    **CORRECTION** full e85 will use 140% more fuel not 200%!
    If you like please spread the word and help grow the channel!! Thank you all!!!

      40%*

    • @EB-dr4dd
      @EB-dr4dd 6 лет назад +3

      It is all in the tune and varies from engine platform and design. For a stock or non power adder setup E85 can get away with lean because of low IAT.

    • @QargZer
      @QargZer 6 лет назад +5

      Evil GST 40% would mean he is saving fuel not burning more...
      140% is baseline 100% plus 40% more fuel.

    • @SomethingFunny454
      @SomethingFunny454 6 лет назад +12

      100% more is twice as much, not 200%

    • @QargZer
      @QargZer 6 лет назад +17

      It uses 40% more fuel which is 140% fuel consumption
      100% more is the same as 200%
      The part I was trying to point out was after he said it uses 40% more fuel he compares 40% to 200%. We all knew what he was saying but comparing 40% to 200% is not correct.

    I'd say 40% if your WOT all the time. Otherwise 20 to 30 percent increase is a good benchmark. You'll see the most benefits in TBI setups. The e85 sucks the heat out like crazy. The intake on my 65 ranchero is cold enough it's uncomfortable to touch.

    I really need the data because my very popular LS7 head designer is sending me signals that he may have inadvertently sent the compression ratio in my 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 427 convertible past 12:1. Its a cruiser but I did ask for 700 HP if it wasn’t pushing him and the baby cammed, fully ported, long tubed header, ram air type intake (but otherwise stock😊) NA too far. I’ve been running octane booster with 91 octane gas, best you can get in Kansas, but while it performs fantastic above 2000 RPM the hurky-jerkiness I feel if the RPMs drop tells me something needs adjusting. Your videos are helping me understand that I would probably be wasting my time if I simply tried to tune out the low end jerkiness. Worse yet, I have considered putting a 3.90 differential in. I think you are onto something!

    Great overview, I have been wanting to go E85 for years, we are finally seeing E85 at the pumps all around Northern Virginia. 2014 Z51 so seeing you getting 20HP which is nice but cutting emissions is also a feel good thing. Now wondering after E85 alone, where is the best bang for buck. Like to get that 500 HP NA as i had in the previous 2007 Z06. Headers, Intake stuff????? Thanks for posting useful in for and valid test results, too many clown acts of there. Stay Well, D Could include emissions results from E85. The C7 has 4V mode so i thought with E85 we could get greater then 30 MPG, And 50% lower Emissions. what do you think?

    Ran nothing but E85 for about 2 years in my '96 460 mostly because it was so much cheaper per gallon - like a buck cheaper where I was at then. The tune is much easier for me with OBD1 and a dist that triggers injectors and spark. Just gotta crank it up a few (several) degrees and it runs fine. I'm about 9:1 cr , and with roughly 6mpg city I don't even notice an efficiency difference. The one thing that didn't live through it was the plastic clips on the fuel senders that held the float arms. No biggie.

    Have you seen the RealSt Performance channel showing that the ethanol sensors are only testing conductivity of the fluid and not the actual octane of the fuel. What they showed was that water contamination, which is common with ethanol, skews the readings greatly when the octane of the fuel has not changed (and most likely "lessened" due to water diluting the fuel). I think they measured straight water and it showed it as e100 also. Real real bad.

    The most gain I’ve seen by simply switching to ethanol was on 2015+ Subaru WRX’s with their new direct injection 2.0. I had 2 of them and both gained around 100HP/TQ just by switching fuel and building a flex tune. Granted this is in Arizona. Our 91 is trash, and our ethanol is mostly 54% where some stations can have up to 70%. So there is more room for improvement from 91 to ethanol here.

    Is that a universal kit? I know u told me b4 on another video that my g6 gtp lz9 (3900) was limited on aftermarket parts for performance, but want to know what I could do to benefit from flex fuel options. In colorado I have e85 and e86 which I use e86 and see decent improvement in mpg and some power but being able to fully utilize e85 would be awesome. Been reseaching other gm cars with similar motors to the lz9 but only stuff i find in forums are basic bolt on stuff like ebay intakes because theres more aftermarket for 3500 version vs 3900 lz9. If this is something I can buy and use please let me know. Id love to get the most out of the car since I really do enjoy it and since theres not many modded out there the unique factor is what has me wanting to persue what others wouldn't. Thanks is advance because you're just awesome!

    @fasterproms I know this isnt fuel related but i saw you mention that you port heads. How would one go about getting you to port and polish heads? Also what kind of benefits would i see from ported and polished heads on my L92 AWD yukon denali? I have btr stage 2 truck cam, vvt delete, ls6 valve springs ls7 lifters, high volume oil pump, arp style summit head studs, long tube headders, k&n cold air intake. Thats what i have so far but im gana strip down the engine again to put a forged rotating assembly thicker pushrods and trinion upgrades for my rockers....with all that being said im trying to upgrade as much as i can lol would porting and polishing 823 heads give me any benefits at all? I would prefer lower end torque more that high rpm power obviously high power will be obtained but i dont wana sacrifice low end torque. Really sorry to ramble but just trying to wrap my head around this still lol. Thanks in advance @fasterproms

    E85 is great for high compression na and high boost. However, converting gas to E85 with just sensor and not redoing the entire fuel system that’s E85 compatible will cause problems down the road with the plastics in the tank and some rubber and some o rings. Injectors should be checked for compatibility. Using an stability additive definitely helps.

