    @alb5338 4 года назад

    Being from the US, I can only imagine what it would have looked like in person at its prime. If you ask me, I've always been in love with animatronics (that you control). The engineering and craftsmanship of the Storybook Land Bookworm remind me of WED Enterprises when they first made the President Lincoln animatronic for the New York World's Fair. Through trial and error, they were able to perfect the art, which played an important role not only in their parks but also when the Bookworm was built. Thanks for sharing the restoration process. I can't wait for the next episode!

    Thanks for sharing this video to show everyone the project! One big thing though 14:00 the mechanical parts that make the bookworm move werent removed in 2014 because these clips show the cylinders were still there until you removed them (except for just the base pivot). There were no motors that made him move, he was all pneumatic. All you'd have needed to get him moving again was some new tubing to the cylinders, a small compressor and a simple control system. He'll never move again now, oh well never mind

    • @ThemeParkWorldwide
      @ThemeParkWorldwide  4 года назад

      Thanks for watching! We removed the remaining mechanics after finding there were quite a few that were damaged, laying in pieces on the floor at Alton Towers. I would of loved to of saved all the mechanics and tried to get some movement, but it was clear this would be a near impossible undertaking for us, especially not having any knowhow in animatronics!

    I have no interest in theme parks at all really Shaun. Your videos just appeal me for some reason! I find myself asking questions and you always seem to reply! I thank you. Your enthusiasm is infectious and you’re a brilliant film maker.

    Brings back so many fantastic memories at the park over the years - quite emotional to be honest. Love the editing you've done on it all. Really a pleasure to watch and the bookworm is in the best hands!
