  • Working my way to stalls on the bigger walls and making good progress, though I am feeling it some (actually a lot) in my bones. Coming down fakie still causes me problems, but working hard on that in the new year. Another pre-injury video that just took a while to post!

    Love this! Keep working hard! One recommendation. When you’re comfortable (warmed-up) on the transitions at your park, work on a backside stall. @FlowerSheRolls does a great tutorial on RUclips that could really help. She’s great at breaking things down and is super detailed. Also, learning a backside stall early on is super important. It will help you stay in your line / connect your tricks and make everything easier in the long run. Great stuff dude, your progress is awesome 🤙🏼

      I leaned to backside stall using the @flowersherolls method. Took me about 6 months but now it's the trick i am most proud of because of how long it took. Getting the speed just right was why it took me so long. Not too fast and not too slow.

      I'm five and a half years in and still can't get backside stall 😅🤷🏻‍♂️ but I can totally see how it can allow you to continue a run instead of just hopping out

      @@Snifffski the thing that made it click for me was getting as close as possible to the coping, dropping in and jumping to the stall. Jump too early and you launch yourself out onto the deck.

      Those backside stalls still scare me. Once I get over this back issue I am going to start working on them on the slant wall, my son did that and has them down pretty good now. I watch a lot of the @FlowerSheRolls videos, I love how she always progresses thru all the things she has taught up to the point of the new one for that session. I try to model that at the park, running thru each thing I know how to do each session to keep it in my mind before I try something new. Been off the skates almost 2 weeks now with the hamstring/back injury so hopefully I won't feel like I'm starting over when I get back!

    Aging is inevitable, but being old is optional.

    A lot of progress there. 1 observations for dropping back in, bend your knees a bit more and if you watch back, generally, you fall when your feet are more parallel to each other. Get 1 foot further back and your balance will be better. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

      Sill working on the knees, that's easier said than done for an old guy!

  • @zekwilt
    @zekwilt 7 месяцев назад +1

    Try to bend those knees when you're dropping back in, use your legs like pistons to adjust for the transition. Impressive and super inspiring nonetheless, keep it up 👏

      Still working on the knees, I think my pistons are shot at this point and engine could use a rebuild!

    I’m a former skater from the 90’s 2000’s and inspired To get back into the game at 45

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  6 месяцев назад

      45 is still young! You won't be 20 again for sure, but you should be able to do just about everything you want. I didn't really start falling apart until my mid 50's and that mostly due to old injuries coming back to haunt me. Take care of your knees and back and you'll have many years left to crush it!

      @@theaverageoldguy unfortunately all those dumb things I did as a kid with the skating and not listening to my parents of course has really caught up to me quickly I can feel all my old injuries. I have gained a lot of weight, so I need to build up my cardio and start shedding this weight, but you are inspiring. Keep it up and I hope one day to see you out there. I am an over the road truck driver now and will definitely do what I can to make my way to get back in shape and meet you at the skate park one day lol

      @@Rampsandrigs You do have it tougher than most. My dad was a truck driver and finding time to work out was not high on his list while on the road. Start slowly and don't rush getting into shape. Consistent training is much more important than the time spent on each session, even a 10 minute walk every day is going to be helpful. Having ridden with my dad as a kid, I know how hard it can be to eat well on the road too, and that's as important as the exercise. I know it can be done, so good luck on your journey!

    Fakie is hard try to spin back 180 in

    • @theaverageoldguy
      @theaverageoldguy  6 месяцев назад

      Believe it or not, fakie is easier for me than the 180's. My old body just doesn't like to spin. For my son, the 180 is his go to move, for me it puts me on the ground more times than the fakie does because my feet get hung up. That's something I will be working hard to correct going forward!
