I have been handloading for 30 years. Unless you stockpiled components from years past it is no longer worth the money to hanload. The only exception would be precision rifle. In the early 2000's you could buy primers at local gun shows for $65 per 5000 including tax if you paid cash. I still load .38 Special and .45 acp because they are so expensive. Jacketed pistol bullets are stupid expensive and gone are the bulk bullets that Remington and Winchester used to sell. I also wanted to add that if you handload remember your time is also worth something.

The same can be said for 223. If you didn't buy an AR and 10K rounds a few years ago, then there's no point now. I like to load 38 special too and 357 mag. I do play around with 9mm b/c I found a nice load for competitions. There are SPP available now so I only load for those cartridges.

Primers about $60. Powder about $45. Most I’ve paid delivered was around $75 a brick (small pistol) which was my limit. Got a keg of BL(C)2 for about $350 delivered.

3:34 Keep checking Starline. I bought 44-40 about a month ago. They're still showing it backordered, which means they intend to fill those orders.
Right now, they show 38-40 available, not backordered

I really like your channel and the way you speak. Luckily bo problems that bad around my neck of the woods in the west coast. I did get into magnum pistol primers in my small rifle loads territory, but I still was able to go.
Prices of powder are going up just fast enough to hurt but not fast enough to cause outrage.

I imagine things will not get much better until after the Ukraine conflict..

I’ve gone to buying in bulk as much as possible to save money and buying powders I typically would not use because they cost less. As an example, there are Fiocchi SRP’s at .07 each in 1500 qty. They have performed as good as CCI as far as I can tell. For powder, I pick up A2520 or TAC for 300/8Lb. For more precision ammo, I’ll use Superformance or Vihtavuori when it’s on sale. It’s not as cheap as it once was, but at least it’s not triple the price. I did get lucky last year in a sporting goods store that had Federal LRP’s for 75/1000. The limit was once brick per day and I went back 3 days in a row. They were nice enough to put them on layaway for me for the second and 3rd day.

I was just at sportsman's the other day and 1000 cci 400s are 89 clams. But they had plenty and they had a pallet of them in the back i saw with my own eyes. So its coming back just waiting for the price to go down some.

Didn't you listen to the video ? It's not coming down. Watch some Peter Schiff videos on the state of the dollar and you'll find it hard to sleep at night. Buy a few now. How much you gonna lose if I'm wrong ? Maybe $30 ?

We will never see 30.00 primers again thanks to basic inflation. Look at groceries, Houses, Cars trucks. Everything has gone up in cost as we spent trillions the last 4 yrs. I expect things are about 30% more at this point and primers are no different I bet. If were luck they may get down to 40-50 bucks if things go well in the next few yrs.

Its to the point that reloading is not cheaper than buying factory loads

Supply and demand states if enough people are buying it for 1,000 pcs for $90.00, and being glad it's not $30 for a 100 pack, then it'll stay that price all day to Sunday. It's not going down.

Loading components and whiskey, my 2 favorite things, have doubled in the last 5 years. It's a dammed travesty, .... I need a drink

primers in my area are starting to get to 65-70 dollars a thousand for pistol stuff. If the Ukraine war ends that will be the only way powder prices will go down.

Do you think gun prices will continue going down in 2025? The market seems already flooded, would like to land some deals.

Yes firearm prices will continue to come down. The dealers and distributers are already prepping for what they call the "Trump slump". The panic buying will stop and inventory will continue to increase. You will also see more and more incentives(rebates) from manufacturers. Give it about 9 months to a year and prices will be close to prepandemic levels I predict.

I'm hoping that antiques will come down a bit when people need to sell to pay bills. The opposite is true at the moment. I think a lot of Boomers with cash to spare are putting money into valuables.

And here in California, primers, powder and even bullets HAVE to be shipped to a FFL, then FFL fees and California fees.