    • @Highlander1432
      @Highlander1432 Год назад

      What ? No.
      I think the only downside is the fuel system has to work alot harder

  • @cstavro
    @cstavro 5 лет назад

    Straight gas to E85 is 29% more mass at the same lambda, and 5% more torque (because there's 5% more energy in the mass of fuel). Starting with E10 only nets 4.5% more torque. Being knock limited with gasoline will give better results with E85. E85 burns faster than gasoline so you need to advance ignition timing. Speaking in terms of % instead of absolute hp change makes it easier to compare apples to apples.

    Really intresting video.
    Thanks!
    Fun to hear you talk about the added power on alco.
    A fun thin I id see for years ago are the Volvo made Ford Mondeo engine, also the platform on the Ford are built from same as Volvos V70, the frivtrain are the same, and I think the ECU also are the same. It must have with the maps to do.
    None of them talk at all about hp gain, only about just have to have more fuel, the both have same gear ratio.
    Both needs more fuel for same hp, but the Ford needs (tech numbers) oer 30% more, and the Volvo about 27%more.
    Ford have less weight and better CW than the Volvo.
    But still none do compete tha gain in power like SAAB did, and also you talk about.
    If we consider to run on only E85, even if the quality mix iffers from time to time, we must be able to make a better fuel efficient map with same hp as original, and then run on same or even less fuelconsumption than on gas.
    SAAB befor the breakeown where talking about it, but also I know that was a different engine, built from bottom to top to run on E85 or even E100, and on gas like on emegency.
    But also they talked about excisting engines if you map them for only E85 (in sweden the quality of E85 are pretty stable).
    The new SAAB engin in lab had some interesting things on the go.
    They also tried some 3cyl 1,3 to 1,6L engines. What I have figured out they did increase the compression ratio pretty mutch for the E85+ engine.
    Have not checked if they did do the Eco Power engins with higher compression ratio than the standard engines.
    Anhow they where on a very intresting road of Exx fuel, but as the breakdown and GM was foreced to sell out and cut in brands SAAB was pretty mutch very easy to "dump" sad for SAAB, but also sad for GM that not could bring to mutch into GM from SAAB as they had in minde to do. Many protected tech patented outside of GM that GM when make the choice to cut off SAAB thought they just could bring in.
    The sad part are that loads of tech whent out in the dark space for several years in patent locked in time as allways.
    Some engineerers have reenginered some tings from that time, I know some of the SAAB employed got work in other companies like in PSA for like Peeugeot, and a few things has appeard there but reenggineered to go around the patents from SAAB.
    Anyhow do you have any ideas about what to do?
    I have some ideas about it. dream about to build an engine, base on what I have, a SAAB 2,0 or 2,3 turbos.
    Increase the comp-ratio to about 14:1 maybe it even would be better to go higher than that, and I think that the new SAAB engine, never left out, did have pretty mutch higher com-ratio than those old engines, about 8:1-10:1 comp-ratios. older Turboengines do run on lower comp-ratio than later onece, I think the OG900T do have about 8:1
    As far as I have read and learnt Exx do run better on higher comp-ratio than on lower, and gas do not like those high comp-ratios.
    Even if it are possible to run on gas, it will be what I think on less fuel injected to prevent any knockings,
    Probably it would be possible to blend the E85 with diesel and have a better result than with gas on an engine like that.
    What do you think? ofc there are some things to have in mind when go that way, and if diesel ad most as a thinking, one might have to watch the knocksensors a bit more.
    About E85 I wodedr if you know about SAABs maps, it are said that the EcoPower runs from 7-21% more from the 1,8t to the 2.3T and about 130-250Hp (on standard gas) an at same time as more hp if run on E85. What o they do different, for an example a Volvo 2.xt Flexfuel do not deliver more hp and takes about 30% more on E85.
    Any idea what SAAB did do?

    Great content guy. Love watching you and cleetus. So I have a question I'm trying to find someone who can tune or get my car to be able to run ethanol. It's a 2017 volvo s90 t6 momentum with a polestar tune. Not many will touch it cause it's a volvo. And supposedly the ecu is locked.

      Also it's a 2.0L GDI that is supercharged and turbocharged.

    i put 2 gallons of E85 in my non flex fuel, port injection, NA, daily car to see what happened and the AFR anywhere didnt change much. im guessing because it has wideband upstreams but idk. runs just as good as ever tho.

    Hey I’ve got a N/A 347 Foxbody I upgraded the fuel lines to 3/8” supply line, 1/4” return with an Aeromotive 340 in tank pump and motor sport green top 42lb injectors.. Would I need bigger injectors or lines to run E85, I’ve got a Big Stuff 3 ECU, which I’m assuming would need an E85 tune? Don’t think I can use a E85 sensor...

    I don't think RUclips wants me to watch you and Cletus. Everytime I watch, your video goes blank but the audio still works. So I have to reset it once every 3 minutes just to watch the whole video. But it's only on yours and Cleetus McFarland channel.

    If you use e100 you'll need a cylinder lube like marvel added. Other wise youll get excessive wear in the valve guides.
