Cycling to Alton Towers! Local Facts During My Daily Exercise

- The UK is still under lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however leaving your home for exercise is still permitted. As I live close to Alton Towers, the roads leading up to the resort are the perfect place for a relaxing ride through the Staffordshire countryside. By travelling this route, it's also very easy to remain more than 2 metres away from everyone, something that must be followed to maintain social distancing.
Along with showing you the journey from the my hometown of Uttoxeter, I also share various different facts about some of the other landmarks along the way. This includes JCB World Headquarters, the villages of Denstone & Alton, along with much more! The total amount of time I was out on my cycle ride was just over 60 minutes.

12 million £ for a by-pass segment is a good park Resort upgrade trade off for another coaster installation year.

My grandparents live in Thorpe a near by village we visit Alton towers a lot when we go I feel like I’m there now

Georgia Hollows for me it is 6 hours so I leave at like 3 am to make it before opening. I like the park and wished I lived next to it too. (Well close)

I live about four hours away, and I usually get to go every other year (was meant to go in June this year). We usually get a hotel for two nights and spend one day at Alton Towers and one at Drayton Manor. Wish I lived closer, my closest theme park is Paultons Park and that’s not thrilling enough for me and I’ve been there too many times!

Hi Shawn I've cycled around Bournemouth Seafront and Back again the other day and Great film cycling.
What a great video both in terms of content and the edit. There was a good amount of voiceover and just audio. The facts were really interesting, particularly the walking route along the old train line that comes out at the station house. Do you know if you can see the old station house? I’m really interested in disused train lines and stations.

Used to love going with school and going through the village brought back alot of memories seeing all the landmarks and knowing that we were close to the park 😂😂 I can not wait to get back

I've never been to Alton Towers so it was particularly interesting seeing the surrounding area! You'd never know that a Theme Park was hiding behind all those Trees. Really enjoyed it!

Mate I’ve always wanted to do this, I could write a book about all the times I’ve passed that JCB factory on all the bus trips I’ve taken down to the park and the anticipation of arriving there is some of my best memories. Thanks so much for doing this.

I don’t drive, so for my son’s 13th birthday, and my sister’s 30th, we travelled from Lincoln to Uttoxeter on the train, then my sister (who drove up from further south) picked us up at the train station. It’s such a shame that there isn’t a train to Alton! As a cyclist, it’s great to see your route, and lockdown has been brilliant for cycling, but also the infrastructure needs improving!

When I stayed over near Stoke last year to visit Alton Towers, we defintiely passed the JCB factory but can't remember seeing much else. We went on some very winding and steep roads though, so must've been a different route
I have been to Alton towers many times. One time was on a school trip and once was when I won the junior chef competition at the rollercoaster restaurant.
Even watching the parts where it is getting closer makes me feel excited for when I can go back

I live in Derbyshire and last year I travelled around that area cleaning holiday cottages. I recognized Alton. Beautiful little village. Has a certain feel about it, if you get what I mean. Great video with lots of interesting facts. Thank you!

Living in London, I have so many fond memories of our yearly trips to Alton tower. The excitement after sitting in the car for 4 hours when you see the digger.
Alton Towers is my #1 bucket-list park to get to overseas. Someday, I will get to see this footage for myself.
Our journey has loads of landmarks on the way but it builds up more and more excitement as you start to recognise the road and even the trees nearing the park XD
I drive to Alton Towers from the Midlands and takes around 1 hour 30 mins and it's such a beautiful drive 👌🏻 windows down, music up and just enjoy the surroundings 🤘🏻
That could be a good thought for me. A cycle to paultons park then back to my parents house. Then again, I need to learn cycling on the road and hand signals.

I am from Spain and I visited the park in October, I stayed at Marple Bridge and enjoyed the journey to the park, it is a fantastic location

Nah! In the UK, Staffordshire it’s normal to have cyclists but it’s highly annoying if you can’t over take them, this has happened to us on numerous occasions.
Thanks for bringing back childhood memories from the 80s and the 90s. Used to go to Alton Towers at least 3 times a year with all our cousins. Lived in Manchester.
Now I'm a single mun living in London with no easy way to get to Alton Towers. I don't drive and public transport is too long as well as far to expensive
I hope you get to visit again at some point in the future!

Visited alton towers last year and stayed in Uttoxeter, was great and this was such a familiar route that we went to get to the theme park the 2 days we went.
I remember the employee entrance you rode past being the main entrance for the public in the early '80s. Good effort Shawn!

I remember a school trip to Alton Castle, we did trekking and i could just see the most southern point of Galactica
I remember going on a few jogs around the lake nearby JCB too after work on several occasions.

Weirdly, I never drive to Alton Towers through uttoxeter, but that route is always how I go home.

I am so lucky to be a resident of Alton... born and bred in the area!! :-D Alton Towers site behind our home and we get the free fireworks displays every year. So surreal how quiet it is this year!!

I’m gonna be honest but when you have to drive 2 and a half hours you don’t really notice many landmarks but when you live half an hour from chessington and Thorpe park you notice a lot more than here ( but the drive to Alton towers is so much nicer than either of those parks)

Interesting seeing the journey to Alton Towers from the other direction. I live to the north and travel via Leek, past the Peak Wildlife park, and then through Farley near the end.
